  1. We have also been to Port Chalmers and Dunedin and after all the beautiful pictures from @StLouisCruisers , and a number of others I don’t think there is much more to be seen than more sheep and more nice gorges but I will try to find a few shots. The bank was closed ……. Lots of places to go to …….. we even have the direction to the South Pole Kids were selling their ware for a school project but from the looks were eating most of it themselves . It was a very nice day and we enjoyed the Train ride Have a great day everybody , best wishes for all ! Tony 😁
  2. It is quite late already but thought to do some more practising copying and pasting on my new computer , which is so different from my 12 year old iMac that I am scrapping . So I have to learn a lot of new things . I am not a phone person , I have even been told that I am a dinosaur because I have no cell phone ..............................than this happened ! I was sitting behind the computer fiddling around and updating my "contacts list on the new Mac , the phone rang and the voice on the other end said " Tony " ,,, I knew right away who it was, Pat ! Just out of the blue I received a call from our amazing friends Ann and Pat @Vict0riann which completely took me by surprise . We have been I believe on about 10 fantastic HAL cruises together and not just these one or two week ones , done a lot of independent touring together , enjoyed a lot of meals in each others company and shared a lot of stories , so it was wonderful to hear a very familiar voice on the other end when Pat said " Tony " ....... I almost fell of my chair ...............so Martha and I had a lovely talk with Ann and Pat . What a wonderful surprise ! They made our day ! From August 30, 2019 on the Prinsendam with other CC'rs and quite a few cruise friends . I will try not to duplicate too many pictures of Porto when we were on a great tour with Pirates of the Cruise Ships Just one more of the beautiful tile work at the trainstation ...... The well hidden very old Jewish Quarters The bridge seen from the top near the cloister . Time for a glass of Real Port and a snack with "Bear " Guide Bruno and the ladies .......he was quite the charmer ! Later that evening a wonderful Rudy’s dinner at the Pinnacle to finish another perfect day ! Tony 😍😍
  3. Happy Birthday Rich @richwmn Best Wishes and many happy returns ! 😁
  4. We have had the pleasure to get to Katakolon about seven times now , and besides going to the museum we have done olive oil and wine tasting on some of these visits . I will check if I have some favourite pictures at hand to share with you from a few of our different cruises , because I think we will again get lots of pictures today Very nice how they placed all of these pieces back together to show us what it looked like With our grandsons , first time Europe for them , what an eye opener specially for Spencer who's favourite subject was Greek Mythology Premier Cruise Koningsdam ….and another 100 meter dash …. Ready …..Start …….Go ! They set a new Olympic record ! Great memories of all the times we were there . This was my very first attempt to copy and paste on my new iMac which was a lot different to do than with the 12 year old one . Best Wishes to all the Dailyites and have a nice Sunday everybody ! Tony 😄
  5. Good afternoon all , thank you to Rich @richwmn and all contributors to the Daily . After junking my 12 year old iMac a week ago , which has served me well but was nearly failing me , " salingdutchy Tony " is back lurking again whenever he has a chance to see what is going on in the HAL cruising world and with my cruise friends, I don't know when I will be back posting and or posting my photos because I have got a lot of work to do transferring all my stuff to this brand new iMac which at first sight is very different from what I was use to . Have a great day everybody Tony 😄🤨
  6. Thank you Ann @Vict0riann for posting these pictures when you and Pat specially for us got off the Island all the way to Vancouver to see Martha and me for a couple of days before we went on our cruise from Vancouver to Hong Kong for some 45 days in 2017. You took us to the beautiful peaceful Chinese Garden in the centre of the city . I was going to post a series from that day myself but I am having computer problems so went out and purchased a new one so I will be off line for a few days . My computer that I have been on for about 12 years was just getting too old .......It just could not keep up with me !!!!! Tony 😁
