  1. It wasn't an agency I contacted but a company that runs holidays (including cruises) to wherever you want to go and will supply a carer for the duration of that holiday (at huge cost apparently). I have no idea how that company operates at all. I don't want to employ someone, I just want to have someone to come with me for the duration of the cruise. I will do some more investigation myself but I just thought that this forum might be a good place to ask.

Suggestions would likely depend upon what type of care you need.

Is it mostly mobility, or would it be more intensive such as helpt with eating or even personal hygiene.

That would affect the type/qualifications for anyone you would be considering.

Some years ago, there was a thread here on CC with some agencies and other suggestions, but I don't know if it was USA-based only.

Does there happen to be a nursing school (or medical school) nearby?  Someone there might want to earn some extra money while having a bit of a trip (probably not quite a "vacation", or just a "working vacation", but still... new places to see, etc.).

Or do you not need someone with those medical qualifications?

£19,000 seems a bit (more than a "bit"!) high 😱  for a cruise costing about £2,500, which suggests that this is *not* an around the world cruise taking 3 months or more!

Thanks for the reply, the cruise is for 35 nights so it's quite long but quite reasonably priced for the length of it in my opinion. I need help washing, dressing and toileting and depending on the terrain on the places we go, some help getting around in my wheelchair. I honestly nearly fell out my wheelchair when they quoted that amount 🤣. I will check to see if there is a nursing or medical school nearby. I'm quite happy to pay for the carer's cruise.

  3. I know that this may well be a long shot but I thought I'd give it a try just in case. I am a 48 year old man living in the UK, I use a wheelchair full time. I have found a cruise that I would like to go on but I need a carer to come with me on the cruise to assist me. I was wondering if anyone on this board happened to know of any UK based companies that would be able to help me? I did find one company and when I enquired about this, I was quoted £19,000 plus the cost of the cruise for a carer which is far too much money considering the cruise itself only costs about £2,500. I know of one company called Limitless Travel that does this sort of thing but you can only go on any of the cruises that they offer whereas I would like to be able to have complete control over which cruise line/ship/destination I book.

    Thank you.

    Owen Hamilton.

  4. Does anyone else think it's gone a bit quiet lately with regards to updates on Queen Anne? I'd really like to see more information coming out, also some pictures of the build process would be great to see.

Second time in as many weeks Queen Victoria has gone to the rescue.   At the end of April, whilst on the way to Belfast for refit, she came to the aid of the P&O Ferries ship European Causeway, which suffered temporary engine failure.

It's a good job she did as that could have ended up with mass fatalities if it had been something worse than a temporary engine failure.

Isn't the captain putting the ship, the crew and even the future of cruise industry in danger by coming to rescue a ship which could be anyone. What if they are terrorists and it is some kind of trap? That is a genuine question to which I would like a response not a trolling post.

So are you saying that the captain of the RMS Carpathia should have ignored the distress signal from the Titanic in case it was a trap?

  7. I just got an email from Cunard talking about the Wellness Suite on the Queen Anne, did anyone else get this email yet?

Eyeing up the QM2 World Cruise and noticed that it starts as the Queen Anne maiden voyage ends (11th January). Queen Victoria will also be there, too.

Will be exciting to see the two queens with their new sister so quickly!

I'd rather see all four Queens together, not just three of them.

Less than 24 hours to go for Queen Anne booking opening for those of us World Club folk who have registered.

    I'm quite excited. Are you?

If I do book a cruise on Queen Anne it won't be until 2024 for a cruise in 2025 to commemorate my 50th birthday.

I am also interested in when the QA will be in NYC, if even just to go get a photo.  I thought it looked like it would be based on the photo used on the US website.  Also curious as to why they use the prefix "H" for the voyage numbers.

Surely that is false advertising, showing New York when the voyage actually finishes in Fort Lauderdale.

What do people think of the Queen Anne prices/itinerary. A little bit out of my budget - £1200pp for the maiden... Eek!

They are more expensive than I expected to be honest. Its been about 5 years since my last cruise and the prices do seem to have risen a lot, I guess that's mostly due to Covid but I thought that maybe as its a new ship they would offer some good deals so they can guarantee a sell out.

  12. Interesting to see that the maiden voyage is in the first week of January in 2024, I guess that means she'll arrive in Southampton (I assume) around Christmas time 2023 for the naming ceremony. I live close to Southampton so if the weather is not too bad I might go and see her arrive for the first time.

Does the link I provided work any better? I'm wondering if you are looking at Google Earth rather than Google Maps. The image I'm seeing is entirely different in Google Earth (from 2014).

Sorry for the late reply, the link made no difference, it's definitely Google Maps that I'm using. Doesn't really matter, thanks anyway.

Type Castellammare into Google maps and you should be able to see the yard right at the south end of the bay

Thanks, I did that when initially searching and have just done it again and the image of a ship under construction that comes up for me doesn't look anything like the image posted in this thread for some reason.

The Queen’s Room spiral staircase, the other void from the casino down to the Golden Lion, the forward lifts and stairs, and the spa pool. And at the aft end, what looks like the midships stairs. I was trying to work out from the video where the join would be.

I tried looking for this image on Google Maps but couldn't find it, can anyone give me the coordinates that I can copy and paste into Google Maps please?

    Thank you.

  17. After a bit of searching I found the deck plans (assuming they are genuine). I was hoping that a new ship would offer more accessible staterooms but there seems to be even less than on any other ship I've seen (just talking about inside cabins). I guess I'll have to book really early if I want to go on her.
