  1. Reading your post, I forgot that this was an option to us. I am thinking of taking the train from Charleston, SC to Miami. It would be the 97 Meteor. How does the dining car work? Did I read correctly that it is included in the fare? How are the restroom facilities? We would have to get on at 4:50a UGH, but napping the train will be ok. Anything you can tell me that would be great. I have only taken Amtrak from Mich to Chicago so haven't much experience.

Meals are only included if you take sleeping accomodations....I travelled Amtrak with my 5 year old daughter, as she could not travel by air, as she had a long going ear infection....We had the time of our live....we loved it....I had gotten a bedroom accomodation which has a sofa that converted to a bed...and an upper bunk...and i had a bathroom in the room itself...It included all of our meals....

  2. Has the Glory been refurbished? If so when? I am sailing her in September 2018...I have sailed carnival about 15 other times...the biggest ship i sailed was the Destiny (which is now the sunshine) and the Trimuph...the others were the smaller ships....when i was on the Triumph they had the deli, but the sandwichs were not premade....you could acually see them cutting the meat, and you had several choices of sandwiches....

  3. See i am different....I cruise avidly....and have been put at dining tables with other people...but all tables that i have been put at, i was filling up that one spot at the dinner table...or i was sat at a table with a family group...and being ignored....or sat at a college group...which was not my cup of tea...after all the cruising i do, i deceided, that i was going to do my time dining....and just ask for a table for myself...I find i feel more comfortable...i get waited on fast....and much more, i am in and out of the dining room faster, to make all the shows that i want to see..

I know most passengers prefer the traditional dining, dining with other passengers, but i prefer to dine the way i like to...I also do the buffet, and the specialty dining as well...and i enjoy myself just like other fellow passengers do....I by no means am an introfert...I join in all activityies, dance classes, bingo, deck parties, formal nights etc...I just prefer dining by myself..

  4. Hi Catherine,

Welcome! I hope you have a great time on your cruise, my mother and her lady friend are sailing on that ship in January :)

Have you considered joining your Roll Call? You may find other solo cruisers in that thread as well.

Yes a Roll Call has already been started.....I would say for now, there are only a few people on it, but as months fly by, i am pretty sure other people with join...I also put an event page on FB...so far, no one has joined... hopefully it will liven up...I am so excited about this trip, as i do live in New York, so it is very easy for me to get there....I plan on taking Princess transfer to the ship...and just have to purchase a one way ticket home...

  5. You will have to check onboard, as some have reported having to use two punches for the largest sizes of coffee.

I was on the Serenade of the Seas...I did purchase the coffee card......for regular coffee (small) is one punch...a medium was (two punches along with if you order a specialty coffee) the pastries and cakes were free... I was on an eleven day cruise....and i used up the entire coffee card...but to me it was worth it...as the dining room coffee i did not like....

  6. Hi i just booked the Harmony of the Seas for September 1, 2019 last night...I am in cabin 4672....I have a question though, as i see that the Jogging Track is on this floor outside....Did you enounter any noises from people outside? Also i noticed that the casino is on this floor as well...when you went to your cabin, was there a door that you entered that separated the casino from the studio cabins? I know that i am going to like the cabin, as i sailed the Serenade of the Seas in their studio cabins, and they were lovely....more than enough room for a single person.

  7. I am in a 1A Category Cabin 7345 on the Glory....Has anyone stayed in this cabin...it is on the Empress Deck? Again many other people have asked the same question, but are there two twin beds in this cabin, or is it one twin bed...and and an upper bunk in the room.... I have been reading convlicting stories...

  8. Room 1040 is not a handicapped room according to plans on another site. And it does not look like the interior rooms that are handicapped are equipped to handle 3 people unless it is maybe room 1001 on the front of the ship. It has a sofa and king bed with handicapped bathroom. The best thing to do is call Carnival in the morning and ask to speak to the Special Needs department. They are really great about helping you organize what you will need.

Yes call Carnival up about the assessible cabin...as my friends who are handicapped booked on the Paradise, and was told the certain cabin was handicapped assessible, and it was not...and for three people in that cabin, did not work out for us at all...so better be safe, and call Special Needs Department..

