  1. I would like to use my first post here at CC to thank you for all the information you have given me before my first cruise ever(y) leaving Barcelona 8th of july and really looking forward to a new experience

We're getting on in Rome on July 12 so we'll be sharing the ship for a few days.

Annoying that the Royal app does not have any of the Rome departures on it.

Thanks Norwich Cruiser for the info. Planning to go to 150 Central Park for our celebration dinner, but in general the dinners are way too expensive to pay for 6 people. May try Chops for lunch...

  2. These might be outdated now since she has added shows and entertainment since the maiden voyage, but you can look at these:

    My personal Tips:

    1. Quick and easy lunch? Head to deck 8 for Park Cafe, great food and not as busy as Windjammer
    2. Wear a bathing suit on board... Flowrider is open and you can ride it with a short line.
    3. Get to the port early.... Although it is very efficient to get on the ship, (pier staff is fantastic) that counts as Day 1, so make the most of it.
    4. Plant Z... Great experience for Adults and kids.. But it can have a 2 hour line, I did it the first day with no wait. Just make sure that you have closed toed shoes.
    5. Drink Package? Worth it in my opinion... I drink a lot of Tito's and Cranberry + Crown Royal so it payed for itself. I have also found if you ask for receipt (if you have a drink package) I get better bar service because I add an extra tip!
    6. Enjoy your cruise... Don't stress because you won't enjoy it.
    7. I brought Euros to spend onshore, but found most places preferred credit cards, i have the RCCL CC and I avoided Foreign Transaction fees.
    8. She is a big ship with a lot to see and do... Make sure to leave yourself time to explore! I love getting up early (before the crowds) and roam the ship or pulling into a port with a cup of coffee.
    9. Book your shows... That is a must! I always do the comedy show!
    10. Have fun and take a lot of pictures!

Thanks for the info. Do you recall any dining packages being offered?

  3. Similar question: We are a family of 6 in port for the day with an English tour scheduled at Sagrada Familia at 2:15. We were planning to have a relaxing stroll around the Gothic center, grab some lunch, then taxi over to Sagrada at 2. After, we would taxi back to the port. Think we'll be able to grab a taxi for 6 or do we need to split up?

  4. I have been following a number of Symphony threads and people are commenting on how empty the specialty restaurants are. Playmakers is the only exception. Cruise is exorbitantly priced already, dining even more so. I would assume filling specialty restaurants is a big money maker for them, but perhaps I am wrong.

We had a discount dining plan on the Radiance 2 years ago and loved the specialty restaurants. On our Symphony trip in July, for about $50/person at most of the venues, I may try wonderland or 150 Central Park but that's it.

  5. Who knows what they're going to do but this seems probable. WJ with floor to ceiling windows. Outdoor seating on Radiance class. That's prime real estate.

Most of the MDR sits empty for quite a few hours each day.

WJ gets converted to specialty restaurants. One/two floors of MDR becomes buffet. Room for more staterooms? This isn't necessarily what I think is best...but I can imagine the planners in Miami see $$$ in front of their eyes.

Isn't this what dynamic dining was all about (not buffets but non-traditional)? Didn't this fail because of people wanting traditional dining? Why do we think this will work now?

  6. We have three people in each room, the two younger kids are on the couch in each room. There are two closets and two bathrooms in each room which works out perfect. We would have booked the two bedroom loft suite if it were available. The suite amenities on the symphony are well worth the cost for us.

The hibachi was good but if your trying to cut costs may not be worth it but the food and entertainment was good. They also brought a slice of birthday cake for my daughter. We were the only ones on the hibachi side. There are several packages but I don't know the prices

    Thank you!

  7. Bringing my extended family on the Symphony in July. Thanks for having us on your tour!!

Was curious how you situated everyone in the 2 Crown loft suites? We ended up booking 3 balcony rooms since it was much cheaper and had more bedding, but we really will miss the suite amenities...

ETA: Also, what did you think of the Hibachi? $50/person seems like a pretty steep upcharge. Any specialty restaurant packages on board?

  8.

Anyway, to each his own, but as you posted, the WJ at 8pm is not loud and crazy like it can be during breakfast/lunch. It's quite peaceful and relaxing. Definitely looking forward to seeing what the WJ is like on Radiance in Alaska as the ship and locale are definitely not what I'm used to after 7 cruises on Voyager, Freedom, and Oasis class in the Caribbean).

We loved the Radiance WJ in Alaska. My son's favorite. We went to the MDR once on the cruise and it wasn't for us. We also really enjoyed Giovanni's and Samba Grill. Going on the Symphony in July and I think it's unlikely we will step foot in the MDR....
