  1. I can understand the disappointment of those on board but you have to be safe. If they'd tried heading to Amsterdam and there'd been an incident I'm sure there would have been even more to complain about. On the QV Baltic trip in August and had to miss Warnemunde due to high winds. Gained a sea day which is no bad thing in my book (especially on a 2 week trip).

  2. Enjoying your blogs PunkiC, thank you. We did the ship tour on QV 2 years ago and it was the best money we've spent. It was 4 hours of a fascinating insight into all that happens to run the ship. All of the crew that spoke to us spoke passionately about their departments. We were given aprons, food, drink and pin badges! We went onto the bridge which was fantastic. The whole tour was brilliant.

  3. Cunard are showing on their Facebook page that 'Sting' sang in the theatre...is he on board for the whole trip? Pretty fab if he is!!

I absolutely love watching the harbour webcam as QM2 passes under- such an amazing sight.

  4. It was most definitely free on the QV in the summer. It was with trepidation that I used the laundry for the first time ever. I'd read on here about the arguments and stresses of doing your washing. However, I was pleasantly surprised that it was a very sociable occasion made quite hilarious by the company I kept in there. It really was quite a fun experience!

  5. We were on this trip too and absolutely loved it! I'm enjoying reading your review as its brining back lots of memories. Having had an inside cabin last year for a week long trip to Norway we decided to splash put on a balcony room - the thought of 2 weeks inside didn't appeal!! Having said that - it may well have been us that you saw snoozing around the ship. Such a relaxing environment meant lots of napping!!

  6. On a recent trip on QV the cruise critic meet had one of the chefs as a guest. Someone asked about special diets and he said that as long as you let them know beforehand then they can accommodate any diet. They don't routinely carry food 'just in case' but they can order special foods with notice.

  7. I don't think they take any notice of the times - we usually turn up for 12/12:30 even with a given time of 3:15. I think there is a natural staggering of arrival as people have various modes of transport brining them to the port.

  8. Also to add... Having been on this voyage (5th with Cunard) we had the most amazing time. Balcony room on deck 4 aft was superb and our room steward very attentive. We had a table for 2 on deck 3 Britannia which was fabulous - our waiter was excellent but special mention goes to Denys, our sommelier who had such a great knowledge of each wine we asked about. He offered suggestions (without being pushy on the pricey bottles!) and was generally a very pleasant person. The guest entertainers were superb and I have to add that despite my initial concerns I found J A to be entertaining and added atmosphere to the trip. The singers and dancers were clearly talented but we found their shows a little bland (apart from 'Celtic Heartbeat' which was excellent).

I took part in the choir (QV vocalists) which I enjoyed a great deal. The performance was really fun)

We loved the itinerary and weren't too bothered about missing Warnemunde as it was the port we were least interested in. The mix of sea days and port days was perfect for our tastes. (I notice that the equivalent trip next year on QE is quite different).

We met some lovely people as always. There was a gentleman introduced at the cocktail party that had sailed for over 750 nights since 1945. He spoke very well in response to his gift.

We weren't aware of any dramas or incidents on board until unfortunately, on the morning we docked there was a code alpha call (twice) for deck 5. Let's hope that the person in question was treated successfully and on the mend. It's always unsettling to think of a fellow passenger becoming unwell.

Once again, we had a wonderful trip. No complaints..other than having to disembark! Two weeks of living in the style in which I'd like to become accustomed to in the real world! Perfect.

(Oh! And we we're allowed to keep our key card!)

  9. Funnily enough, my DH and I are had a conversation on similar lines whilst on this voyage. I commented that how interesting it is that we travelled around the Baltic with Euros and Dollars expecting/hoping that they would be accepted in any country when in reality on Estonia (& Germany which we by-passed) are in the Euro zone. Euros in particular were accepted and prices advertised in that currency no matter where we were. However, in comparison, in the UK we don't accept Euros ( on the whole/ in my experience) at all. Our conversation was just as an observation rather than a judgement on whether the UK should accept Euros.

  10. My husband and I are are on this voyage and some of your suspicions are correct - we have, indeed, not called at Warnemunde. At 8am this morning Captain Philpott announced that due to the stormy weather and lack of shelter in port it would not be safe to dock. Another day at sea is the result....it's a hard life! The ents team put together a programme of activities. Copenhagen as planned tomorrow.

  11. It could have been me writing this post as we too booked a saver fare for an obstructed balcony but been given a regular balcony on deck 4! Happy with the upgrade! Counting down to the holiday!

  12. I wouldn't want people about to travel on deck 1 to be worried after reading these posts. We sailed on QV deck 1 two years ago to the med and dint experience any problems with noise. The videos on a previous post on here show, in my opinion, the natural sounds of a ship and much of such noise would stop if items were moved apart i.e. The glasses.

I agree with the other posts that it's a ship there fore will create some noise. Silence is not possible.

  13. My husband and I are on this cruise and are in our early forties so may bring the average age down a little!! We have only ever sailed with cunard and never felt out of place. We love it! I'm sure you'll have an amazing time. Maybe see you around - we're easy to spot...the other young ones!!

  14. This is a really good question! We are on the QV Baltic trip in August and I've got no idea what to do about cash. We don't normally spend much cash in ports but sometimes having a little for a coffee or small gift. Do people take a little of each currency ever?

  15. I read this discussion the other day & I've been pondering the original comment. I'm a normal person, not wealthy, yet doing ok and enjoy cruising with my husband. We do, however, find it tricky to book too far in advance and so do commit the mortal sin of paying the cheaper fare. Having said that, when I go shopping I enjoy the sales, look out for bargains and love it if I get a get deal. I find it difficult to understand this odd situation where somehow you're in the wrong if you pay less for something i.e. a cruise. I appreciate that some want to book in advance to secure a particular cabin or want to fix holiday dates however, I find it hard to understand how just because you pay the full price makes you more loyal than those who book later. I feel loyal to cunard - can't bring myself to try another line yet I have to wait to book due to logistics of dates etc.

    it's not unfair, just business.

  16. I guess they'll have to source special size bedding for such an unusual size.

It does seem a waste to have the rooms there but not use them for 6 months. Can't wait to see pictures of how they've slotted them in / changed the casino.