  9. to the OP, do not book a solo room.!!!!! I did and I got a hard thin 3/4 bed and my room was on a corner hallway with another room sharing same entrance area.

Noisy slamming of the other door for which it was a balcony.

You will do better to just get an interior with virtual balcony.

Solo rooms on RCI are a bit of a joke. They have removed then from Symphony as I was changed to another room for next year. Lucky I got a nice oceanview since I had an oceanview studio. Now it explains why the pricing for Symphony that start last Spring was so way way high for these solo rooms. I think they knew that the possibility of removal was pending and wanted to discourage folks. So only Harmony for Oasis class has a few and really down low near public rooms. Even on Radiance class they only stuck a few on level 4 near dining areas.

NCL is only cruise line that does justice to Solo Studio rooms.

Also, It really is a good idea to reserve shows and some restaurants since the whole ship can't show up at the same time.

I suggest to pick 2-3 nights to do reserved stuff and then wing it the rest of the time.

And I went on Northstar a lot by just doing the stand by line.

I am booked on the Anthem for March 2019, in a solo balcony cabin....It says that the bed is a double bed in the room....My friend just got off Anthem and she verified that the bed in the cabin is a double....I dont understand that you are saying bed is 3/4 bed...she even sailed in a solo virtual cabin and her bed was a double....maybe you are thinking of the cabins that are on the Brillance Serenade and Adventurer...I know for a fact that the Brillance and Serenade had 3/4 single beds.....as i sailed both of those ships...

  10. The OPs question was specifically about ordering items and having them scheduled to be delivered on the first NIGHT in port -once the ship leaves and is out to sea. You can choose what time of the day/week you want things delivered. Once the ship leaves port, any orders scheduled to be delivered while at sea do not get charged tax.

I only purchase my items on line yesterday...can i go back online and change when i want the items delivered, or is it too late?

  11. $ 75 think that is a typo you mean 35.

OP they do tell us that included in the $ 35 is the tip however they will never tell us how much of a tip is included.

There have been all sorts of threads on this as to how much of a tip but basically we have taken the position that we have tipped the waiter but if service is exemplary we will add something to the bill.

    Do as you feel comfortable.

When i sail i always eat in the specialty restaurants....The tip is already included in the price of the dinner...I do not tip anything extra....

  12. Hopefully you have this resolved by now but if not.... I had the same thing happen once. Don't recall which ship but think I ended up talking to the people in the little shop that handles flowers' date=' candy etc. and it was corrected pretty quickly, I would call guest services and if they can't take care of it, they should be able to direct you to the correct dept. Enjoy your cruise!!! :)[/quote']

This happened to me this past March on RCCL Serenade of the Seas...I had ordered on line a 12 pack of Coke....when i arrived at my cabin day of sailing it was not there....I had went to Guest Services with my confirmation showing i purchased a 12 pack of coke online before cruise....they looked into the matter...and told me that it is not showing that i purchased the item...I presented her with my confirmation to show that i did...she then called main office...and told me i had to wait till they heard back, they i had purchased the soda...said i should wait till next morning...they called me up telling me that my credit card never went through their system for the item...so as a good justure, they sent to me a six pack of coke...when i got home and got my credit card statement....sure enough the 12 pack of coke that i had ordered was on the statement....quickly i called both RCCL and my credit card up...and the money was credited back to my account....so if i was you i would be stern about buying the item...show your confirmation....and that is proof that you bought the item online...dont let them tell you that your credit card never went through because that is BS

  13. Hello Cruise Critics -

When you place an order from the fun shops for alcohol and request delivery for the first night (after leaving port) is sales tax and / or gratuity charged? Thanks for any info in advance...

Yes there is tax on the order....I had ordered online 2 4 packs of beer @$24 a 4 pack and was charged $5.36 tax on the two packs of beer...same with the soda...i ordered 2 six packs of coke...was charged tax on those also...and i dont understand...as i was on RCCL and ordered soda online, and i was not charged any tax...

