  1. I won't sail NCL because they serve Pepsi and I think you can't carryon your own drinks on their ships too!

No Diet Coke for a week.... that might be scary!

Probably wouldn't sail Carnival if they didn't serve coke. I know we can carry some on, but really love the convience of bottomless bubbles.
  2. The cost is $5 per cruise per device. To add people was very easy. I used it back in January so I can't remember if it was the room number or folio number used to find them.

When added they go into your list of contacts and then you can create chat groups with your contacts.

  3. I book through a TA for two reasons:

I have a travel credit card and when I book through my credit cards TA I get 3 times as many points.

The second is booking through the TA is like using a foreign exchange hedge. My TA quotes in Canadian dollars rather than paying direct to Carnival in US. So they bear the rate risk. On my upcoming cruise I have a suite for the 4 of us and saved almost $500 Cdn just based on repricing the cruise. The US price had not changed but I had booked when the CDN dollar was at its lowest. This way if the CDN dolllar does better I can save some money.

  4. There are new suite benefits which have come out and not well advertised. One is priority baggage. The reason I know this one is our baggage tags for our suite for our upcoming cruise show FTTF on it and we do not have FTTF. Other items I have heard is free bottle of water and a free bag of laundry.

Rumour has it that there should be an official announcement coming.

There are actually benefits with FTTF that you do not get with a suite. I have highlighted the ones below that are suite benefits. Those without a highlight, are not a suite benefit.

Your choice. I agree that you should have done your homework ...

Priority Security, Check-in and Express Boarding

Bypass lines and have exclusive security screening lanes and express boarding lane. This is only available on embarkation day. If you arrive after general boarding has begun, you may bypass the general boarding line and board via the Faster to the Fun lane.

Note: Only VIFP Diamond and Platinum guests as well as guests traveling in deluxe suite accommodations will have access to the Priority Check-In Lounge and proceed on board before FTTF guests.

    First Access to Stateroom

Your stateroom will be ready for you as soon as you board so you can relax or freshen up for all the fun you are about to have.

Note: This is also a benefit for VIFP Diamond and Platinum guests.

    Priority Luggage

While we process thousands of bags, FTTF luggage will receive priority delivery.

Note: This is also a benefit for VIFP Diamond and Platinum guests.

    Guest Services

Quickly have any of your questions answered or requests addressed as you will have a dedicated phone and line at Guest Services.

Note: This is also a benefit for VIFP Diamond and Platinum guests.

    Dining Reservations

Priority Dinner Time Assignment: FTTF guests will be cleared after VIFP Platinum guests. This benefit does not include specific time reservations for 'Your Time Dining'.

Note: VIFP Diamond guests and guests traveling in deluxe suite accommodations are guaranteed their dining in the Main Dining Room.

    Tender Priority

You will have priority tender service from ship to shore (multiple departure times may be possible) so you can explore ashore as quickly as you want to. When ready to go ashore, if not on a Carnival shore excursion, present yourself at the Guest Services Desk.

Note: This is also a benefit for VIFP Diamond and Platinum guests and guests traveling in deluxe suite accommodations.

    Debarkation Choices

We are always sad to see you go. But when your cruise is over, you may choose an early or late disembarkation time upon arrival to your homeport.

Note: This is also a benefit for VIFP Diamond and Platinum guests and guests traveling in deluxe suite accommodations.

  5. Thanks for the tip on the Cheerios. I may have to grab a box at breakfast to bring with me.

I think we will be staying away from the club orient area. We are going on a family excursion boogie boarding.

But it would be really funny to see someone only wearing water shoes! But then some sights can never be unseen.

No shoes needed. Smooth sandy bottom. I would recommend bringing some cherrios to feed the fish. You will be amazed how they swarm to you.

  6. Think about this, later staggered check-in times gives Carnival more time get rooms ready. In fact, knowing which guests can't check in until 2:30 gives them better information on when rooms need to be ready. The can prioritize by check-in time.

That means those with a check-in of 10:30 they can prep those rooms after the other priority ones and possibly have them ready for then they board the ship.

What does this mean? Rather than rushing to get all of the rooms done by 1:30 they now have more time.

So maybe BOARDING TIME DOES NOT EQUAL STAGGERED CHECK-IN TIME. But consider what John is asking on Facebook right now. He wants to know how quickly you want to get in your stateroom after boarding. Think of how Carnival can use this information along with staggered check-in.

Well I did think of where this could lead and....

If he sees an overwhelming response of "I want in right away" then Carnival can manage staggered check-in times to ensure the rooms can be done in time for the earliest boarding time that could create. That could lead to less early check-in time options available as they will still need do the FTTF, Diamond and Platinum first.

I am sure there are smart people at Carnival that have thought of this. Don't be surprised if this is where it is all going.

BOARDING time has nothing to do with the staggered CHECK-IN time. Check-in can start as early as 10:30; I've never seen boarding before 11:30 anywhere.

I have rarely encountered anyone standing at the doors to the rooms. On one occasion, they argued with me about letting me pass (they didn't care that I had a Platinum card - they said NO ONE was allowed until 1:30).

It will be interesting to see how this new system works.

  7. Again I want to point out that it is very important that you make sure the pregnancy is ok before you go.

Ectopic pregnancies do happen and without emergency surgery they are FATAL. See a doctor and get an ultrasound. I've had one and it is scary. Luckily my OB does routine 7 week scans to check for them. I had my scan and was in surgery 4 hours later.

  8. Please let us know when you get back! Have a great cruise.

We leave Sunday for our cruise, I just spoke to someone and she said they were told guest services line included. Not included was room ready, and luggage would not be in room early Got me. Guess I'll find out Sunday. All I care about is that I finally got an aft wrap around suite with a connecting cabin! Can't wait!
  9. If you are sailing to the Caribbean then Zika could be an issue. If it was me I would cancel.

The cruise lines will also only take you up to a certain number of weeks.

But if you are still early in your pregnancy <9 weeks then I would get an ultrasound before going to confirm that you do not have an ectopic. If you have one that ruptures out in the sea this could be fatal.

  10. This one won us pub trivia!

An aft deck with a short bult on it is the poop deck!

You'll come off more knowledgeable and savvy if you use correct terminology.

    Rooms are cabins or staterooms.

    Halls are passage ways.

While we're at it I'll throw out some more:

    Ceilings are overheads

    Floors are decks

    Bathrooms are heads

Where you sleep is called a berth

Dining rooms and buffets are mess halls

    Food is prepared in galleries

Front of ship is fore; where the anchor is is called forecastle

    Rear of ship is aft

    Right side is starboard

    Left is port

Middle of the ship is admidships

Beam is the widest point of a ship

Belay is to stop whatever you're doing

Displacement is the weight of water displaced by the immersed volume of a ship's hull, exactly equivalent to the weight of the whole ship.

Flag of convience is the business practice of registering a merchant ship in a sovereign state different from that of the ship's owners, and flying that state's civil ensign on the ship. The practice allows the ship's owner to reduce operating costs or avoid the regulations of the owner's country.

Lee is the side of the ship protected from the wind.

Remember a few of these and you'll soon sound like an old sea dog.

  11. The ship does provide towels. The best part is they change them out for you when you reboard after been on port so you can have a fresh towel very easily. I found mine took a long time to dry. The down side is everyone has the same towel so yours doesn't stand out. Also they are thick which is great but it makes them heavy.

I may look into the microfiber ones posted on this thread. Looks interesting.