  7. Just a couple of pictures of our second cruise with Holland America on Sep 5th 2007 on the Zaandam from Vancouver to Alaska . Our very first cruise was in 1987 on the old Nieuw Amsterdam in the Caribbean as one of a large group of Philips corp dealers a cruise which was so very different from the nowadays cruises and which got us getting on board a HAL ship more than just once a year . From our window of the Fairmont Hotel across the Canada Place cruise terminal with the convention centre under construction . Love Canada Place Pier which is such an iconic landmark and a truly inspirational and welcoming place . The Pan Pacific Hotel Vancouver on the pier . DW together with her DM taking it all in and waiting for our cabin to be ready for us . Mom was so nervous being on a ship for the second time in her life . her first time was as a refugee escaping Europe after WWII ended. Canada Place seen from the Zaandam , doesn't this get you in the mood to go "sailing " ? The Lions Gate bridge, opened in 1938 connecting Vancouver and North Vancouver . Clearance below is 61 meter . I possibly might find some more pictures from other Vancouver departures. Have a wonderful day everybody and Thank You for the Daily all the contributors and the main man Rich ! @richwmn Tony 😁😁
  8. Hi Fred and Mitzi @Overhead Fred, Thank you very much for these beautiful Cruise videos of the Kawartha Voyageur , that looks awesome to do specially for a guy that studied Roads , Rivers , Bridges and Locks . Have to do that one day maybe in a few years when I am really retired ....... Have a great time on the lake , these days it's good to be away from TV and instead just relax or go fishing on the lake ! Greetings Tony & Martha
  9. Hope you all are having a good day . Here in SW Ontario it all of a sudden is much cooler than the last week or so have been , hopefully we will not have any rain for a few days , the garden and the fields arounds us are just drenched after the big down pours. When we were on the Prinsendam cruise in 2019 we had a very nice but simple day in Greenock . Once on shore we walked to the train station and purchased a combo ticked for the train ride including the Hop On bus in Glasgow for the day at a special rate . So without further ado and too many descriptions I will just post a few nice pictures . A very worthwhile and fun museum to visit in Glasgow University of Glasgow Art Gallery A Scottish Independence Rally Getting married in style …... Not enough business in the Old Bank anymore so might as well turn it into a very nice Bar , business was booming ! Took the train back to Greenock and returned to the Elegant Explorer after a very nice day Wishing everybody a very nice day without any big problems , its almost weekend again .... Tony 😁
  10. We had a wonderful tour on April 11th 2017 the day we reached Salaverry ( Trujillo ) Peru on a tour that Ann @Vict0riann had set up for us . We were with 15 of us in a mini bus and had a fantastic guide , Alfredo . We went out of the Port and drove to Huacas del Sol and la Luna an Archeological site From there we went into the historic centre of Trujillo , the Main square and the Emancipation mansions It’s now time for a nice little lunch so we drove to Huanchaco fishing village and see the " reed boats “ A delicious omelette and some white rice After lunch we drove to Chan Chan another archeological site After a wonderful day and learning a lot about Peru it is than time again to return to the port , Captain Christopher Turner will be waiting for us. Have a great day everybody , take care ! Tony 😁
  11. When we were on the Zaandam on our way to Antarctica , Feb 2015 in the Cockburn Channel going to Punta Arenas I loved those screens on the Zaandam which gave us our exact location of where we were , they should have those on the Pinnacle class ships instead of those useless screens in the crows nest that never seem to work ! Amazing scenery ............ After that it was supper time . Have a wonderful Sunday everybody , Best Wishes to all ! Tony 😁
  12. Just can't get my pictures showing like I normally can............???? What's up ? Finally😅 that's better ! Tony PastedGraphic-1.tiff
  13. After watching the exciting bicycle race in France I got busy in the garden even at temperatures of 30C + degrees PastedGraphic-1.tiff Today I harvested my garlic , about 2 weeks early from other years . PastedGraphic-2.tiff They look pretty good and we have about 75 of them . The netting in the background is over top of my bush beans , they just started flowering and I try to prevent the deer getting at them before me , as they did last year . PastedGraphic-3.tiff New experiment for this year "Midnight Snack " cherry tomatoes . They are a little larger , which is great, are almost black on the top . Anthocyanin a healthy antioxidant on top ( like blueberries ) and when ripe they will be red on the lower part Tony 😄
