  1. I do love cheesey grits! But I do have two questions about breakfast, in-room options etc.
We will be on the Viking Venus British Isles cruise in a PV1 cabin. My understanding from all you've written above is there will be a coffee maker in our cabin? Will it have decaf? And if so, will the decaf option be similar to a dark roast? Is it the kind of coffee maker with "pouches" that you put in the maker or does it have the little "cups/containers" like a Nespresso machine?

Second question....where would I get the pistachio rolls I've read about in other posts? Anyone had those? I'd get one of those the day before and have in my room for the AM with coffee, if that's possible.

  2. To get back to the original question about what's in the minifridge, we're in a PV1 cabin. I understand there will be softdrinks and alcoholic beverages in the fridge? Is it possible to request white wine in the fridge? Or is the fridge too small and there aren't any small bottles of white wine?

  3. When excursions open to me, is it best to pick the excursion, put it in your cart, book another excursion and put that one in your cart etc..until you have all your chosen excursions in your cart, and then pay for them all at once

    OR

pay for them as you go along? Pay for each one as you choose them?

  4. Okay - using Vy to reserve train tickets from Bergen to Oslo. Thanks for all your assistance!

Next question: we disembark the morning of May 13, Saturday, in Bergen from Viking Venus. We have our Bergen hotel reservation at Hotel 13. Can anyone tell me where the ship docks in Bergen? Does the dock provide a shuttle in to the center of town? Are there taxis? I think we have to be off the ship by 8 AM?
We'll leave our luggage at hotel and then enjoy Bergen....but trying to figure out how we'll get from ship to hotel. We'll travel light with two rollerboards. Anyone done this before or have suggestions?

  5. We’re doing the April 29 London (Tilbury) to Bergen.
As of yesterday, all the shore excursions disappeared from My Viking Journey! We’d been looking at them, ordering them in preference for when we can reserve them, and then poof! They’re gone! Still this morning, there are no shore excursions on My Viking Journey when I log in to this cruise. Anyone else have that happening or know why?

  6. If you have a Viking excursion in Shetland and they don’t dock there,

*do they refund your $ to onboard credits if you booked with money you had on account in on board credit (IE extra money left over from future cruise credits used to book this cruise) OR

    * if you paid for the Viking excursion by credit card, do they refund your credit card or put it into on board credit you have to use on this cruise?

If you have to use on board credit on this cruise, what can you spend it on?

sorry you didn’t get to dock in Shetland - sounds like an interesting place and Viking lists some interesting excursions there. Did they give a reason why you couldn’t stop there?

we do this cruise in April 2023.

  7. Twitchly:  The info about Edinburgh and Orkneys is VERY helpful!   Thanks so much!  Really appreciate your comments on all the ports...very helpful in our planning for when we do this in April 2023. So sorry about your knee...that is a real bummer but as you say, nice you're on a beautiful ship!

Have never done a Viking ocean cruise....have done 16 with Celebrity. Can you tell me how the dining works? I know we get to make reservations XX days out from our cruise (we'll be in a PV1). Is the World Cafe the place you eat if you don't have a reservation? And all the others need a reservation? We're late eaters...do many people make reservations, for example, for 8:50 PM?

    TRULY appreciate your insights here!

  8. Thank you Twitchly!

RE the train from Bergen to Oslo:  I am reading from many folks to avoid booking tickets with Rail Ninja. Yet when I go to the Norway train site, and lock in my dates (granted - not until May 2023) it flips me immediately to the Rail Ninja site. It appears that's the only way I can reserve tickets?

Anyone have experience booking train tickets from Bergen to Oslo online? With Rail Ninja?

Or will tickets be released on the train company's site itself 90 days prior to the date we want?

Any assistance or enlightenment would be most appreciated!

  9. Fabulous information here - thank you all!

we’re sailing London (Tilbury) to Bergen April 29 - May 13. Cruise ends with two days in Bergen. We are contemplating taking the train from Bergen to Oslo. A few questions - if anyone can answer:

    1) how early can we disembark in Bergen on that second and last day? Contemplating a train that leaves about 8:30 AM. Could we make it?

    2) one site about train warns to get window with full view, I believe on right side? In business/1st class train seat, you get an assigned seat? Anyway to insure we get a “good” seat? Anyone that’s done this train ride who can give info?

    thanks in advance!

So, why is it only UPPER level suites are tagged priority.  I'm traveling in a Sky Suite in September, so that means I have no priority?  If so, wow.

Sky suites also have priority boarding etc.  We will be on the Apex for Norwegian Fjords, Aug 13 - 20 and then, back-to-back to Best of Scandinavia Aug 20 to Sept 1. We've done Sky Suite before and always have priority boarding, disembarking, etc.

  11. Excellent!  Thank you so much. Am much relieved. We're in the corner aft cabin for back-to-backs on Apex that start with the Norwegian Fjords. Have done the Norwegian Fjords a number of years ago with Celebrity and put it on our list to do again. The aft cabin was fabulous to see the fjords going in and coming out of the Norwegian towns. I am smitten with Norway!

  12. We are booked on Apex (which is the same as Edge) aft Sky Suite 11269.  I notice on the deck plan it has a dark line "connecting" it to 11271. I believe 11271 is a sunset veranda. Does anyone know where the "connecting door" is between 11269 and 11271? We're traveling by ourselves so have no idea who will be in 11271. Just concerned if the connecting door is actually inside our cabin? Anyone sailed in 11269 on Edge or Apex who can answer?

  13. I bought a Dale of Norway sweater in May 2017 on our Norwegian Fjords cruise with Celebrity. LOVE the sweater. Worth every penny. Most shops who feature Dale of Norway have many styles to choose from.  We loved that cruise so much, we are doing the Norwegian Fjords again on Celebrity's Apex in August 2022!

  14. Great swap on our August 20th Apex Russia/Scandinavia cruise!! No more Russia. Instead, an extra day in Stockholm and a stop in Visby, Sweden which is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Thank you Celebrity for “getting your ducks in order” before making a knee jerk reaction.
My prayers are for any Celebrity crew from or with family in Ukraine. I knew Celebrity would never put $ into Russia given this horrific unprovoked war.

  15. We will be on our first Viking river cruise (Alsvin) in a veranda suite

We have $450 onboard credit from our travel agent.

Can we use the $450 onboard credit to pay for drinks?
Upgraded glass of wine at dinner; bloody Mary in morning; glass of wine in evening on deck?
