  1. Hello, I live in the UK and have just booked a cruise from Southampton to Cape Liberty on the Anthem Of The Seas then staying for 3 nights in a hotel in Manhattan then flying home from JFK. I am in a wheelchair and asked for a quote from the company I booked the cruise with (Opodo) for a wheelchair accessible transfer from the port to the hotel and then from the hotel to JFK. The company quoted me £331 per person for myself and my carer which is way too expensive for what is quite a short journey, so I then asked for a quote for just the part from the port to the hotel as I have found a taxi company in Manhattan that only takes people in wheelchairs and charges regular rates so we can use them to take us from the hotel to the airport at the end of our holiday but they only operate in New York State and the quote given was £300 for an even shorter journey so my question is does anyone know if there are wheelchair accessible taxis at Cape Liberty or will I need to book one from somewhere and if so does anyone have any recommendations on which company to use, thanks.

  3. I got a rough quote from Yellow Taxis of Houston who wanted $116 to transport me and my carer from the port to the airport, the official Princess excursion that includes transport from the port, entry to the Space Center and then transport to the airport afterwards costs $99.

  4. Please can someone tell me what my rights are as a disabled traveller as regards wheelchair accessible transport on shore excursions. I am booked on a cruise on Emerald Princess from Southampton to Houston, departing on October 25th 2014 and flying home from Houston on the 11th November 2014, calling at Le Havre, Vigo, Lisbon, Ponta Delgado, Bermuda and Fort Lauderdale and finishing in Houston. There are various excursions in each of the ports on the cruise but the only one I am really interested in doing is an excursion to the Space Center in Houston which once done takes us to George Bush Intercontinental Airport for the flight home. There are 3 other excursions for this port, one is the same as the above but going to Hobby Airport, and two city tours en route to each of the two Airports, only one of these city tours provides transport for people in wheelchairs which seems extremely discriminatory to me. I am in contact with Princess here in the UK who have said that all the excursions should be listed on the cruise personalizer by 120 days before departure (as of this post it is 127 days before departure) and that after that date they will speak to Princess in the US to see if there is anything that can be done but surely each excursion should have the provision for people in wheelchairs seeing as the majority of cruise passengers are elderly and more likely to be in a wheelchair.

  5. I think I may have misled you here. If your special needs is mobility the taxi idea might not be very good. In Fort Lauderdale, Princess runs a number of disembarkation tours. Passengers normally book these once on board. My understanding is that passengers that are staying onboard may also book some of these tours. The bus will drop departing passengers off at the airport and then return to the ship. You would need to book one that goes to Fort Lauderdale airport, not Miami. These may also be available on line at some point once Princess sets up the tour pricing and schedules for the 2014/2015 Caribbean season.

Well I guess I misled everybody in my posts, I am from the UK and am doing the whole cruise from Southampton to Houston then flying back home from Houston. Anyway I have contacted Princess here in the UK and they tell me that all the excursions will be available to book 120 days before departure.

  6. Can someone tell me how long before the sailing date the full Excursions List should be on my Cruise Personalizer? I'm booked on the October 25th sailing on Emerald Princess and currently the last two ports of call (Fort Lauderdale & Houston) don't have any excursions listed. I realise sailing date is still a long way away yet but I'm just interested to know how long before sailing they usually are fully listed as I've never sailed with Princess before and I'd like to book them as soon as they are available to guarantee a space as I have Special Needs.

    Thank you.

  7. Thanks, I have joined the roll call already, as I said in my post, the only excursion we are doing is to Johnson Space Center in Houston as that is really the only one we are interesting in doing and also to reduce costs as much as possible.

  8. I've never cruised with Princess before and am booked on the October 25th cruise from Southampton to Houston. The only excursion I have planned is to the Johnson Space Center before going to the airport to come home. My question (which might sound obvious but as I've never cruised with Princess before thought I'd ask anyway) is when the ship docks in Fort Lauderdale, do Princess provide some sort of shuttle bus to take passengers from the port to somewhere in the city and if so does anyone know where this is so I can look it up and see what there is to see nearby as I don't really want to spend all day on the ship.

    Thanks.