  14. Thank you very much for doing that @WannaSea I have always wondered .
  15. That's great that you were also on this wonderful cruise @Live4cruises and that you also still remember the escapades of Captain Bowland and cruise director JC doing the weather report on ship TV , something we still laugh about specially because the Captain towered over JC even when he was standing on a specially made for him box that he had to stand on to get close to the Captains height . Everybody watched that TV in the morning with all of the special weather maps of the 2 huge storms ........... Of coarse Hotel Director Stan Kuppens was so good to have him on board ! What a team !!!! Talking to Captain Bowland years later when he did our renewal of vows he told us he also was a hockey player in New Brunswick , guess what position ..... he was the goalie , he must have filled the whole net ! Impossible to score on him ! Tony
  16. We were in Nanortalik on Sept 8th 2012 with the Eurodam on a very ,very eventful Voyage of the Vikings with Captain Darin Bowland , Hotel Manager Stan Kuppens and cruise director JC ! What a team !!! Due to multiple hurricanes we had already missed the Shetland Islands because of hurricanes and later on we had to miss St John’s Newfoundland due to hurricanes Leslie AND Michael who were predicted to produce 50 foot seas !!! and 80 knot winds so the captain decided for safe passage to go around Nfld between it and Canada’s mainland to outrun these severe storms . Enough talk I will show some nice pictures of Nanortalik a very nice village with a population of about 1200 and here comes the Eurodam with about 2100 guests …… BTW The name Nanortalik means “Place Where the Polar Bears Go " Can somebody translate this please ...? We first went for a nice little walk around the village . Nanortalik is on a small island half a mile off the mainlands coast . An older Inuit couple cleaning the catch of the day We visited the local museum which has many interesting things like tupilaks , old kayaks and tools the Inuit use and walked past this very nice little church . This is a tender port and after an easy very nice day in a very different culture we went back to the Eurodam . Have a great day everybody , Take Care and Stay Safe Tony 😀
  17. Thank you Graham @grapau27, yes besides taking a lot of time posting pictures here on the Daily today we watched the Tour de France first which is always nice , we like cycling and seeing all the beautiful places in France . Than of coarse we watched the football ( which btw is played with your feet ) and dressed in Orange , " We " scored a beautiful first goal and than the drama began . Of coarse we do not agree with the penalty decision people will be talking about that for a long time , but I agree with you that England especially played a very good defensive game and did not give the Dutchies a lot of space to built an attack . Congrats and strength on Sunday ! Spain is playing very well and they deserved the win over France . Tony
  18. This is why we will never forget Sihanoukville !!! I just have to also show this about Sihanoukville from our last cruise before the Covid outbreak and all borders suddenly were closed ,when we were forced to circle the seas to find a place that would accept the Westerdam to land after 11 days at sea ……….. You can see after they closed the Terminal in Taiwan and we were not allowed to go to the Philippines , Japan and Thailand than Cambodia finally welcomed us to come back to Sihanoukville Our daughter in New York emailed us this “ I believe Mum and Dad are in the NY Post " from when we were not sure yet where and when we would be able to get on shore . That photo was taken from inside the crowsnest and we were sitting at this table , while we were watching and discussing why the Thailand Navy ship was shadowing us so close We had to wait a few hours before we could bring out the gangway while the World Press was waiting for something...... Overnight we all received a shawl “ Made in Cambodia “ from the Government of Cambodia , even father did . You can see a lot of stress had disappeared from 11 days at sea to see what would be happening to us . Nobody could go on shore yet we were all standing on the railings with big smiles ….. Waiting for the dignitaries ……. The President of Cambodia is coming and is landing on pier with 2 helicopters President of Cambodia gets out makes a speech and a lot of busses are rolling in Captain, officers and Seattle staff are presented by the president with flowers Over the next 4 or 5 days all of the passengers on board ship had to get transported to Phnom Penh either by charter flights or on a 4 hour bus ride We all had to get another quick medical test and official papers so we could enter Cambodia Embassy Personal from the USA , Canada and the Netherlands came on board ship They were finally rolling out the Gangway and the first few busses were loaded to go to the Airport about half an hour away with the first Chartered airplanes , we were one of the lucky ones to get off after a few hours , some passengers were stuck on board with a lot more medical tests to undergo before they could make their way , most of them on a long 4 hours rough bus ride . There was a lot of military presence in the Port and also the Airport Chaos at Phnom Penh airport I believe these are all masks manufactured in Cambodia being flown all over the world in the Passenger Hall There is a lot more to this story a lot of people were taken to a hotel downtown Phnom Penh for at least 3 , 4 or 5 days . Special HAL personal were flown in to organize flights for each and everybody ( Remember we all had flights booked from Singapore or other cruise Ports down the road ) Other folks were kept on the Westerdam for about another 5 days . The CEO of HAL came to Phnom Penh . We were very lucky we stepped on shore the second day only stood in line at this airport for about 5 hours waiting for the the counter to open because NOW there were rumours going around one of our passengers was supposedly found positive in Bangkok from the planes that left the 1st day . Only about 5 more flights were allowed to leave the second day, including us . I stood in line with the new HAL person who was arranging flights for another couple of hours we were than booked flying to Seoul with a 10 hour stop over and than had a direct flight to Toronto in Premier seating from HAL . And proof that we were World News ! ( Dutch newspaper , sailingdutchy standing in the centre under the little Blue Balloon waiting to get a flight arranged by HAL ) Tired but relieved we reaches Seoul , S Korea . The rumours that somebody of the Westerdam passengers had Covid were found not to be true NO MORE pictures from me today……….. I have to get off my …. And do something Tony 😍😅
