wow.. that pic made my stomach lurch.
this is likely a stupid question but i feel it fits with this thread.. are sea's generally rougher during hurricane season ? or does the winter season have anything to do with that too?
i will be travelling out of new york in january and i imagine it won't be so great but I'm wondering for those who know, will it be quite choppy/rough or just cold?
-
i really wish i had known this before :(
we've already spent more than $600 in exchange charges... too bad NCL rep didn't mention this when i booked thru them. ah well, i know for next time and appreciate the info.

can someone please elaborate on this milk crate bed thingy? I'm so lost.

Been on the BA twice - a year ago and just last March. I purchased a spa pass each time. They were not for sale at the pier, but the spa was open when we boarded and DH and I went straight there to get me one. The spa is my "excursion" - I prefer it to anywhere in Orlando or Nassau.
Obviously, I love the BA spa. Yes, it can be noisy, but there were more peaceful times than noisy ones. The loungers on the far port side are far enough from the pools that the churning water sound is negligible. But frankly I found it calming, kind of "white noise" like.
Whatever you decide I hope you enjoy the BA, she's an amazing ship. :)
agh thanks!! this message made me really excited again for my trip. I've never been on the BA. Ive sailed on the SS Norway, Jewel and Dawn years ago. Actually i haven't sailed with NCL in a number of years so I'm quite excited to get back to them and have some fun. sailed with HAL my past couple cruises and they were relaxing and enjoyable but i know me and my husband are both really looking forward to something new.
-
thanks for the responses. maybe i ought to check it out first. i know sailing with HAL in the past their ceramic loungers were in a separate room from the pool and it was so soothing and quiet in there, great for getting into a good book. thank you all for the helpful advice.

*bump*
anyone? :)

hey just wondering if anyone has any personal pictures of the Spa Pass area's of the Breakaway?
Also does anyone have any experience with how quiet it is in the heated ceramic chair area? From pictures I've seen online it looks like the thalassotherapy pools are right behind them and i know those pools can be quite loud. In the past (on other cruise lines) I've enjoyed reading a good book while warming up on a heated lounger and was wondering if that was going to be possible with what looks like a very open concept. Does anyone have any info/anecdotes about their own personal experiences in the spa?
Also i know its been addressed in other forums but just maybe for the cruisers that have just been on the breakaway can anyone confirm that the spa passes can be bought before the ship embarks at the pier? I know someone (sorry i can't remember now who) has posted on here that it was possible to buy at the pier before, just wondering if anyone who has sailed on the breakaway in the past week or two can confirm this?
Thanks! i look forward to your responses :)

oh my gosh, i would love to hear those type of announcements on my next cruise.
sometimes we get a sassy train operator when i commute into the city that makes the trip worthwhile, but i love the one liners you mentioned above, thats awesome.
-
thanks for the info. i just thought it sounded neat that you could create your own scent and that kinda piqued my interest. But i do appreciate your feedback in regards to whether you thought it was worth the cost of the excursion.
-
Has anyone been on this excursion? It is being offered on our upcoming Breakaway cruise in the new year and i haven't been able to find any reviews on it. Has anyone here tried this one out yet? Its a bit pricey at 149$ a person if i recall correctly and wondered if it was worth the cost. Any feed back would be much appreciated :)

The Spa staff will have a table set up in the waiting area on the pier.
You can buy the pass there, before you board.
oh ya? I've never heard this before. Im cruising in January out of NY on the breakaway.. so you think they'll have a table set up inside the pier lobby/sitting area? I've never seen that before :)
-
I'm pretty sure if you just go straight to the spa the staff at the desk there would be happy to sell you one :)
thats the first thing I'm gonna do when i get on my cruise.

so am i to understand that after my cruise when i get home theres a chance that i will have money charged to my credit card that i didn't actually use ?
and that money will be refunded in a couple weeks?
sorry this thread is confusing me. in the past I've cruised with HAL and they would do almost a "Hold" on my credit card to make sure it was a valid card. But I've never come home and had anything of the sort actually show up on my credit card bill though, it was more or less held up until the end of the cruise just to make sure we didn't dip out on our bill. Is that essentially what NCL does or is it different ?

Hello All
just wanted to see who is on the same cruise
it is going to be mine and my wife`s first cruise and its also our honeymoon
we are staying in the Haven and cannot wait
we were a little annoyed at the hotel that NCL gave us as part of the package
I have been to NYC well over 30 times and for them to put me in a hotel in queens right near the airport is not great
anyway moan over look forward to getting onboard
hey congrats! this is mine and my hubby's honeymoon trip too! :) great minds think a like. thats awesome you got a haven room.

Wine Lovers - The Musical is a lunch show so it also has a fee. Second City is free. Rock of Ages is Free. Howl at the Moon is free. Fat Cats - Free.
Rope course, slides, mini golf - free, free, and free
There are a few other fee things like if you want to participate in the Deal or No Deal game etc, but don't get the impression that many have that EVERYTHING is extra cost.
BTW, the Cirque Dreams show is $10 cheaper on the first night ($29pp). It may not show it when you book it through myncl but you'll ge the $$ back as a credit on your bill when you board.
ropes course and mini golf are free eh? i swear i read somewhere that there was a small fee for those. glad to hear its included :)

we took a thanksgiving b2b on the eurodam last year and had a great time. we are the same age as you and thought the itinerary / excursions offered were really great. stayed in a balcony on this ship too. i would do that cruise again in a heart beat.
-
hm thats a shame. not a huge deal because i don't plan on spending too much time in the cabin anyways but it was a nice option if you felt like just vegging out one day or even before bed watching a movie. ah well, its a good excuse to go out and do other stuff in lieu of that :)
-
do they not have movies you can "rent" from the front desk? Sailing on HAL in the past you were able to borrow a movie for 24hrs at no charge.. and they had a pretty decent selection, maybe 800 movies to choose from, possibly more.

what exactly is this lobster roll i keep hearing about? whats in it / how is it made cause I'm thinking its something I'm going to have to try from the sounds of it :)
-
i know how you feel, me and the hubs usually spend a good amount of time relaxing in that area as well. we are going to head straight there as soon as we get on the ship cause if its that important to you on your trip (which it is for us :) ) then why risk it?
that being said i actually don't know how quickly they will sell out id just rather not take any chances lol.
-
perfect, what girl doesn't love a little extra spending money ;)
-
thanks, i will budget around 60$ each way just to be on the safe side then. maybe even a little bit more.
-
i realize this thread has been posted a lot before, i did do a search of the forum for the info but a lot of the numbers were a couple years old. Is it generally still 35-40$usd not including tips/tolls? Also how much are the tolls? Thanks in advance for the updated info.
-
I've been slowly making my way through the threads and have done a couple searches for this info and haven't found out anything concrete yet, i even called NCL and they didn't seem to know for sure either way.
For anyone who has travelled on the Breakaway what is stocked in the bathrooms by means of shampoo/conditioner/shower gel ? If it makes any difference its for a balcony room.
Just trying to keep any unnecessary toiletries out of my luggage as they always end up being so heavy. Also if anyone knows the brands of the shower ameneties? I heard they only used Elemis in the higher category state rooms.
Thanks !

yes I'm quite used to the cold so i don't think that will be much of an issue. more so the rocking of the boat would be my concern. but I'm fully stocked up on sea-sickness remedies :) i was just wondering if it would be worse that time of year compared to say the spring or summer. but you're right, theres really no way to know for sure.
