  1. Liquor like Crown is about half price from the home price; however, since Texas implemented a liquor tax of 3.30-4.00 a bottle, it makes the cheaper liquors such as rum not worth the effort to bring back for just a couple of bucks savings.

I see the cosmetic prices are the same as home, i.e. Estee Lauder. You just don't pay tax. Not worth the effort unless you ran out. I would wait for the free gift events at home.

  2. My favorite would be sea day, port day, sea day, port day, sea day, etc. I like to be busy in port then slow down and do other things on the ship on sea days. On a Carnival cruise two years ago we had two sea days then we were supposed to dock in our first port and it was cancelled. They weren't ready for it and they threw some things together. That day wasn't so enjoyable since they didn't seem to have a cancelled port day "Plan". I do like to do lots of the planned activities on sea days so I am really not being lazy. But all in all, I do love sea days!

  3. I have been there four times now and am going again next week. They just keep adding to the island. My very favorite think is the kinkajou. I love that little guy! Husband dove last time and it was great. I think they went to Mary's Place which is a fantastic dive site. The last two times it rained a lot so I really want sunshine this time! What is the price for pizza (in case son and friend decide to go on the cheap).

  4. I really don't think there is anything wrong with pointing out where you think they have made a mistake.

But seriously you are on vacation, everyone should be doing it "just for fun", it's not like the prize is a new sports car.

And to bring it to these boards because it is still eating at you, sorry but I think you are stressing over something very trivial. I'd say let it go and if you don't think they are doing it right, don't go again on your next cruise.

He was only pointing out something that bothers tons of cruisers on most sailings. Type A people aren't going to change on vacation. Doesn't matter what the prize was. It's the principle of the issie. To say don't go on a cruise is ridiculous.

  5. Temanski, I too have seen wrong answers and/or multiple answers be possible on lots of cruises. In some cases, a simple google search could bear out the correct answer. Especially with names of songs.

I think that they don't care. They get half their general trivia it seems from Trivial Pursuit and they don't change their questions often. They should put in some real effort into coming up with some new trivia challenges. We had lots of repeat questions at different trivias during the same cruise a week ago!

I understand where you're coming from. It's okay to be a stickler about your passions!

88.00 is more than we budgeted but we would do the 38.00 trip if it had been offered to us. Sadly, the cheapest now is 65.00 without transportation so add that in and we are back to about 90. I had seen the 65.00 package with transportation and we were very ready to book, then I got a quote that was different than the one I saw from June.

We are going off ship excursions to get something affordable. We do have a budget. This place looks awesome but not sure if we can go now. I usually don't eat much on excursions to beach so I could have done it without the food but it was not offered in my quote.

  7. To each their own. I try not to be snarky about what it is that others like about cruising... whether that be gambling, drinking, smoking, soaking up sunshine, exploring ports, playing bingo, going to the art auction, etc. I'm sure the Guidry sisters are proud of their name and see no harm putting it up once the ship leaves the port. I guess they don't have stalkers:D But their door sure is cute.

Not everybody is going to decorate their door. It's an innocent pleasure. So the chances of the corridors becoming an exercise in grade school creativity are few and far between. But, I'm doing it and I don't even put bumper stickers on my car. Passing judgment on other people's innocent pleasures is BAD karma.

    I agree. Decorate, sister!

  8. Stacy, I love your review and photos. I have only gone through six pages and will read through but i have to know WHAT KIND OF CAMERA DID YOU USE?

Do you change your settings from inside to outside? If it is a small camera, what setting do you use? My pics have been coming out blurry and I was told to reduce the 12 megapix to about 5 as the higher the pixel, the more steady the shot has to be.

Anyway, any tips you can give on your camera and abilities would be so helpful. This is a great review and fabulous pix!!!

i have not been happy with my current camera and may need to reinvest in a new one.

  9. Even if there isn't an emergency, it's still a good thing to have a little flashlight with you. How often do you look behind the bed because you dropped something, have to look in someone's throat to see if they have strep or just sinus drainage, read somewhere dark, or need something that doesn't provide enough light to wake your spouse when you need to find the ibuprofen in the middle of the night?

I have a little one that lives on my purse, plus one that flashes and changes colors that I can clip to me when I'm riding my scooter so people can see me better.

Smart phones/iphones serve so many purposes such as clock, alarm clock, music, GPS, and with so many aps, I have a flashlight ap. What other aps would be helpful on a cruise?

  10. Pack a waterproof lanyard cover for my sign and sail card and passport if going off the ship.

    \)

    Sunglasses you don't mind losing.

