  1. It kind of connects by a kind of short hallway- it is kind of weird when you first enter you come through one door so you think that is your cabin but then you see that there is one cabin in front of you and then another to the left of this very short maybe 8 foot hallway but then you get it- the cabin itself is very large and the pole at the end of the bed is not intrusive. The window is very large and a great view. You can see the Statue of Liberty in the not too far distance and a better view as you are leaving the port. I have a video but unfortunately it is too large to post. i wish i had taken some still photos of the cabin. You will love it.

One more question... Is there a lock on the first door that you go through to the shared hallway/area, so that both cabin doors could be left open to go from one to another while that first door remains locked? Thanks again!

  2. I was forward on the Anthem and we had some rough weather. I don't think the movement of the ship was much worse than expected. However, there were lots of loud, annoying, creaking noises in the cabin which I had never heard on any other ship.

Thanks! This information is quite helpful. I'm happy to hear that the actual movement of the ship wasn't an issue. I'm thinking that we can deal with the creaking, etc.

Great! Thanks for the feedback. I'm excited!

  4. We were in a forward room on Deck 10 and had mixed weather during our cruise. I personally didn't think the motion was any worse in our room than elsewhere on the ship, but my husband disagrees with that. However, one thing we did both experience was the room and everything in it juddering like mad whenever we pulled up to or away from a dock. As the ship docked early in the morning in most ports, a lot of the time that meant that we got woken up unexpectedly early. One time we were in the solarium when pulling away from the dock and noticed it was just as bad there (not something we ever experienced on Independence or Explorer), so it seemed the whole front of the ship was affected by it. We wouldn't book a forward room on Anthem again.

Wow! Thanks for sharing a different perspective. This is helpful in making our decision.

Thanks SparklyNails! That's exactly the thread I was looking for! This is very helpful. Do you know whether the large ocean view actually connects to the superior oceanview? The deck plan indicates that they connect, but I haven't yet seen anyone specifically say that. It wouldn't be a problem for us. We are traveling as a family of 5... 3 adults and 2 children... so connecting rooms work nicely.

  7. We have one booked in March and would love to hear!

Hello... I'm searching for feedback on the Category F stateroom on Anthem, and saw that you posted that you'd booked one of those rooms for a March cruise... how was it? Do you have pictures of the room, and would you book that room category again?

    Thanks!

  8. Maybe people who "like traditional dining and don't want anything else" should stop booking Q Class ships.

EXACTLY! That makes perfect sense. Those of us looking forward to our cruises are reading reviews from folks who chose to sail on a ship that has advertised all its bells and whistles, but who complain about those same bells and whistles. In those reviews, the reviewers don't always mention that they prefer traditional cruising, and those of us reading reviews for feedback would logically think that a person who chose to sail on a Quantum class ship was actually excited about trying out the new concepts the class has to offer, not that the reviewer booked a cruise intending to complain about the aspects that the entire class of ships is known to offer.

  9. It was not the movement that bothered me as much as the shuddering movement / slamming noises when we went through waves. MUCH worse on that ship than the others that I have been on, and of course you feel that more towards the front of the ship.

The weather wasn't the nicest, so you might not have that if the weather is good.

Thanks for clarifying, and I'm happy to hear it was more the resulting noise than the actual movement that was bothersome. Of course, we are hoping for good weather. We will see.

  10. We were exactly left of forward middle, deck 8, large ocean view cabin (8102). It was during the infamous February 6th cruise. My DH is extremely prone to motion sickness and wears 1/2 of a Scopolamine patch. Neither of us got sick, even with the extreme motion from the storm. Don't go into a cruise expecting to be sick. Stay away from folks that are always complaining about the motion. Use the patch and expect the best. It's an amazing ship and we are returning to it in September. Have a wonderful time.

    Cheers, Betty

Good to know. Thanks for the feedback!

  11. Good morning! Booking a cruise over a year ahead has allowed us time to plan and plan some more. That being said, we've been looking into several stateroom options, two of which are forward on Anthem of the Seas. I've read a number of reviews that say, for some reason, folks feel more motion than usual on Anthem. If you've sailed in a forward cabin on Anthem, I'd love to hear your feedback on what the motion was like. Thanks all and have a great day!

