  1. I'm happy to be corrected but I thought that from April all tourist Visas for Turkey, for visitors from the uk had to be applied for on line at a cost of £10. It could be there are arrangements for a cash payment for those not in the know I suppose.

Last year the cost for our E-visas was $20 each. It worked out at £13 each, but the exchange rates this year could well be better. Don't know why it's done in US dollars but hey-ho. I understand that you can still get your visas on arrival but they have put the cost up to £20 each.

  2. I booked our cabin today and received the number in the payment confirmation email.:)

When I can figure out how to print it :o, or the section containing the number, it was a VERY long email, I will be sorted.

    Perhaps Thomsons are listening.

I phoned to book our cabin last October and received a Cruise Booking Amendment email the same day. It was a five page email and the cabin number was on page four.

  3. But if its an e-visa, surely the e stands for electronic, and therefore a printer is not required?

Same with e-tickets, can't understand why people feel the need to print them off?

We had to show our printed evisas at passport control upon entry at Dalaman airport.

However, when we checked in at Newcastle, we were only asked for our passports. I asked if they wanted our e-tickets and was told they didn't need them. -----Confusing or what???

  4. Last year when the balance was due I rang the sales line and explained to the person answering the phone that I could not understand the accents when I rung india and they could not understand me. I have a very broad accent, he took my money!!!

Oooo Tina, what a good idea. I had the same experience when phoning to pay the balance of our deposits. I think they have a list of things to go through. At least one of them we already had and no we did not require extra leg room seats just for a flight to Majorca. I might try the sales line when we have to pay the balance.

  5. Unfortunately didn't work for me either!

I want to pay my balance and really object to the premium rate phone numbers

I can't understand why payments can't be taken on line for a cruise when they can for a holiday. It doesn't make sense. Or, perhaps being the cynic I am, it's all to do with selling extras that you don't need or want. I'm sure it wasn't a UK call centre either.

  6. Just watching the coverage on the BBC. My first thought is that the friends and family of those fabulous crew members who make my holiday such a joy should not meet such a fate. My next thought is that nobody's loved ones should meet such a fate. I am no fan of the Government but I am glad that they are giving £10m of aid to help. Now it's my turn. I am off to find a charity appeal to make a donation. If I can afford to go on cruises I can afford to make a donation.

We will be making our donation today too and hope that all who have cruised with these lovely people as crew, will do so too.

Just been watching the latest pictures. It looks worse every day.

  7. OK then, here goes.

Can the Thomson Team please make sure that the following message is passed on to all the Filipino crew on all Thomson cruise ships:-

"After hearing the news of typhoon in the Philippines, we send our thoughts and prayers to you and all your families at home. Know that the guests who sail with you are thinking of you."

I do hope that this is the right message to send.

  8. It would be really nice to get a message to all who are affected.

We were on Celebration in September for our first ever cruise and found all the crew wonderful. Met quite a few from the Philippines. Can't begin to understand what they are going through, not knowing if their families are safe.

Tori, I am sure, others, like Kalos and Jakanne, who have sailed with Thomson much more than us, would also like to send a message of support and to let them know that our thoughts are with them and their families.

  9. Well a lady in the queue in front of me was told her hand luggage allowance was only 5KG - I protested on her behalf but they weren't having any of it. She opened her big cases and put some stuff in there and managed to avoid an xs baggage charge. I wouldn't have backed down on that one!!!

I wrote to the airport afterwards to make the point but was told I was wrong! I wrote back with the section copied from the brochure stating 7KG for cruise passengers unlike the normal 5Kg for other Thomson holidays. They hadn't the courtesy to reply to that. I did point out they had some staff training issues to address. Now whether that was down to the airport or Thomson I'm not sure but I now tear out the appropriate page out of the brochure and take it with me if my ticket doesn't specify 7KG.

Again, communications, admin and training issues giving Thomson bad P.R.

I always take booking confirmation including hold and hand luggage allowance to check-in. I have it to hand in case we are challenged on anything. Always have luggage scales with me too. I have known people being charged for overweight luggage when they say they weighed cases at home.
