  1. I have had the pleasure of cruising in October when there was a Hurricane in the waters. For a couple of days the water was a bit rough but it did not slow anyone's fun. The Captain navigated well around any dangers so we had a sun filled nice cruise. October is my favorite time to vacation in the Caribbean.

  2. I have been on the Glory for 5-7 day cruises. While I have seen rude guest it did not ruin my trip. The one instance that some guest were out of hand I notified a ships officer and it was dealt with immediately. Carnival cruises are inexpensive comparatively so you will get more of an unruly element. This has never ruined my vacation. I don't care what the name of my cabin steward is and if I need him I call him on the phone and he's right there. I can get my own ice is necessary. Slow service, then get in contact with the Maître d (which I have done and my service got much better). If guest is rude to crew or throwing food on the floor then just say something to them or a ships officer. I'll bet they stop. I never let the behavior of someone else determine my vacation and I never accept poor service.

  3. So sorry to hear you did not enjoy cruise. What a bummer!

Our daughter will be sailing the Glory in a few weeks. She is having trouble trying to find out if the ship stays on Miami (EDT) or if the ship changes to Island time at each port. She has called Carnival and received different answers. Can you, or anybody, tell me how the ship handled the time?

I have been on the Glory twice. They change times depending on where they are. They will give fair warning to everyone. Depending on what you are expecting will dictate whether you have a great time or not. We went onboard to rest and relax and that is what we did. We had a good time. I would suggest flex dining so you can meet different people. Also, I enjoyed the breakfast in the dining room more than the buffet. Shows are shorter and the wait staff at the main dining room are fewer so expect the service level to go down. I still think it is a good ship with a good crew.

  4. I am just a lowly Gold level C&A member (this will be just our third on RCI), so figured I would probably be ignored with any problem or request I sent to Royal.

First, I sent an email to customer service due to a problem with my online account (not showing my reservation). Received email back the next day saying I must call C&A. I thought," oh boy, here we go with no help!". I dialed the number, selected the option, got the recorded "que", turned on the phone speaker and laid it down since I figured I would be holding a while. What? I didn't even have time to lay the phone down completely before I had a rep on the line. I must say this young lady I spoke with was of utmost politeness, walked me through the problem, and I was off the phone in a matter of 5 minutes, after she confirmed there was nothing else with which I needed her assistance.

Secondly, just a couple of days ago I sent an email to dining requesting a special table assignment. Knowing I only carry a lowly "gold" status, and seeing some other posts, I felt certain I would never hear back. Well, low and behold, I opened my email this morning to find not only a response from my email but also a confirmed table assignment per my request!

I know there have been a lot of posts critical of customer support recently (and yes, I'm sure some legitimate ones), but I must say that I was quite impressed with the response and service I received.

We will be leaving in 9 days on the Serenade (our second time on her). I've seen a lot of negative publicity recently about the Serenade, but we thoroughly enjoyed our cruise last year and look forward to yet another great experience this time!

Thanks again, Royal, for the great customer service I received!

I think it is great that you got the service you needed. I dont understand what the gold status has to do with the service. Everyone should get good service or the line risks not getting return customers.

  5. I understand what we feel is the proper response when in the US. The lifeguard is in another country abiding by the rules and regulations given by his authority (who ever they are). I was in Jamiaca and watched another person die because of the way their emergency medical system was structured. There was an American Nurse present and attempting to help but she was not able to bring her full knowledge and skills to this persons aid because of the structure. In the US this person would have easily survived given the skills she had.

  6. I assume OP cares about the safety of his child...

While all of the comments are valid I would guess the requirement is driven by insurance reasons. IMHO the pullmann is a bunkbed and you assume any risk associated with the sleeping arrangement, at home or at sea. Also, as with any parent we do what we feel is best for our situation and child.

  7. I would never set foot in a foreign country without having my Passport, a credit card and some cash. We leave our Passport Cards on the ship. If we miss the boat we can fly to the next port or fly home. If we lose our Passport in a port of call we can reenter the U.S. from a cruise ship with a Passport Card. All bases covered and less risk of a nightmare.

I agree. While in the states I don't go anywhere without my drivers license. It is my ID should something happen.