  12. I have been to the beautiful island of St. Lucia numerous times, but next year will be the first time with my hubby. I know exactly what I want us to do on our day there. I want to be on a sailboat (or sailing cat), sail to the Pitons and have time to snorkel at the marine park. I would prefer NOT to do a big tour with a million people, and am willing to pay more to have a private or semi-private tour (6-12 people perhaps). 5-6 hours with lunch and drinks would be nice.

Anyone know who offers this kind of tour?

Serenity Vacations and Tours offers customized tours and they have excellent reviews, and are good with responding to email and phone calls.

  13. We originally booked an inside because this was kind of a last minute not in the budget type if trip for us. After our final pay date royal had a "resident" sale and I was able to upgrade to a balcony guarantee for a total of $285 for the four of us. We ended up with an unobstructed balcony that we paid very little for. I realize that we got lucky and I certainly wouldn't count on things happening like that all the time but this time - it definitely worked for us. Also - I would have been fine had we kept our original interior and that is key. Just a thought since you have so long to go, maybe book the interiors but watch the sales [emoji3]

Nice! That's a great deal! Thanks for sharing!

  14. We did connecting OVs on Naviator last year. We saved about $600 off of connecting balconies and still had plenty of space. We did miss the ability to get outside a bit, but with the two rooms at least DH and I could relax/talk/watch TV after the kiddos were asleep. We just made sure to enjoy plenty of outside time when we weren't in the room.

    Nice! Thanks for the feedback.

  15. I was actually looking at San Juan options online today. I think we're going to skip a formal excursion and book parasailing on our own (our daughter is a bit older than your little ones) and then hit up a place called Casa Cortes, a chocolate bar/food art museum. What kid doesn't love chocolate? At the very least, we'll have a treat to enjoy on our walk back to the pier.

Sounds like fun! Yeah, Old San Juan seems like a port you can enjoy without a formal excursion. Enjoy!

  16. Just off the Anthem yesterday and here is my review.

Let me start by saying we had a great cruise. The weather was PERFECT! The seas were calm, the ship was beautiful and being on a cruise for almost two weeks was heavenly! I would not hesitate to sail on Anthem again.

We had a balcony stateroom on deck 11 aft. We loved our room and loved, loved, loved our stateroom attendant Selwin!! Plenty of storage in the room and 4 suitcases fit nicely under the bed. Loved the glass door on the shower. Temperature was easily controlled and our room was always comfortable. We made great use of the balcony and loved every minute.

The food was for lack of a better word "weird". We had dynamic dining and it was fine but next time I would do classic. We never saw an assistant waiter for the first four nights. We ordered drinks 3 times at each dinner and never saw the drinks. Not kidding here. It was awful. Our food in the 4 included dining rooms was never "hot". We learned to be happy with warm. We ate in Grand 4 times and the food was very good. We ate in Chic twice and it was really bad All four of us were served ice cold food. When we were finished with our appetizers we sat for 35 minutes with the empty plates in front of us. The second night at Chic we never ate dinner. We left and went to the Windjammer and had a great dinner. Later that night we went to guest services to let them know about our dinner experiences the past four nights and they had the person that runs Chic and the person that oversees all four dining rooms come and talk to us. We were told that the waiter was concentrating on his "classic dining tables" and we basically got lost in the shuffle. We were not happy about this but they said it would be rectified. All of our dinner service and meals were excellent after this, but still served warm, not hot. They also sent a bottle of champagne to our cabin.

We also ate at Jaimie's Italian twice and it we really good. They give you a 25% discount after the first visit. Highly recommend the plank, rice balls & lamb chops!

We ate at Chops and it wAs ok. I actually enjoyed my filet in the Grand better.

We loved the windjammer. We ate breakfast and lunch there most days and they had great offerings that were always good. I am hooked on the crepes that they make for you!

Loved the roast beef sandwiches in two70. Salads were good too. Did not enjoy breakfast there.

We had coffee and pastries delivered to our cabin each morning to enjoy on the balcony. Coffee was very good as were the pastries. They call us right before they deliver it.