Swimsuit coverup... so people don't freak out if they see your robe.:p

I can't bring sunglasses that I don't mind losing! Mine are prescription progressives and my newest pair were almost 400.00 on sale this week. I will be bringing a strap for those windy speed boat rides as I cannot afford to lose them!!

  11. I've heard that too, that's why I made sure mine was new and also a surge protector. Figured I had less of a chance of getting it confiscated and mine made it through no problem.

You can bring your surge protected power cord. They can confiscate it under the conditions below per their website.

    • Personal grooming devices such as hair dryers, flat and curling irons, shavers, etc., are allowed on board when used with proper caution. These devices should not be used when other electrical appliances are plugged in. However, if such devices are determined to pose a hazard, they will be removed and returned the last day of the cruise prior to debark.

  12. I would love to see a great classic rock band who is authentic and not corny or boring. Real edgy rockers which I have never seen on a cruise. Just play me some Enter Sandman, Sweet Child of Mine, anything Aerosmith, Ac/DC, Zeppelin, Rush, Motley Crue, Nirvana, Pink Floyd, Queen, you get the picture. I am a "child" of classic rock but have never been impressed with cruise bands. Probably because i like a little wild and edge to my music which is not common on the lullaby music of cruises. Would love to go on the rock cruises but they have always been scheduled when I cannot get off work. I have a very "conservative" job but let loose with my musical tastes.

I am on the Magic in July so am very hopeful for some music that I like for a change!!

Now some classic rock covers would make us and our 21 year old son very happy!!

If you know what band will be on Magic in July, I would like to look them up on YouTube.

  13. After about 30 cruises, I get no enjoyment out of packing lots of extra shoes, dresses, etc. to dress up for other people for two nights of the week. I have more formal pics than I need and would rather relax and kick back now. With the new baggage fees, it is another bag for the two or three of us to pack suits, gowns, dress shoes, and all the other paraphenalia. Skip it! NCL rules with the choice of whether to dress up or not. On my next Carnival cruise, I will probably eat the buffet those nights or pay to eat and not wear formal wear, but regular clothes.

But those who love to dress, keep doing it!

  14. I cashed in my 10K points for an OBC for my cruise next month. It was easy and I got email confirmation in case they don't show it when I get on board.

I have since applied for the Sapphire card and it should be arriving a a couple days per the email we got. Their deal is just plain better. Getting 50K bonus with a 3K spend in 3 months is just too good to pass up. I will probably cancel my NCL card soon since there are no other advantages to using it other than for this cruise. The Sapphire card pays 2X on dining and ALL types of travel for the same deal.

I wish we still had the same deal from a couple years ago. I coud get practically a free cruise on 16.5K spending. Takes well over three times that now so bye bye NCL card. A better card is available!

  15. Thanks Ute Fan and Preds for both of your quick replies. I was going to send USPS Priority with Return Reciept requested but may spring for the FED Ex since that is automatically trackable. My actual payment deadline is 9/8 but I want to be sure to get it there ahead of time. Thanks for your excellent answers. Totally makes sense--I hadn't thought about the need for the street address for FED EX! Sounds like Fed Ex is possibly a bit more reliable that USPS for this particular shipment.

    Thanks again!

  16. Please help me oh wise ones...

The address listed on page 1 is a street address. The address on the back of the certificates is PO BOX 025403, Miami.

Is there a reason I should NOT use the address they show on the back of the certificates and use the street address instead? Just want them to get to the right people.

I have 1500.00 in certs and a balance of 1468. Will I get the difference credited back to my card? Want to send it by tomorrow if someone knowledgable can respond.

    Thanks

  17. I know that points expire within 3 years. But if I acquire points until, let's say, 2 years 10 months and then request certificates, do I still have a year in which to actually use the certificate or does it expire when my original points started to earn? If I have a year to use them, then essentially you have 3 years to earn points, get certificates, then another year to sail. Is this correct? Thanks! I don't want to waste my hard earned points!

  18. I will be cruising in 3 weeks and we just booked the cruise. I have almost 900 points but it is pointless to use any points since I booked so late. Here is my question: I almost always book within 2 months of sailing or less so final payment is always due for me at booking. How can I use certificates then? I very rarely book 90 days out. Can I just request certificates, hold on to them, then send in once I book? Final payment is always due when I book though since I am a last minute cruiser. Hope I havent wasted the last 1.5 years accumulating almost a thousand points for nothing!
