  1. When we boarded in New York on September 5th they told us rooms would be ready at 1:30. I told him we were platinum (even tho he had just looked at our boarding passes and was letting us into the priority area). I told him we could get into our cabins when we boarded and he said something like "oh, okay". Our rooms were ready, keys in the mailbox. We were among the first to board and I think it was 11:45.

I thought he just made a mistake and was telling us what he told most of the other passengers. Now it sounds like something they are telling everyone in all the ports. As others have mentioned, I hope this isn't a sign of something to come.

  2. Some of the reasons we usually pick Carnival

    • Value for the money is better than the other lines. Included food is on a par with what we experienced on NCL, RCCI, Disney and the price is better. OUR opinion of course.
    • The crew members are always friendly and interesting
    • The other passengers are great. They are down-to-earth and aren't so full of themselves that they think they are better than everyone else. Most of them anyway. Of course, there are a few passengers that think the other passengers are "less than desirable". We avoid that type: the I-am-better-than-everyone-else-even-if-I-am-on-the-same-ship-and-paid-the-same-price type. There are very few of those on Carnival (lots on Celebrity).

  3. We found 12-oz cans of Monster on Amazon. If he likes the few kinds they have that would solve the problem. While it seems logical that you are taking the same number of ounces, you might have it taken away (and not returned). Sometimes they don't even look but one cruise (Ft Lauderdale) the woman tried to tell us we couldn't bring bring our 12-oz Monsters. I guess she had been told NO MONSTERS because 99% of them are 16 oz. She went off to get a supervisor but meanwhile another guy who saw the whole thing laughed and waved us through.

I would not chance it with the 16oz unless you can't find another brand (rock star?) or the 12oz monsters. But of course you can try.

  4. We are considering a river cruise and just starting to look. I wasn't considering Vikings Air because I figured they would pick the cheapest ... meaning we would have a couple connections and middle seats not together.

Are you saying that we can pay $50 (if the option is available) and then tell them what flight we want?

And after it is booked we can pick our own seats (with a seat fee I assume - but that's okay)

And one more question .... everyone on this thread seems to use a TA? Do they get you better rates? Or what is the reason for not booking directly with Viking?

  5. I am not ridiculous or sad either. Sometimes we get off in repeat ports and sometimes we don't. We enjoy the cruising experience and talking to so many different people from other countries

I love cruising to relax and get a taste of the islands. To get an "extensive" travel experience requires a lot more time than a few hours in a port and I've vacationed for weeks in Greece, Russia, Germany, Spain, Hawaii, more of europe and 1/2 the states so maybe I'm not ridiculous after all

  6. On 30+ cruises I've never been in an elevator where kids pushed all the buttons. Just lucky I guess and for the last 12 years I've cruised only prime-kid times. BUT - it seems that if kids are pushing buttons it could be worse with this new system. Couldn't they just push the button for each floor and any number of people? The elevators wouldn't stop on every floor but every elevator would head for the floor where they did this. Or am I missing something? I only ask because so many people mention kids pushing all buttons as a good reason for this new system. IF that is really a problem I don't think this solves it.

  7. We took an upgrade to expended balcony on a cruise last year and are now spoiled. On our Pride cruise this year we booked the extended. It is such a great option for not a whole lot more money. We were on deck 7. I don't even remember the life boats below so they obviously didn't both me. But I DO remember not have to practically climb over each other on the balcony. So easy to walk around and lots of space for both of us.

  8. Looking at videos of the rooms it looks like Horizon has 2 outlets and 2 USB ports on the desk. Can someone who sailed the Horizon confirm and let me know if that is in all rooms. What room type did you have?

Would be great to leave the powerstrip home. We don't need a lot but one just didn't do it.

  9. Pride First week of April 2018 Serenity

We were sitting in the shaded chairs on the Serenity deck one morning. There was ONE woman sitting in a cabana and apparently had "reserved" another cabana and 4 loungers. A carnival employee came by to put stickers on the 4 EMPTY loungers. She came flying out of the cabana yelling "they are having breakfast. they are having breakfast". We had been sitting there 1/2 an hour when this happened - who knows how long she was hogging before that.

She immediately took all the stickers off the loungers and sat in a middle one - thus guarding the 4 loungers and 2 EMPTY cabanas. We didn't do anything because we were happy where we were sitting - reading and listening to music and watching this "show". After another hour or so she saw 2 woman looking around and graciously offered them two of HER loungers.

Eventually (more than 2 hours after this show began) ONE person in her group showed up and sat in one of the cabanas.

Lady - if you are reading this and really thought you were being gracious to give up 2 of YOUR loungers you were just obnoxious and everyone watching agreed!! Those were NOT YOUR LOUNGERS.

  10. Hoping someone who has been on the Horizon can answer how YTD is different on this ship

    • Where on deck 5 do you go to sign in?
    • Does everyone have to go to deck 5 or can we just send one person there while the rest of us wait by the restaurant?
    • I heard we may be able to sign in using the Hub. Is that working yet?
    • On one of the YTD threads someone mentioned a special door (or line) for Platinum/Diamond so you didn't have to go to deck 5 but that's the only time I saw anything about that. Does anyone know?

  11. Drinks may be cheaper on the ship. That's not the point and not what i asked. . Overpriced - yes. But 18-21 can drink in bahamas and they can't on the ship. Does anyone have experience about WHAT time they might open?

  12. If there is NO line there are no line cutters!

On a cruise 2 years ago we arrived at the platinum lounge early, took our seats near the front, keeping our suitcases clear of the door so people could get in. Then our boys (16) went out for a last bathroom stop (or maybe track down "the cute girl"). When we got up to leave one woman start screaming at me for cutting in front of her. Screaming and screaming. Trying as many of you suggested to shame me. I guess she didn't realize we had been there long before her. It was just the boys that came back after she arrived.

AGAIN - with no line it is nearly impossible to know when each person arrived in the room. AND, I think people should be able to make a bathroom run!!!

  13. Does anyone know what time they open. I looked online at Senior Frog sites and one says 10:00, the other 12:00. We are only in Freeport until 1:00 (probably 12:30 back on board). Would like to try Senior Frogs for an hour or so but 12:00 opening would be too late.