  19. OOPS ! Thank you so very much Sharon @Sharon in AZ for letting me know right away of the mistake I made on posting the pictures on the wrong thread, very much appreciated after I had spend so much time putting that together. Tony 😃
  20. Part 2 of what Martha calls Tony’s Terrific Tantalizing Tiring Tours ……..wont tell you the other words she uses sometimes Some for all of us Driving by the beach on the way back to town for lunch at the same restaurant . All being served by these young men During and after lunch we were treated by some lovely dancers They were so appreciative ! Going to the big market before heading back to the Volendam What a nice day we had , we returned in 2017 but you saw enough pictures I believe BUT I might be back a little later Tony 😘
  21. Our first time in Sihanoukville , Cambodia was on Dec 12th 2015 while on the Volendam from Sidney , Australia to Singapore . We first visited a small fishing village where almost all the people live with the whole family on their boats and the women do a lot of work on shore unloading the boats , sorting fish by hand and a lot of the men were relaxing from their days of catching the fish . I will never forget the hour we spend there ……..and appreciate our way of life so much more ! The " Gas station " for the small motorbikes ………. old jerry cans with gas and we also saw liter bottles with gas ???? ( Sorry for being upside down but still wanted to show you this ) From the fishing village we went to some temples and the cemetery . By our guide we were told to Please do not give anything to the begging children they should be going to school ….. there is a school for everyone . Time for a cup of coffee and this was also amazing : It was in a restaurant where youth , who did the serving and who had been involved in petty crimes and they were taught by adult men how to learn a trade and make an honest living. Some more temples and a roundabout in the city . A market , park for a family to relax and a gorgeous waterfall I will be back with Part 2 Tony 😘
  22. Good morning to all the Dailyites and Thank you again to all of the organizers and contributors of the Daily. It is good to see that today’s Port is Hong Kong so I can relive the few times we have been there we had a couple of wonderful days in Hong Kong on Nov 8 & 9 while on the Volendam . Today I will just post what I think were some nice pictures from the first day without too much commentary , I had a tour with the 4 of us and a wonderful guide Mandy. Cruise Terminal former airport The " Ting Ting " Tram Delicious little lunch Back on the road going to the Market Street The Chinese Health Store Visiting a Temple Fortune Teller at rest Part of our "Renewal of Vows Ceremony " ( it worked !) Visiting a couple of gorgeous Gardens , in the middle of Hong Kong . Between all of the "Hustle and Bustle " a garden of Peace and Tranquility . Enjoying a Memorial Garden on our way back to the port Saying our Goodbye's to the lovely Pinnacle crew , we will be flying out the next evening . ( We have since met Japar in the middle a number of times on different ships !! ) Hope I did not take too much space and your time today , maybe later on I will do our second day on the way to the airport ..... Tony😘
  23. Good afternoon all and Thank You all for the Daily and for all the many contributions. . I just happened to be sorting some pictures from our last cruise this morning and one of the places I was looking at was A Coruna from when we were there on the Nieuw Statendam on May 2nd 2024 . The beauty was a little bit lost on Santiago de Compostela due to it being rainy day but I like to share a few pictures anyway . Tony 😄
  24. Hope everybody had a very nice 4th yesterday , no hangovers , or firework damage but a very nice day to celebrate . For the garden club today , after many years not flowering and us not giving up there are 3 beautiful flowers in our Yucca , we love them and so do the hummingbirds , there also a a few very nice begonias in few flower . So sad that I lost a couple of begonias to either the rabbits or the chipmunks . This year we have been inundated by chipmunks must be because of the extremely mild winter , I do not kill them but just send some on a vacation . Wishing you all a very nice weekend , mine will be busy with the Euro soccer and the Netherlands fighting for a spot in the semi finals and another F-1 Race on Sunday and than there is also some more gardening to do . Tony 😄
  25. Since I am sitting behind the computer I might as well send a few more pictures of Rhodes when we were on a cruise with Ann and Pat @Vict0riann in 2021 on the Eurodam our first post Covid cruise ! Hope they won’t mind me showing them having a great time ! Saw Ann just posted another few nice shots ! 😁 What Pat and I saw a day earlier . Saint Paul's Bay behind the Acropolis of Lindos. Our Taxi driver / Guide Nikos Zachariadis took us to this wonderful roadside family restaurant with a beautiful view over the sea while enjoying a delicious little lunch. And the grandma of the family send us some extra baked goods for desert Wishing everybody a great day Tony 😁
