  1. I did a search for this topic and came up empty, sorry if I missed something.

The price of massages on the spa on the ship are just so crazy. We will be spending about 36 hours so thought it might be a good opportunity to find something not on the ship. Does anyone have recommendations of something near Royal Navy Dockyard?

Yes, Chase or any other travel agent can book for you. You will need to provide them with your Latitudes number, which you will receive in your welcome kit after your 1st cruise. It was seven years between my 1st cruise and my second cruise; and by providing my Latitude # on the reservations; the offers all showed up. NCL is pretty good about making sure they get your Latitudes account and rewards straight.

    Thanks!

Since you are not a Latitude member as of yet, this being your 1st cruise, I don't think you qualify for Latitudes Insider Cruise bonus points. So, if that is true it's really easy to calculate your points to be expected after this cruise. You get one point for every night on the cruise and one additional point if you booked a suite or Haven class room. This are automatic from NCL regardless of who or where you booked, so booking through Chase will not hamper your ability to collect points.

The points are awarded at the end of the cruise; so the tier benefits are available for your next cruise. NCL usually sends out a welcome kit with additional information a few weeks after the conclusion of your cruise. At least they used to... since I've been a Latitude member for several years I can't guarantee the welcome kit anymore.

Thanks! So then future cruises with NCL I will need to look out for these offers? Will Chase be able to book for me with them? I assume its no different than any travel agent

We have been on the Getaway, Breakaway, Escape and Bliss.  Depends on what you like to do.  We hang out at bars/restaurants on the  Waterfront and District Brewhouse (Escape and Bliss) in the evenings so we like to book cabins on Deck 8 if possible.  When we sailed on the Getaway we had a high Aft facing balcony at first, we could not sleep due to be under Spice H20.   We got moved down to a lower deck and it was our favorite stateroom ever!  If we are cruising on Breakaway Class ships, we tend to book decks 8, 9 and 10 now...

My wife and I typically sit listening to the live music for hours every night while playing Scrabble (and yes we are in our 30s not 70s haha). Our room is not something we care about because we want to spend as little time as possible in our room, so we typically go for the cheapest room. The stairs going up for the lower decks help us get some exercise to counteract all the eating too.

It's true.  MSC managed to sail for months this Summer and Fall without a problem.  Part of the issue is that in other places like Europe and Asia they are able to do cruises to nowhere whereas here we cannot.

I expect a lot of cruises to private islands in the future. I wouldnt be surprised if cruise lines add multiple islands in the future.

It's just not something that we have control over.  The virus is in control.  The rules and restrictions are to hopefully slow it down until the vaccine or whatever can remove it as a threat.  So the cruise lines wanting the restrictions lifted, what then?  They're going to go cruising around with covid passengers?   No good answer to make the cruise lines well again.  Hopefully, some can wait it out until we're cured.

You know there is an in between the two right? Its not "no sailing allowed" or "everybody come get COVID on our ships!"

If the cruise industry wanted to reopen at 50% capacity, kept everything socially distant, etc it would be no different than going to a hotel or other facility on land.

As somebody here pushed me to check AARP out again, thought I would make a couple of observations.

First, about the Carnival gift cards.  They are located in the "members only" section, which I presume means you have to be an AARP member to buy them.  They are offered at a ten percent discount, and you don't need any points to get the discount.  The website says you are limited to five transactions a month.

One other interesting note.  Interesting to me, anyways.   The AARP website "members only" section is offering gift cards to numerous grocery stores, among them Albertsons, Safeway, Kroger, Ralphs, Shaws, and Food4Less.   The gift cards are in various denominations, and the discount is 12 %.   I bought one of these for Albertsons.  It came as an ecert in three minutes to my email.   I printed it and took it shopping, and the cashier knew what to do with  it so it was eazy peazy to redeem.  Since we shop a lot at Albertson's, this is an absolute no brainer.   I am trying to decide whether to stock up on these since I have no idea if these are a permanent AARP feature or what.

I am not as familiar with those grocery stores but just a thought about what works near me.

