  1. Kaisatsu-can you please help us with some Oslo questions?

We will be staying at the Clarion Hotel Royal Christiania in late August and early September before departing on a cruise. What can you tell us about the neighborhood?

Are there any restaurants in the vicinity that you like?

I am disabled and walk with a cane. Are there ramps in most places so i won't have to negotiate stairs or is that uncommon in Oslo?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give us.

  2. After three phone calls (one last week-two today) and long holds as the Captain's Club rep looked into the problem, we got our points. We are now Elites. This was important because it gives us Diamond status on Royal Carib. and we are doing 2 b2b cruises with them in September.

    Happy days are here again.....

  3. While I received Captains Club credit for our early March cruise, we have not yet gotten our bonus points. I called and was told they would eventually be posted to my account. It got me wondering, has anyone received there bonus points yet?

  4. We just came off the Connie and noticed we couldn't lock our door even from the inside. It wasn't a big deal and we didn't even tell the steward about it. It would be annoying if the door mover in rough seas, but we were in calm waters. I once got locked out on the balcony when a loose handle slipped from the open to the closed position.

Ours locked fine from the inside.

  5. Ship: Constellation

    CABIN: 1116

    Deck 11

    Class: Aqua Spa

    Bed Location: Near Bathroom

    Quiet: Yes

Balcony View-excellent-sticks out farther any of the other Aqua cabins on the floor

    No Wind of Soot Problems

Problem for all Aqua spa cabins on 11: the sliding glass door to the verandah cannot be locked from the outside. So if you are sitting out there in any sort of swell the door will slide open or closed, repeatedly, on its own.

  6. We just got back from a lovely cruise on the Connie in Aqua class on 11. But the only thing that was really difficult is sitting out on the verandah. Yes they hang out nicely. Yes they get lots of sun. But don't try sitting out there in anything but calms seas. Every time I was out there with any sort of swells causing the cabin to move, the sliding glass doors would slide open or slide shut repeatedly. They could not be locked open or closed. All day long you could hear the doors of other cabins repeatedly sliding open and closed. I finally wedged my cane between the slider and the frame to hold it closed. They should have put in a locking mechanism from the outside (as there is from the inside.) Not a super big deal but annoying.

  7. As a professional wine judge (honest--see http://winejudging.com/bios/bob_foster.htm) let me comment that while box wines were originally mediocre at best, in recent years there has been a big jump in quality. The wines from Target and a brand called Black Box have been winning gold medals when judged blind against other U S wines at major competitions. Finally the plastic inner bag is not impervious to air. After a few months there will be air penetratrion.

  8. On one cruise my wife got an infection from a cut on her foot. On another cruise she got noro. We found the medical staff to be quite good, but as already noted, expensive.

Fortunately our health insurance reimburses us for care when none of their facilities are available.