We were not happy with the shows. We saw We WILL Rock You, Spectre Cabaret and the Gift. The music from WWRY was ok but the play itself is stupid. The other two were just plain horrible. Did not like the last show either... Dan Bennet, comedian/juggler. Did not find him entertaining at all. There was a comedian at the welcome aboard show and he was funny. I forget his name but we also went to his late night show and enjoyed him very much. We were disappointed that there were not more comedians on a 12 night cruise.

Our itinerary was western Caribbean. Labadee was a beautiful beach day. In Costa Maya we went to Maya Chan (booked on our own) and had a wonderful day on the beach! We loved the Mexican lunch and being served drinks in the ocean. I would return here anytime I find myself in Costa Maya. In Faulmouth we just shopped by the pier and had lunch at Mararitaville. We got off for about a half hour in Roatan by the shops near the ship. You are greeted with a big sign that tells you how dangerous it is there. Not for me. Back on the ship for a relaxing day by the pool we went. In Cozumel we went for an all inclusive beach day to occidental grand. I would not go back.

Went to the spa twice for massages and they were the best spa experiences I've ever had on a ship. The massages were wonderful and there was no sales pitch at all! I loved both of them. After I had the first one they sent a $50 gift card to my cabin which is why I booked the second one. Awesome!

We played in the casino and immediately became VIP on the second night. We had free drinks for the rest of the cruise! ... And they were great drinks!! This was a welcomed perk as the drinks were $12.48 each. Over the top expensive IMO! My husband was so happy he never purchased an alcohol package because it would have been a waste! We had a great time in the casino topped off by us getting a call in our room the last night from Shiley Wong, casino host saying "You Hoo! Get down to the casino and claim the free cruise that you just won"!!! What a surprise and what more perfect way to end our cruise!!!

While on board we went to the Next Cruise desk and booked a cruise for our family next March on the Allure! We are so excited. We only have 30 days to book the free cruise that we won and only have a few to choose from. We are pretty sure we are going to pick a 7 day eastern Caribbean sailing on the oasis on 4/30.

These boards have often debated about the sharing of the royal replenish package (or any drink package for that matter) and I just want to mention that I had the Royal replenish package and every time I ordered fresh squeezed oj whether in the dining room or windjammer they always brought one for my husband too. We never asked for it, each time we told them we only have one package and every time they said they know that and to just enjoy.

It's really crazy to blast someone that asks about sharing when I can tell you first hand it was encouraged onboard by the servers.

Tips: Another sore subject around here... On the 4th day we removed the auto tipping due to the poor and non existent service. We tipped everyone with cash and ended up spending much more than we would have had we left the auto tips in place. There was no way I was tipping an assistant waiter when we never even saw an assistant waiter. Nor were we tipping a waiter that never even brought our food at all. On that note the service in the windjammer was excellent and we tipped well every time we went there. Our cabin steward was also a very happy camper. He was so appreciative too.

Debarkation in Bayonne was by far the easiest we've ever experienced.

I'm sad that our vacation is over but have 2 more cruises to look forward to!!

Any questions feel free to ask! Thanks for reading my review!

Nice! Thanks for sharing your experience, and congratulations on the free cruise! We are looking forward to a 12-day on Anthem next year!

  17. Just curious to see if you've found anything since you posted this. I'm looking for something similar - local flair, local food, maybe some good music/dancing. Our daughter will be 9, and she is very interested in cooking so I was hoping to be able to find something that would interest her.

Haven't received much feedback on this question on these boards, but I've been researching excursions, and see some foodie options on viator.com. We haven't yet decided to reserve any of those, but I have seen a number of options there.

  18. Happy Sunday everyone! Already booked on Anthem to sail in 2017, and we are presently booked for two obstructed view balcony staterooms on Deck 6. However, as we have quite a bit of waiting before setting sail, and I've been researching more and more, we are now considering two connected interior staterooms on Deck 11 as we will be sailing out in pretty cold weather, and we plan to use Adventure Ocean each day for our 6-year-old and 1-year-old. I generally like having a balcony stateroom, but I'm thinking that we will be up and about on this great ship, that it may be worth saving a bit and going for the inside room, especially since they've designed these connecting ones for families. Have any of you with little ones experienced the connected interior staterooms, and if so, how comfortable was it? Thanks in advance!
