  1. I'll be emerald after upcoming cruise and have been hell bent on getting to Diamond. But the more I think about it, really.. whats the point? The drinks are a great benefit but I always buy the drink package so that negates any benefit there. I once ducked a rope (on accident?) and boarded with the Diamond +'s and that was pretty sweet. Still I think we boarded after the suite guests.

So I don't mean this in a negative way, I do want to get to Diamond, but what makes this level so special for people? From what I see priority boarding and free drinks. But if you're boarding after Suite guests and buying the drink package, is it just a status thing? More pull at guest services?

    Really just curious..

We are diamond and feel no more special with the "status" then we do on NCL is a lower status category. We never stay in the Diamond Lounge are we are usually younger then most of the couples and enjoy coming in, getting our drink(s) and going elsewhere anyway. Then later we settle in at a lounge and use our 3 vouchers with friends who have yet to obtain drinks status. Earlier boarding isn't special other then we get to eat, say 20 minutes before it gets too crowded. All in all, we are giving up caring what the status is cause it doesn't seem to special anymore and I've watched too many people try and use their status while making a ass of themselves.

  2. My brother did it two years ago land and sea and he said just not enough time to see what was there when you got to port. This is one trip on my bucket list but as he told me fly there rent a RV and take your time to see everything you want.

Your brother is a wise wise person. Exactly how Alaska is meant to be seen. Cruising just adds the water element up close if possible and enjoyable relaxation.

  3. My wife and I are newbies to cruising, 1st cruise next month, and neither of us are scared to death. Can you please show us where the reports are of newbies being scared to death ? I am not trying to be a smarta$$. I am just saying.

Years worth of discussion here on the boards of peoples interactions with others. As well, for many years, family, friends and those we don't know ask my husband or I at social gatherings why would we cruise when it's "so easy" to fall over board.

  4. You can pre book a clamshell at the ships excursion desk that will cover two full size loungers. This will allow you to disembark priority as it's considered a "excursion". When the attendant retrieves the clamshell for you to set up make sure it has the mesh fabric that allows it to breath so air can pass through or you will feel baked. Also if you don't want the ocean view to be instructed then have it placed as far forward as possible to the water so another one can't be placed in front of yours. Enjoy your day!!

  6. If anyone has rented the beach cabana at Royal Palms Beach Club I am interested to hear how you felt about it? Good wait staff service who allowed you to run the tab for the day after giving CC info?

  7. I echo what you said: Our experience: We too realized when booking a GTY cabin perks offered are voided. To qualify we had to purchase a NON GTY cabin which increased each persons cost a additional $200, plus the gratuities for both the drink package and food package. "FREE" meant another $650 we would pay. We kept our GTY, paid less and have been offered the same cabin category that we would of paid the additional $200 per person for. Thank you for posting this so all can really see if you choose this then you are paying for the "free" perks. The only way it would make sense is if your drank so much that your bar bill would be more then what you pay in gratuity plus all the additional perks if you intended to buy them as well.

  8. If you have any joint problems at all the seaweed wrap will eliminate the joint pain for up to 6 weeks. My husband floats back into the room after the wrap and has a very positive noticeable difference in his ability to walk without pain for several weeks. We have yet to find any spa on land remotely close to us that offers these wraps.

  9. The ship will never leave a passenger on an official shore excursion offered by the cruise line. For one the PR nightmare that would follow would cost them in the end and

the cruise line does not want to have to get you to the next port.

This is wrong information. My parents were part of a accident on a ship sponsored excursion and many were hospitalized hence they were left. You are lead to believe you won't be left but depending on many circumstances you can be left.

  10. Ok thanks for clarifying. I guess that leads me to my next question...

Does NCL offer any kind of cell phone package? Basically we are wanting to call our kids a few times while we are gone for 7 days.

Do you by chance have a Magic Jack phone number? If not, very low cost for 1 year and useful on land/sea. While using internet you can tap into the Magic Jack and make phone calls without charge.

  11. Shoretrips.com has humanitarian excursions where you can volunteer for a day or half-day. I believe the money that you pay for excursions goes to the charity, but not 100% sure. Btw, I'm not a travel agent, nor do I work for shore trips, but I had seen these excursions and am considering doing this with my teens as a teaching tool.

This is great information to know. Do they have documentation to show that the costs are getting into the proper hands? If so, where please? I always want to vet this type of thing and if it proves legit then I would do this in a heartbeat!

  12. Im so confused, why is that nobody care about donating money and time. RCL has allot of money there stock is over 120. They can easily make new ships, why can't they help out the islands. Why is RCL the only cruise liner that is going back now?

Do you know that money hasn't been used to help these islands by Royal? It takes the port authority to bring a ship in so if the port allows the ship in then they are ready and waiting for the influx of money to start the rebuilding process. Seems maybe if one feels so bad about what those on the island need then they can cancel their vacation and take funds and go help personally on the island. That would be a win-win.

The problem consists of limited choices, when no choice is the golden choice, you still have to make a choice and sometimes only time will tell if it's the right one.

  13. Possibly the drink package? They want sell the package to as many people as possible but once they do there is not incentive to spend money on product already paid for. Maybe most people staying up late at dance parties also have drink package. RCCL cuts costs related to entertainment, bar staff and alcohol inventory. They probably LIKE the 4 deep lines at Dazzles with 2 bartenders........ slows down product comsumption.

When everyone paid for drinks the old way..... RCCL had a financial incentive to get people dancing and buying drinks to increase profits. No more profits to deck parties......... cut it and see if still attract enough pax.

OK, now this is way to reasonable thinking!! You are the consultant they would eagerly pay 10K to save 100K..............