ShopRite and Stop N Shop/Giant will let you use their store gift cards to buy other gift cards (some cashiers will say no, but in general it will work). SNS/Giant offer 1% back toward grocery purchases and sometimes offer specials of up to 4% back. So if you grocery works the same, you could buy a gift card at 12% off, buy a Carnival gift card there with it, and then get grocery rewards, and save even more.

I used the HUB app in September 2018 and when I activated it again for my cruise September 2021 with the same phone I get a message that the HUB app is incompatible with my phone. Anybody else have that happen to them?

The current version in Google Play says it requires Android 7.0 or great. Perhaps you have a lower version of your phone software, like Android 6.0, and in the year in the 3 years between the upped the minimum version. I know most apps used to be 4.0 or higher but have been slowly phasing those out. The more version of software they need to support the more time it takes to make updates

    Cards haven't returned yet.

So for those of you who've used the gift cards and had your cruise cancelled because of COVID, did they send you a new gift card for any of the refundable items? I know that's usually the way it goes, but wasn't sure if anything changed with this cancellation process.

We lost our Jan. 4 cruise and will be opting to re-book + OBC. But we used gift cards for FTTF and Cruise Cash. Since FTTF is refundable, I'm assuming it'll come in the form of a new gift card. Our PVP said we have to officially choose one of the options first (refund or re-book) to trigger the process.

Cruise Cash is typically non-refundable, but I'm hoping they're refunding it given the circumstances. Anyone have any experience there? I didn't think to ask our PVP about it.

Edited to add: I just reread the email response from our PVP a week ago and he did mention that the Cruise Cash would be refunded along with the FTTF. I hope he's right about that.

Why not just put up a gift card against your OBC? Then you dont have to worry about buying the cruise cash

    Hmmm....not to sure about that.

I don't see one reason why prices should go down.  Carnival isn't a "non-profit".  If anything, I expect a shift in their target market towards those who have more disposable income and are willing to spend it.

They (like just about every business) are suffering huge losses....and putting 4 adults in an inside cabin etc just won't help their bottom line.

OP is looking for 2022 and beyond...so really, not much at risk since final payment is far far far away.

Because Carnival is a for profit business I can see lots of reasons prices would go down. If they are at 20% capacity, they would rather get another 60% capacity than to run the ship mostly empty. They might make less per person but they will cover their costs.

They are bleeding cash and have been for almost a year, lowering prices will bring in cash now. They need a way to get to 2022, and if lowering prices creates more early bookings, they would do it.

  11. My wife and I typically just go for the cheapest state room. We have been below the theater before and we are deep sleepers so the noise does not really both us, so for the first time we are not selecting our own state room. The travel agent at Chase assured me I wont be put into a top/bottom bunk (on the Magic), but it makes me a bit nervous. Is there a way I can see on my reservation that this is correct? I am booking using points so I am stuck using their travel agent, but I never have any confidence in what they say. I tried mocking up a reservation on their website using both Upper/Lower or regular interior and then selecting guaranteed cabin, and the pricing and confirmation pages look identical.

Also on previous cruises I have been able to select king size bed, but with the redesigned site I see no option for that. Am I missing it or is it not an option because I did not select my state room?

  12. Unless you need the cash right now, just book it.

If prices drop call them up and get a price adjustment. If prices go up you saved money.

There is a zero chance of losing by booking now unless you need the cash for something else and wind up paying interest. I always book based on CC rewards thanks to Chase Ultimate Rewards, so there is zero harm in my booking early.

Fine print says “All additional FunPoints earned will appear on your statement 6-8 weeks after the end of the promotion.”

I usually use AMEX and Chase credit cards because they offer the best rewards. They also say 6-8 weeks but everything posts the day my statement closes. I guess Barclays uses all that time

  14. I don't see anyone else having written about this, but on my Carnival CC I had an offer that for the first $1,000 of purchases in November, December and January, I would get an extra 10 Funpoints per dollar. So in essence if I spent $1,000 I will get 11,000 Funpoints which I can use for $110, an 11% return which is crazy. Obviously this is even more if you have over 100,000 points and get $1,500 for redeeming the 100,000.

Did anyone else take advantage of this? How long did it take for the bonus points to hit? My statement closed yesterday and still have not gotten the bonus points.
