  1. "As mentioned previously, perhaps excursions should not be available for booking so far in advance. After all, do we really need to make excursion decisions that far in advance? IF Regent could give us accurate information 120/90 days prior to the cruise, how would that hurt us? IMO, showing us what was offered in the past is good - even if it changes somewhat due to tour operators, contracts, etc. "

I think anyone who wanted to arrange a private tour or other option would potentially be hurt. From past experience in many ports 90 days out would be insufficient time to coordinate tour guides on your own.

Regent is really dropping the ball on this issue right now and causing undue frustration and stress for customers.

  2. Like GrJBerkshire I had always received a pdf of excursions to review prior to the booking window opening. I recently asked a Regent rep for one for an upcoming cruise and was told that none was available and I could look online. Thank you, I know I can look online, but it's much easier to discuss options with your travel companion if you have a paper copy in front of you. Not at all helpful for anyone wanting to plan ahead. Call it what you will it's definitely a change in the process and IMO an unwelcome one.

  3. TC,

mom0f3 wrote "and the hopes that starting in Buenos Aires will make a code red less likely were deciding factors."

I'm assuming she had a reason to think it would be less likely starting there and was curious as to why. She didn't say anything about time of year as typically any SA cruise is November to May.

  4. Luggage isn't an issue, I can pack for two weeks in a carry on! My husband and I normally plan our own land trips. When you need to lug your luggage, you learn how to pack very light and every piece of clothing matches! (Actually my luggage is smaller than his.) Thanks for the quick responses.

Two weeks in a carry on! I'm impressed. We need you to be so kind as to share some tips. That would make a very helpful sticky.

  5. I'd second the recommendation of Osteria San Marco and also suggest Antica dolo, had a great lunch there not many tourists.

Also had a tour with bestveniceguides.it/en/guida/patrizia-bracceschi/. She was very good and will customize according to what you'd like to see.

  6. You put the UBER App on your smart phone in advance as you set everything up.

When you are ready you request a ride. They will know your location outside the port.

You will see information such as the vehicle and you can say no.

You cannot pre book it which is why I said if there is no car available your fall back plan is the taxi.

We used it for the first time in January getting from a downtown hotel in Miami to the Port of Miami and going forward we will continue to use it.

You can go to this site to get some additional information:

FYI you can schedule a ride with Uber allowing a 15 minute pickup window. Just select schedule on the app.

  7. For what it's worth....we're currently on the Explorer and in midship Suite 647 (E) it's great with the larger bumped out balcony including 2 chairs, table and chaise lounge. We've also stayed in 732 and 735 (F's) and love the F cabins ! The concierge and F1 and F2 are all the same. The only difference in the suite itself is the concierge E cabins have the Nespresso machine (which we're using daily) and binoculars. We actually prefer not having a butler....no need for us.

We're traveling with a large group and many couples we're with have a G cabin near by. They definitely have smaller floor space, bathroom and closet space but still doable from what I'm hearing. Definitely only 1 person at a time in the bathroom (and no tub if that's important) . I'd rather have a G than not be able to cruise at all on this beautiful ship. JMO.

petlover, It's a Nespresso machine in the suite? Website lists it as an illy, which in my opinion can't touch the Nespresso. Very pleased if Regent has upgraded to Nespresso:)

  8. If this is the Lima to Buenos Aires cruise I believe it may be the third year in a row that this has happened. We are booked for this cruise in 2018, but this is reinforcing our inclination to cancel....

I think this is the 4th year it's happened. Is it confirmed Norovirus? I'm aware of at least one that was Code Red due to a flu like upper respiratory outbreak.

  9. Oktoberkat, Please take this in fun as that is my intention. I could not help notice your reference to the size of your balcony as abstemious. Abstemious is used with food or drink, no cocktails on the balcony:D?

Heh, cocktails and bubbles aplenty. I like "abstemious" as a way to characterize lack of indulgence which was the case with the hard product afforded by the balcony.

Having sailed on the Navigator I'm still trying to figure out how the balcony can be "abstemious" and have a "lack of indulgence".
