  1. Embarkation Day.

I woke up around 9:00 a.m. I took a shower and woke the rest of the family up around 9:30 a.m. We packed our suit cases and went to Dunkin Donuts to get some breakfast. I sent my family in to place our order while I played with the GPS. After about 10 minutes, I went inside to find out what was taking so long. My family had placed their order but my husband was having trouble determining how much money he needed to give them. He is on quite a bit of medication and sometimes he gets confused. Anyway he had shorted them about 26 cents. So he grabbed their tip jar and started counting out 26 cents. I explained to him that that was their tip money that he was using. He apologized and put their money back plus a nice tip to make up for it.:D We ate our donuts and set off to the airport.

When I booked our car rental I booked a one way rental from the airport to the Miami cruise port. This was a less expensive option than taking a taxi to the port. I was under the impression that we would drop the car off at a rental center closer to the port and board a shuttle from that location to the cruise terminal. I was later told that I would just return the car to the airport and a shuttle would take us from the airport to the port. We returned the car and were lucky enough to get the last four seats on the shuttle. The people that arrived a few minutes after us were told to wait for the next shuttle.

When we arrived at the port we had to drive by the terminal for the NCL ship that was in port that day. I think it was the Pearl but I could be wrong. Any way there were at least 100 people waiting outside in the sun. I was afraid that there may be a long wait to board the Breeze but there wasn't. We were dropped off, gave the porters our luggage and set off to board the ship.

I saw some men standing around with wheel chairs and asked them if it was ok if they gave my husband a lift. He uses canes to walk. They said sure and they took us in to the terminal. They walked right by the VIP lounge. I told them that we were Platinum and had priority boarding but we were told that they had a separate area for wheel chair boarding. We were the only people in the wheel chair boarding area. We went right up to the desk and got our keys. We were told our rooms should be ready and told to go ahead and board. There were still people sitting in the terminal waiting to board. We walked right by them and got on the ship. I think we got on the ship around 12:00.

We went right to our cabin, room 2258. We had a cove balcony cabin. The room was bigger than what I had imagined. The kids were excited and really liked the room. Although the room was a little bit cramped for four people we all managed to move around in it just fine. When we booked the cabin I specifically made sure that the bed request was for 2 twin beds and not a king bed. My husband I are sleep incompatible. We need our own space and blankets. Unfortunately, the steward did not take note of the request and had the beds set up as a king bed. My husband set off to find a steward to rectify the situation. He came back and told me that the steward told him that her shift had ended and she would be back at 3:00 to fix the beds. I am sorry I do not know the steward's name, as I was never introduced to her.

We finished unpacking our carry-ons and set off to explore the ship. However when we opened the door, we saw that our luggage was already delivered to our room. That was a nice surprise. We unpacked the rest of our luggage and went to get lunch.

On the way to lunch I saw the bottomless bubbles table and stopped to buy each of the kids a sticker. I grabbed a Guy's ringer burger on my way to meet my family. I read several reviews that the ringer was the best burger so I was anxious to try it. The burger was good. But I live in the Sauk Prairie area of Wisconsin. This is where the Culvers are from. It is my opinion that the Culver's butter cheeseburger with the works is better than the ringer, but that is just my opinion. My family was still in the buffet line, so I found a place to sit down and ordered a bucket of Foster's beer. It is cheaper to get a bucket of beer than it is to buy them individually. You don't have to drink them all in one day. We take any un-opened cans back to our cabin and then swap them out for cold ones when we are ready for another beer.

After lunch the kids and I went to explore the ship while my DH went back to the cabin. We started at our room and worked our way up, floor by floor. I think it took us about 1 and ½ hours to walk through the whole ship. By the time we got back to the room, they were already making announcements about the muster drill. We were assigned muster station 4B. We met in the 2nd floor of the Sapphire dining room. A ½ an hour to 40 minutes later we were set free to enjoy our cruise.

My husband and I are nappers. We enjoy a good afternoon nap when we are on vacation. We went back to our cabins anticipating a nice nap, only to find that our beds had not been separated yet. So my husband went off to hunt down the steward to ask her to separate our beds. She told him that we would have to wait until they turned down our rooms while we were at dinner. Now I was upset. I told my husband that I had specifically made sure that they knew we wanted twin beds when I booked the cruise. The steward had initially said she would separate the beds at 3:00. It was now after 4:00 and our beds were not separated. I did not see why we would have to skip our nap because the steward did not bother to read the notes about bed choices when she initially prepared the room. My husband went to hunt her down again and told her that I was upset. About 20 minutes later they came and separated the beds for us. The kids decided that they were also tired, so they lay down and took naps too.

When we woke up, I noticed that we still hadn't left port. Our cabin was located right above a gangway on deck 0. There were about 4 ship employees standing on the gangway. All of the sudden they started running towards the terminal. A family had come out of the terminal. The employees grabbed their luggage and ran back to the ship with it. The family then ran to the ship, got on the ship and our cruise began. So I guess it is safe to say that sometimes, the ship does wait for late passengers. The ships horn woke up the kids so they came outside to watch the ship set sail.

The kids had a great time watching the policeman in the boat that was in the canal between our ship and another ship that was still docked. He was leading a cheering session between the ships. He would point to one ship and make a motion for them to cheer loudly, then he would motion to the other ship that it was their turn. He then played some dance music on his PA system and did a little dance. It was quite amusing and we laughed a lot. Our DS was impressed when a police boat stopped some jet skiers from getting too close to the ship. We stayed on our balcony until the ship reached the ocean.

We then got ready for dinner and went to dinner. We had any time dining. I think it was close to 7:00 when we went to eat. We did not have to wait for our table. I am sorry to say that I can't remember what we ordered for dinner other than everybody liked it. Service was a little slow but not too bad.

My DD and I left dinner before desert because we wanted to go to the Red Frog Pub to see what the adult trivia game was like. It was a lot of fun. The prize was a free tube of beer or a fish bowl to share with your teammates. Our team came in last place, we only got one question right. My DD daughter and I enjoyed it so much that we decided we would try to go every night. We never did make it back there.

We then went to see what was happening at Karaoke. There was a large group there. A couple was singing Sonny and Cher's "I Got You Babe". They were hilarious. We did not want to leave but we told the boys we would meet them for the invisible movie trivia. So we went to the ovation theatre to meet them. The trivia game was fun, but I really did not know any of the scenes. My DD and DS knew a few of them

After that the kids wanted to get a club O2 schedule. So we went to the club to get the schedule and there were already kids in the club. My kids were deeply engrossed in conversations with new friends so I told them to check in with me at midnight and left to find my DH at karaoke. The group of people that were there earlier had left and the other singers were not as fun. So we decided to go back to the room. On the way back to the room we walked by the Ocean Plaza and heard the band, # Rhythm Nation (?). The singing was fairly good, and the song choices they made were wonderful. We stayed and listened to them through their final set.

We went back to the room to look for the kids. You guessed it, no kids!! So I set out to track them down. Where does one start to look for 2 teenagers? Think pizza!! Yep I found them with their friends eating pizza. I explained to them both in a fairly loud voice how I expected them to follow instructions. I told them they could hang out with their friends but they had to be in the cabin by 2:00 a.m.

My husband and I ordered pizza, walked around the ship and then went back to the room around 1:30 a.m. The kids came in around 1:45 and we sat on the balcony until about 3:00 a.m. and then went to bed.

I read on here that we should bring bungee cords to hold the cabin door open. I propped the door open and we fell asleep to the sound of waves. It was wonderful. We all slept soundly that night.

We are doing the 6 day Western Itinerary in march and I'm looking forward to the rest of your review!
