  1. please don't think that way, the tour operators life depends on getting guests back in time. My son is a Captain in St.Thomas. They have 2 goals, you have a great time and getting you back to the ship. His and most tour companies take cruise guests, hotel guests, and some even are contracted to the cruise line. So funny to me when people worry about "ship" time. The tour operators know the times better then you do. Carnival or not.

unless they can guarantee me getting back to the ship or if they don't they would pay for me to get to the next port, I don't think it is going to happen for ME. I would stress too much and not enjoy it. I totally understand it is good business for them to make sure their guests get to the ship on time but there are those flukes with weather, traffic, accidents.

  2. the more I think about it, with tendering involved, I don't think I want to do independent dive - I would just be too paranoid about getting back on time and not have fun

maybe they will have a contract with someone by next January!

  3. Planning an RCCL excursion for January in Belize and there are three that vary greatly in price but I can't figure out if they are different areas or what. Slight difference in time for one of them.

basically we want to go to the second largest coral barrier reef thingy

BE31 - Barrier Reef Snorkeling Wonders $64 for 4 hours

BEG6 - Barrier Reef Snorkel and Island Getaway $79 for 4 hours (Starfish ISland)

BEF1 - Sharks, Rays, and ISland Getaway $119 for 5 1/2 hours (is this the shark alley people mention?)

    Thanks to anyone

  5. I read a thread on the scuba and snorkelling board that Hugh Parkey, the dive operation used by the cruise lines, has gone out of business so there isn't an alternative yet.

My husband is looking at Sea Sports Belize as an alternative, although he likes to dive with the ship in Belize due to the long tender. We're on Rhapsody in December, so hopefully something will be arranged by then.

Oh Ok. That makes sense b/c I thought it was supposed to be a good dive spot. I would love to hear what happens in December! :)

  6. I am nervous about not going on a ship sponsored excursion but I don't see any diving for Belize on RCI Rhapsody in January 2017.

Am I missing it or does anyone recommend a good dive experience and getting back to ship on time?

    Thanks

  7. Hi there

Just a different take on your inquiry here.

We have been on many cruises with the cruise lines that you have mentioned and we have had a great time, every time.

What I am trying to say is that instead of trying to make this cruise something really "awesome" as you put it, just select your cruise the same as you normally would. Look at itinerary, price, ship amenities etc...

People on their first cruise tend to either really enjoy it (don't forget they don't have a previous cruise to compare it to), or they don't. If they don't there is very little about the ship that would make the difference.

Unless you want to look at one of the luxury lines, I don't believe that any one of the other lines would be so special to make a difference in whether your friend really enjoyed themselves. The reason people have a "great" time is because of what they are doing and who they are doing it with.

so go have a great time

you are brilliant. Thank you. I think I needed this put into perspective for me like you just did. everything you said rings true. many thanks!!!!

  8. The Pride has an extremely easy deck plan, never got lost on a Spirit class ship. Check out the Obstructed Balcony cabins. Those starting at the fourth lifeboat are only obstructed when looking down. Also, check out the French Door Inside cabins, some have a view between the life boats.

Here's a very good review, start at #38 for the ship.

Mitsugirly takes great PRIDE in bringing her Spring Break extreme review

thanks! I will definitely check out the review

  9. I am looking to go out of FL around jan feb 2017. These three are out of Tampa but I am overwhelmed with the amount of info out there to try to figure out which one to take! I kinda wanted a newer ship b/c I am going to go with someone who has never cruised before so I want them to have an awesome time. I don't mind going to another port in FL but, like I said, I am overwhelmed. Any guidance would be appreciated

    thanks:confused:

  10. I have not been on either line but I am looking at some 7 day cruises out of Galveston in October/November 2016.

Carnival Breeze and Royal Caribbean Liberty of the Seas have the ports I want.

I know Carnival is cheaper but I have heard great things about RC. It will be women in their early 40s-50s. Don't care to drink much or party but like activities and trivia etc and shows to watch.

    Thank you

  12. She's pretty easy to please. If there are no activities I know she will be super content to sit on deck and read ALL day! She is a reader! I might have to encourage some trivia and such. Ports will be fun with excursions. I haven't seen her in a couple years so I think it will be good.

    Thanks
