Without wanting to start a new thread, we need to do a test, in RCIs words “1 day” before the cruise.
ive sent an email for clarification, bus does this mean exactly as it reads or are they looking for a 24 hour period?
I can only assume its the day before because thats what it says and the fact that boarding times are not exact, but without the acknowledgment, it’s causing us anxiety.
has anyone done a test in the within the guidance and it has been more than 24 hours?

Have your Dad call C&A and make sure your mom is linked with him. They should have the same number of points.
Why should he call?
If he leaves it, his dad remains platinum, if he calls his dad gets corrected to Gold?
Or am i looking at it wrong?

I like an in depth review with details about non ship related things!!

On my last cruise, I did not remove gratuities (of course), but I only had my room cleaned twice during the 8-day cruise. I was a big boy and kept my room clean.
I did not give the cabin attendant an extra tip but a small "break" instead.
Just something I thought I'd give a try.
Would it make a difference if 5 or so rooms under his care didn't require the room attendant's services each day?

Yes go to GS and get your entire family fill out appreciation forms, these forms go back to the supervisor and are displayed in staff quarters, after achieving a certain amount they are given reward time off in ports. many staff members have never stepped foot on some of the ports the ship docks at weekly.
Money is just money and its hardly ever fully appreciated unless its desperately needed. Cruieline staff are not desperate for money they are just saving it so your extra cash tip will just be "bean counted" into a savings balance.
Is this a wind up.
The line ...... “ Cruise line staff are not desperate for money” is possibly one of the most ridiculous statements ever made on this forum.
Well done you.
For what its worth to the OP. We try and give as much as we can so they can send back to their families who are often living below the poverty line.
I dont think I have met a group of people who are so desperate for cash but stay very reserved about their families financial situation.
Last cruise we handed over $20 to our cabin attendant, $20 to waiter and assistant waiter. This year we handed over a rare $10 to the head waiter who came and spent time with us every night.

Why the envelope?
I regularly tip more but I always hand the money over with their name written on the envelope separately.
I dont know if Royal are skimming money from the sealed envelopes or if they get an added bonus for getting an envelope? (Or am I just over thinking it which I hope is true).

Of course I do, that is why I can't go into politics and become a Minister, lol.:halo::eek:
Well it is time to be Mr Clean and have my fifth shower for the day, before the person from Newcastle UK, whom I apparently offended, wakes up to a murky English dawn for some Colonial bashing.
Do you know the late, great Michael Jackson had 18 showers a day?
I made the mistake of posting before reading more of your posts and noticed you like a good wind up. You are a comedy genius [emoji849]
Oh and its a beautiful crisp morning on the North Eastern Coast line.

And when in UK stay out of those hotel indoor pools, the more chlorine you smell the bigger risk you take. So the ship's doctor told me. Years ago I copped a bad ear infection in Edinburgh - hotel indoor pool. Not being nasty but some of the Brits take their bath in those pools, hotels and ships.:loudcry:
So hold on, the reason you got an ear infection is because British people use swimming pools as a public baths?
We are one of the richest per capita nations in the world but we cant wash at home?
Wow! Maybe take a look at your own personal hygiene before making derogatory statements towards others.

Slightly off topic but I saw a fella called Henry Saxby a few years back, I think we were on the oasis at the time. He was an excellent musician. Has any one seen or heard of him recently?

Looking for a Christmas cruise to cater for a 14 year old.
Narrowed down the selection to Royal Car. Independence of the Seas or Norwegian Epic.
What are peoples thoughts?
Been on both.
Epic is a great ship but i think you will struggle with a standard cabin layout and size.
Epic will also get you for more extras.
Indy is the best all round ship.
Worth pointing out that the spa on the epic is the best we have used

Jamie is regular CD on Voyager doing Asia and Australia, so he certainly is not being consigned to the UK based ships.
Ok ill rephrase. The yanks won't like his style!!

From the new once I choose Jamie Fentiman, really nice guy and very funny the British way.

Yes I agree with this but I feel like they will keep him to as many British sailings as possible. He does humour the right way for me but I appreciate not all nationalities will agree

Chris Hopkins had a member of the CD Staff called Jemma Hampton from England filling in as AM during the February CD conference.
Could that be her? If so, it seemed like she wanted the promotion.
Yes I think thats her, I was just wondering if she had 'made it' yet but maybe not quite.
We have had a baby since our last cruise so we are looking forward to our indy sailing in October

Heres an on topic question!!
The last time I was on Indy was November 2014 and half way through that sailing Jamie Fentiman (then activities manager) took over as Cruise Director from Tim Connor who had to fly home due to a family emergency.
A British lady stepped in as activities manager. I am fairly sure her name was Gemma but I could be totally wrong.
Can anyone re-call her as I cant seem to see her on the boards. Jamie and Gemma (I think) made a great pairing baring in mind neither were in their employed roles.

WOW.
nearly fell off my chair with the symphony pricing.
Over £300 per person increase on what we paid for Harmony and only £200 less for 3rd and 4th passengers (children)
will not be booking at them prices.
Ian.
I will need to know your stance on Brexit before sympathising with you haha.
But yes I totally agree our pound not being worth much anymore makes it much less affordable!

I wouldnt shop there. They have a big mark up. You can talk them down but the other traders in St Maarten will do you the best deals.

Even if they provided tea bags, cabins that I have stayed in (we have sailed in balcony cabins but never a suite) do not have a way to heat up water to use the tea bag with.
A kettle is provided on European sailings, you know how us brits like our tea. We always bring our own tea to prevent us having to make a formal complaint to the captain over the quality and availability of the tea provided by RCI :D

I disagree. It's an opportunity to ask the master of the vessel a question. The problem is, people waste their few seconds with the captain to make a petty complaint. Ask him something juicy!!

Haha.
We were at that same Q + A.
The shower cap one came after a fight nearly broke out over the tea bags question.
Everyone just stood up laughing and started to leave.

It probably depends where your cruise starts from, but in Oct 2011 we did a 15 day TA from Barcelona and had beautiful weather.
This is a valid point, my response was based on your cruise leaving from Southampton.

I am considering a Transatlantic (Allure) and wonder if a balcony is worth it? Thanks
It's a bit difficult to call. In Autumn it's nice from around the Azores which takes about 3/4 days to get to. One problem is the amount of storms in the Atlantic. In November we had great weather on the Indy but the oasis sailed two weeks before and had horrible storms the whole way

We will be on Indy on the Valentines Day 8 day sailing, and expect to have a great time. We have had some terrific CD's and then others who had great staffs that made up for what we did not enjoy from the CD. I like a little bit of a goofball personality -- we had that when Dennis Charles was the CD when we were on Jewel and he was terrific.
What exactly did you wish Jamie did differently?
Jamie took over from Tim (I think) on our TA in November. He is doing a fill in role at present but I liked him to be honest.
He has a 'very British' personality and does like to play the goof ball (I think that's how you day it).

I would go on option 2.
if you and your friends like a laugh then Cozumel will be great for some fun bars for cocktails etc. I also think Labadee is a great experience, the best of the private islands in my opinion.
I'm not hot on Jamaica but I know alot love it and Dunns river falls is a good excursion.

Great review.
We had Stanley as our waiter about a month ago. Can you tell me if he was still paired up with Ivan from Serbia (I think)?
We loved those guys.