  14. And that is why i like to dine alone....Every time that i have taken a cruise, i was always put at a large table, being that i was sailing solo....and it always seemed that i was the one to fill up the table...and all tablemates were either younger than i, or it was a basically a family table, and as i said i was the one filling the table up....Some would look at me, as if to say, i didn't belong, and just didn't let me join in on their conversation....enough was enough...I pay good money to go on vacation, and i dont feel like dining with people, that make me feel uncomfortable....So i chose to dine alone...and i am out of the dining room earlier....and can go and get a good seat at the show....

  15. Cruise Raider....I am taking the Regal Princess out of Red Hook next november...I booked the trip and bought the transfer from Princess...I questioned about Flight as i have no Flt #, but she told me she will put in my name, without no Flt # being as i am from the NY area....my question to you is, when you went to baggage claim, did you have a problem getting in the doors from baggage claim? I will get down there by 10am... i am taking a taxi from my home to JFK...was told to meet at Jet Blue in Baggage Claim Area...and that buses start leaving at 12 noon...

  16. I have sailed on the Sea Princess, Dawn Princess, and the Sea Princess when they use to be in Port Everglades, and they did the balloon drop on Caribbean Night outside at the pool deck....it was a caribbean party with dancing, all the trimmings, and at the strike of 12 midnight they had the balloon drop...It sort of was like a big NYE Party....I use to look forward to this on every Princess Cruise....I will be going on the Regal Princess on November 1, 2018...and hoping that there will be another balloon drop....another thing i did enjoy was the Champayne Waterfall....to me that was the highlight of the cruise.....Very different from all the other cruise lines...

  17. Hi i am on the Regal Princess Cruise November 1, 2018...Joined the roll call...but not too much happening on there as yet....but a couple of years ago i took a caribbean cruise out of NYC on NCL Gem on an 11 night caribbean cruise....and yes the first two days were chilly...on the second day in the afternoon, it did start warming up where people were out playing shuffle board or sitting in a lounge chair...first day at sea, though, was very chilly and windy...rough seas first day also...second day it calmed down....after that was warm weather...coming home, we didn't hit chilly weather until the last sea day....

Hope that the roll call starts getting some more people...this is my 4th Princess Cruise, but first Princess Cruise out of the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal. Will there be people taking the Princess Transfer from the Jet Blue baggage claim on November 1st?

  18. ok i am taking the Regal Princess on November 1, 2018....It is departing from NYC at the Brooklyn Terminal...I bought the Princess Transfer from JFK airport to the cruise terminal...I am not flying in from anywhere, as i live on Long Island...I am going to be taking super shuttle into the airport at baggage claim...as that is where i was told to me the Princess Rep at Jet Blue....Will there be a problem when i enter baggage claim with my luggage, or i just show my paperwork that i am sailing with Princess...Also do you think taking a taxi would be a wiser choice, than taking super shuttle?

  19. You dont get your full refund on a cruise if you are planning to cancel....I got in on the deposit of $100, and deceided to cancel, as i could not find airfare out of Galveston, Texas...when i cancelled, all i got back from the deposit was $49...which can be applied to another cruise...At first i was just going to let the $49 ride, but then i rebooked on the Carnival Glory...for September 2018.... My advice is if you are planning a cruise with Carnival, before you put down the deposit, make sure of all the ins and outs before you give credit card....There are a few options when booking...but remember to ask about the non-refundable and refundable deposits.....Also RCCL is doing the non-refundable deposits as well...

  20. Hello Lucy.....I am going to be staying in cabin 7345 only on the Carnival Glory.....will the cabin be arranged the same as on the splendor...it is a category 1a....I am also on the Empress Deck...and i was undeceided when booking what cabin to take..i was torn between cabin 6227 which is a sideways cabin, or 7345 which looks designed as a regular cabin entranceway wise, which i liked better and it is more mid ship on the Empress deck.... One question was there just a twin bed with an upper bunk, or were there two twin beds in the room?

Would appreciate a response ..... thanks alot..

    Cathy
