We are about to book our flights and it will have us landing in FtL at about 6pm Thurs prior to our cruise on the Saturday.
At this stage our plan is a quick change at the hotel, then drinks and food on the street Thurs night!
We live close to a place where they have water ways etc around over priced houses with their expensive boats!
Would we be missing much by only staying 2 nights in Ftl pre cruise?
We are planning on not leaving to the ship till about 2pm Sat to avoid the queues!
BTW, doing 2 nights South Beach post cruise!
-
Based on previous threads about burgers!
DUCK! :-)
-
Cant believe we have already spent 1200 Aussie dollars on booze for an 8 night cruise!
None will pass our lips till April 2017!! :-(
-
How do you keep track when you have Cheers?
Do you get a card?
Or do you just fall over when you have reached your limit! :-)
-
When we did Hawaii with NCL we didnt tip for a single drink!
We just presumed the prepaid covered all this - didnt see anybody else tipping either!
-
If you purchase Cheers, you can get 15 alcoholic drinks per day and unlimited non-alcoholic drinks (almost everything non-alcoholic including water).
Thanks E&B :-)
-
Only alcohol drinks count for your 15.
Seems like the more I read the more I get confused! :-)
Read somewhere that somebody includes their bottles of water in the Cheers count!
-
You can prepurchase 12 packs of water to be in your stateroom. Yes and juice/milk at breakfast. If you do have cheers it is all covered.
So tea coffee water juice & milk are all free at breakfast?
With you saying its all covered with Cheers, not sure if you meant having the above will come off your daily quota!
-
First time on a Carnival cruise next year, doing the Eastern Caribbean on the Conquest.
Do you have free bottled water in your room?
I go through about 2-3 litres a day.
Can you bring on bottled water?
If non of the above, I presume you would have to get it through the Cheers program!
What drinks are free in the buffets?
Surely water, tea & coffee is available there free?
-
Wouldnt it be better just arriving at about 1 or 2 o'clock?
Would rather sit in a bar somewhere nice than line up with the masses! :-)
-
Yep, agreed that is one great day trip for anyone with a day in St Maarten.
Yes, one of the main reasons we are going! :-)
-
Spotted a few musicians on this average Youtube:
Looks a lively place! :-)

We are going in April 2017 and can't really see the point of it!
We are not in a race and the ship wont leave till we are all onboard! :-)
Just a nice way of skimmimg 60 bucks off us!
-
We are into bars, restaurants and free entertainment(bands) at night time.
Think the Clevelander would be a bit too full on by the sounds of it, though the Essex at the back sounds a little tamer! :-)
Is there a spot like this in Fort Lauderdale? Would that be Las Olas?
-
Thanks for the tips - sounds like a lively spot! :-)
-
I know somebody that stayed at the above hotel.
Must say they are very frugal! :-)
Would this be one of the best spots to stay in South Beach - like being next to all the action?
The reviews of this place aren't so great but would consider some place better nearby if this is a good spot.
-
We are cruising first week in April.
Looking from Australia it seems that booking a hotel nearer the time is so much cheaper.
Hopefully doing sun/mon in South Beach we could get something a little decent!
-
Thanks for the info - we will do Ft L first & South Beach after the cruise! :-)
Maybe South Beach hotels might be cheaper sun/mon?
-
So we are cruising out of Fort Lauderdale on a Saturday & return on a Sunday.
We want to stay 2 nights pre cruise & 2 nights post cruise.
We like the sound of Fort Lauderdale, but would anybody recommend which of the 2 places to stay, before or after?
We would be staying in South Beach, so would a thurs/fri night there be a must do, compared with a sun/mon night there?
Or would that be the worst time to be there? :-) and would Fort Lauderdale be a better place to be on a thurs/fri night?
We are not bothered about the travel to the port from Miami.
We are in our 50's BUT young! :-)
-
Glad this was bumped up - saves me asking a ton of questions! :-)
-
No. Downtown to downtown best case scenario is one hour. Traffic is so horrific between the two cities I've had it take three hours. That isn't uncommon.
Gee...well Google got it wrong! :-)
Would the traffic be bad on a Saturday morning from Miami at 11am?
-
The water taxi looks an interesting way of seeing the place.
As you know its always hard to get a grasp of a place you have never been to, but once you been it all falls into place.
I suppose the biggest nark when booking holidays is staying somewhere too long and somewhere else not log enough.
Because we are travelling from Western Australia, its unlikely we will be heading that way too many times.
South beach looks good and also a little pricey.
Like your blog & links, and will be following you for a while :-)
With boarding the cruise day, we arent too fussed if we are in Ft Lauderdale of Miami, because the latter is only 30 minutes away...isnt it? :-)
I suppose if our incoming flights are all equal we would be wondering which of the 2 places would be best to spend a Thurs/Fri night?
-
Water Taxi to where? :-)
Now wondering if we should do Thur/Fri night in Ft Lauderdale, pre cruise, followed by Sun/Mon night in Miami post cruise!
Or would it be better doing them in reverse? Miami pre cruise?
We are juggling with flight times at the moment and are looking at all options.
-
We will be going at the start of April next year, so think we will make a move in staying at one of those hotels, do a trip to Miami & probably do the Everglades.
A drive to Key West was an option till we realised it was a 4 hour drive, so will be giving that a miss :-(

When people have been quoting what they had with Cheers, eg. Bottled Water, Diet Coke.....wouldn't they be free anyway? or only if you have Cheers?
