  1. Thanks for the response, but I can't find anything at the top of the page that says anything about tour shares. I have joined the Roll Call, but don't really know where to go next

You need to post your request for tour sharing on the roll call for your sailing and other roll call members will respond if they're interested in joining you.

  2. Welcome to the wonderful world of cruising! We alway put ship boarding pass, passports, pen to fill out health questionnaire, swim suit, flip, flops ( if not already wearing them), sunglasses, sun screen, anything valuable like phone, iPad, binoculars, camera... I always use a small purse on cruises that will fit in this carry on backpack too.

  3. Lucky you! Many folks who post here are freaked out by Boston hotel prices.

For your precruise night I would look at the Seaport Hotel. Other options would be the Renaissance and the Westin. The Seaport is more cozy. The Westin is lovely, but it's a massive hotel next to the Convention Center. The Seaport is across Northern Ave from the harbor and the Silver Line stops right across Congress St.

For post cruise I would consider the Copley/Back Bay area. The Westin there is attached to Copley Place as is the Marriott. The Sheraton is attached to the Prudential Center. Many shopping and dining options in the area including indoor options in case of bad weather. You can do the tourist thing during the day, but you have comfortable places to hang out in the evening. The Hoho bus has a stop there and the duck tours leave from this area.

    Thanks for these recommendations!

  4. My DH and I are sailing on RCI Serenade of the Seas for a New England/Canada cruise in September 2017. We are flying in the day before the cruise. What area should I be looking at for hotels close to the cruise port.

Also, we will be staying post cruise, also in Boston, for a couple of days to tour the historic areas of the city. Any recommendations for hotel for those days?

  5. I would love to try a cruise but the why are the prices so high and which boat has the best activities for children?

We had never cruised until 2009 and decided to try it when our kids were 11 & 12. We all loved it and became hooked.

As others have pointed out if you add up all of the expenses of a land vacation it usually is cheaper to cruise. It is so nice to able to unpack once and be someplace different every day or so.

Our favorite cruise line for kids is Royal Caribbean. It has a lot of kid activities and on most itineraries have a ton of kids. Depending on your budget, you can go with their big newer ships in the Quantum or Oasis class or, a step down to Freedom class ships, which still have a lot of activities on board. Then there are "smaller" ships which are still nice too.

  6. Our family stayed at the Hampton Inn & Suites Miami Downtown Brickell pre-cruise last summer. They have Stay-and-Cruise packages that provide transportation to the cruise port. It is in a great area with lots of restaurants and a nice place to walk around. It is also one of the nicest Hampton Inns we had ever seen.

  7. We've been on both and I also would pick the Getaway.

The Epic has very odd cabin bathroom and shower (not in a separate room, just a shower stall and a toilet closet out in the room with a curtain). We didn't like that at all.

The Getaway does allow you to see the ocean a lot more than the Epic too.

  8. I've been on several RCCL Caribbean cruises and they always change the ship time a day or two before to match the port times.

You can just manually set the time on your phone if you don't have cell or wifi service on ship. If your cellular service is left on to get the local time you will incur charges on your cell phone bill unless you've purchased a plan from your cellular provider.

  9. We've stayed at the Embassy Suites 17th St. before. It's close to the port. When we stayed they had a package you could book that included your transportation to the ship on their arranged buses. This hotel is nice because each room has a living room with sleeper sofa and a bedroom that can be king or 2 doubles.

Sorry, I missed the part about you sailing out of Miami. Our family sailed NCL out of Miami last summer. We stayed at at Hampton Inn & Suites Downtown/ Brickell in Miami. It was a great area and the nicest Hampton Inn we'd ever seen. It was close to port too.
