  3. Thank you for the review. I was on Allure on the Feb 9 sailing and had similar issues.

The new towel policy is a bit of a disaster, you described very well why. In Labadee at 11am, there were no more beach towels available (nowhere!).

Wait-staff was not very friendly or outgoing. During breakfast in the MDR, we had downright rude waiters several mornings.

We also had reservations every night for My Time Dining and had to wait for at least 15 minutes with many other people in front of the dining room.

The freestyle-coke-machines were broken so often, sometimes I had to check 3 different locations and was still without my powerade zero.

The bartender at the Solarium-Bar told us on embarkation-day: "What, you bought the Select Package? You absolutely have to upgrade otherwise you will only be drinking bad wine on this cruise!" Well, we informed her then, that we just spent one week on Oasis with that package and were happy with it.

Overall we were surprised about the HUGE difference to Oasis. One week before our Allure cruise, we were on Oasis and everybody was so friendly and in a good mood. Everything was well maintained and organized. It was just perfect and we kind of expected the same on Allure. Sadly, that was not so.

  4. It is outside, but Deck 17 bar is a "cigar lounge" at night.

Yes, and very often it is so windy up there that it's not really possible to light a cigar or a cigarette. Especially when the bartender does not want you to smoke at the bar but only around the corner where the wind is blowing....

  5. While I found it more convenient to not have to sign out towels, I saw people on Indy grabbing 4-6 at a time--per person!

Certainly makes it easier for the chair hogs to save 6-8 chairs at a time, where before they would have been limited to 2! :D

And, while I returned my towels to the station every day, I did notice a lot of people just leaving them on the chairs--even saw a few in some of the indoor venues. Would not be surprised if this led to the occasional towel shortage, not to mention the staff having to scout around and pick up towels.

That was exactly our experience on the Allure sailing Feb 9, 2014. We went on a excursion in Labadee at 11 am and all towel-stations were out of towels. Great if you have to go to the Sandbar-Getaway without a towel...

For me it was never a problem on cruises before to have the 2-towels-per-person policy with scanning my seapass. You let them scan your seapass the first day and then only exchange used towels with fresh ones, no big deal!

  6. Just off the Allure (Feb 9 sailing) and bought the unlimited WiFi-package. Just be aware that it's VERY slow. "Quickly" check your e-mails? Forget it :D. I was actually very surprised that it was that slow. The week before we were on Oasis and it was just fine there...

  7. One year ago, for our first cruise on Oasis we also booked the Central-Park package because I was worried about the quality of the food in the MDR. DH and I were honestly surprised how much we liked the food in the MDR. We actually loved it so much that we did not book any specialty restaurants for our last cruise on Liberty. And again, we were not disappointed.

For sure, you can't compare dinner 150 Central Park with MDR, but I expect good food during my vacation and I got good food almost everywhere on Oasis (ok, never went to Windjammer, don't know about that).

  8. As an FYI RCI welcomes kids in most of their specialty restaurants all the time.

Q: Are children allowed to dine in our Specialty Restaurants?

A: Children with a parent or guardian are welcome in our specialty restaurants throughout serving hours. The only exceptions are Chef's Table which requires all guests to be 21 years of age or older, and 150 Central Park which requires families with children under 13 years of age to dine before 7 p.m. Reservations can be made online or onboard at the restaurant based on availability.

Well, we had a screaming toddler in 150 CP at 8pm last November and it was NOT funny!!

  9. I recently asked why some of you favored Royal as one of your favorite cruise lines, and the answers were very engaging. While still keeping it's unique experience, in what ways could RCL improve?

We haven't sailed on Royal Caribbean yet, and don't know any criticisms other than devotees of other lines who are looking for a different experience altogether. Our first sailing is in 3 months!!!

In my opinion, they could improve with enforcing their own rules. Like keeping adult-only-areas on the ship child-free, no kids in specialty restaurants after 7pm, taking towels and belongings to towel-stations after 30 minutes etc.

But honestly, not much else comes to my mind, I love to cruise with RCCL.

  10. My thoughts precisely,,,,although my immediate ones were more '' unquotable'' after I received the same missive as an agent.

While it's obvious all travel professionals are shopping around to find suitable replacement options for their clients in such circumstances, including sailings on competitors lines, it's the first time I've witnessed a competing line go this direct ,in the open.

I suggest this might be against ''the unwritten code '' among all lines part of CLIA , specially the larger ones ,all operating in the same market areas, similar fleet and, frankly, and interest common enough to warrant the above-mentionned '' unwritten code ''.

The word ''piracy'' came to mind for a fleeting moment.

    again; my opinion only

    Cheers

Exactly my thoughts! I used to work in the tour-operator business and this is a big no-no! That would be reason enough never to book a NCL cruise!

  11.

During the reservation process when we have to make our dining selection, why don't they just ask if being seated with strangers is acceptable. Obviously some people love to meet new people so why not give everyone the choice instead of taking it away completely.

Just reserved our MTD-Schedule online for our next cruises on Oasis and Allure. They actually DO ask you now if you prefer to dine alone or share the table with other people. So you can choose now! :)

As DH and I do most things on vacations together, also breakfast and lunch, we are happy to meet new people during dinner. We've made some great friends on Oasis as well as on Liberty. On Liberty, we cruised with another couple but still decided to share a big table with others. We had a blast! In a whole week, we only had one evening where one couple was a bit weird, all other nights we had nice and friendly people sitting with us.

All in all, I would say that if you meet new people at dinner every night for a whole week and think they are all awful, it's probably you! :D

  12. I'm just back from Vegas. DH and I are only C&A Gold Members (2 cruises with RCCL so far) and we printed out a screen-shot of our status before we left for Vegas. We had a reservation at the MGM and presented the screen-shots during check-in. The lady behind the counter excused herself, disappeared, came back with a big smile and said: "The manager just gave you a $150.- resort-credit!":D

We got our M-Life cards and booked all our food and drinks on the room. After three nights we checked out and the guy at the check-out desk said that we used the $150.- credit up but he would also deduct the resort fee for all three nights (another $75.-!!!).

As we were on a motorbike trip and after a few days on the road came back to Vegas twice, we could earn quite some points on our M-Life cards. Because of the Shutdown, we had to book an additional night at the MGM (prebooked all other nights but had to cancel a trip to Bryce Canyon). MGM gave us a 50% discount on the room-rate and cancelled again the resort-fee. :)

All in all we spent 8 nights at the MGM and jumped up one tier from Saphire to Pearl. Now I wonder what benefits I can get with that on my next cruise? Any ideas?
