For Grand Cayman the submarine excursion is a lot of fun for kids, for Cozumel excursions to Chankanabb National Park, for Costa Maya the Mayan Lost Mayan Kingdom Water Park.

Thanks for the response, but I can't find anything at the top of the page that says anything about tour shares. I have joined the Roll Call, but don't really know where to go next
You need to post your request for tour sharing on the roll call for your sailing and other roll call members will respond if they're interested in joining you.

Welcome to the wonderful world of cruising! We alway put ship boarding pass, passports, pen to fill out health questionnaire, swim suit, flip, flops ( if not already wearing them), sunglasses, sun screen, anything valuable like phone, iPad, binoculars, camera... I always use a small purse on cruises that will fit in this carry on backpack too.

Lucky you! Many folks who post here are freaked out by Boston hotel prices.
For your precruise night I would look at the Seaport Hotel. Other options would be the Renaissance and the Westin. The Seaport is more cozy. The Westin is lovely, but it's a massive hotel next to the Convention Center. The Seaport is across Northern Ave from the harbor and the Silver Line stops right across Congress St.
For post cruise I would consider the Copley/Back Bay area. The Westin there is attached to Copley Place as is the Marriott. The Sheraton is attached to the Prudential Center. Many shopping and dining options in the area including indoor options in case of bad weather. You can do the tourist thing during the day, but you have comfortable places to hang out in the evening. The Hoho bus has a stop there and the duck tours leave from this area.
Thanks for these recommendations!

Thank you for all of your replies. We are on the 9/17 sailing. Budget is not an issue, but location is just for convenience.

My DH and I are sailing on RCI Serenade of the Seas for a New England/Canada cruise in September 2017. We are flying in the day before the cruise. What area should I be looking at for hotels close to the cruise port.
Also, we will be staying post cruise, also in Boston, for a couple of days to tour the historic areas of the city. Any recommendations for hotel for those days?

I would love to try a cruise but the why are the prices so high and which boat has the best activities for children?
We had never cruised until 2009 and decided to try it when our kids were 11 & 12. We all loved it and became hooked.
As others have pointed out if you add up all of the expenses of a land vacation it usually is cheaper to cruise. It is so nice to able to unpack once and be someplace different every day or so.
Our favorite cruise line for kids is Royal Caribbean. It has a lot of kid activities and on most itineraries have a ton of kids. Depending on your budget, you can go with their big newer ships in the Quantum or Oasis class or, a step down to Freedom class ships, which still have a lot of activities on board. Then there are "smaller" ships which are still nice too.

Our family stayed at the Hampton Inn & Suites Miami Downtown Brickell pre-cruise last summer. They have Stay-and-Cruise packages that provide transportation to the cruise port. It is in a great area with lots of restaurants and a nice place to walk around. It is also one of the nicest Hampton Inns we had ever seen.

My sister and I are on the January 15 sailing. This review really gets me excited for the cruise!

I'm sailing in one of the new Club Level Mini-Suites on the Regal in January. These are listed as priority disembarkation, so does this also pertain to tender ports too?

Royal Caribbean offers several Ft. Lauderdale excursions for passengers with later flights. They take your luggage to the airport and you get it at the end of your tour when they drop you off at the airport.
You may also want to look at the North American ports/Ft. Lauderdale posts here on the board for other ideas.

We've been on both and I also would pick the Getaway.
The Epic has very odd cabin bathroom and shower (not in a separate room, just a shower stall and a toilet closet out in the room with a curtain). We didn't like that at all.
The Getaway does allow you to see the ocean a lot more than the Epic too.

I've been on several RCCL Caribbean cruises and they always change the ship time a day or two before to match the port times.
You can just manually set the time on your phone if you don't have cell or wifi service on ship. If your cellular service is left on to get the local time you will incur charges on your cell phone bill unless you've purchased a plan from your cellular provider.

We used SPB Tours on our Baltic cruise. If you look at their website under frequently asked questions, they have tipping recommendations for different ports.

MTD is usually faster than the assigned time dining. The norm is 60-75 minutes in MTD. I'm a planner and like to look at each day's schedule and make reservations online to fit. The shows often have a 7pm and 9pm showtime to accommodate everyone.

If you're worried about your cash, credit card, ID and phone, buy a waterproof pouch that you keep around your neck. We have several in different sizes that we bought on Amazon. The lanyard can be tightened when swimming/snorkeling so that you don't lose it.

Thanks all! We are going to reserve at the Marriott... Just unsure if we will go thru RFAD or use points!
Have fun and enjoy your cruise!:)

My husband and I did Captain Bob's "Most Popular Tour" a couple of years ago. It was a very nice day with some nice sight seeing, a couple snorkeling stops, a great lunch at a beach restaurant in Grand Case, and beach time at Pinel Island. We stopped boat in the bay at Maho beach to watch planes land. It was a very short walk from the ship to his dock.

We booked a cabana for our family of 5 at Maya Chan when we visited Costa Maya on an NCL cruise. http://costamayabeachresort.com/. Round trip transportation was included. They pick you up outside the cruise center and it was a short drive. Their price included a buffet lunch and it was a very relaxing day.

We've been to Cirque before with our kids. If you're traveling with kids under age 10, I recommend it because they'll enjoy it. Otherwise, skip it.

Resort For A Day website lists Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino day pass for $69/person and they have a wonderful pool. I've stayed there pre cruise one time.
I've used Resortforaday.com before for a day pass in Curaçao and it was easy to book and was very nice day.

You do go through customs at port after disembarking. It is usually very backed up with a long slow line. If you want to get out faster, grab a porter and tip well. They have a separate line and will get a taxi for you too.

We've stayed at the Embassy Suites 17th St. before. It's close to the port. When we stayed they had a package you could book that included your transportation to the ship on their arranged buses. This hotel is nice because each room has a living room with sleeper sofa and a bedroom that can be king or 2 doubles.

Sorry, I missed the part about you sailing out of Miami. Our family sailed NCL out of Miami last summer. We stayed at at Hampton Inn & Suites Downtown/ Brickell in Miami. It was a great area and the nicest Hampton Inn we'd ever seen. It was close to port too.
