To me, it looks like the move away from Cozumel / Mahuhual is simply a capacity issue.  Cozumel can handle 4 ships from RCI brands and NCL brands at the International Pier.  Mahuhual can only take 3, and maxes out at 15000 pax/day.  There simply aren't enough ports open in the western Carib to handle all the ships.  Something had to give.

I was thinking this too. When I looked, there were quite a few ships scheduled for the 23rd when I was supposed to be there on serenade. Nachi was already full. Was wondering if the port/cruise lines don’t want so many different ships mingling in the port…seems like the more ships, the higher chance of outbreaks.

Florida ramped up it’s testing. So higher numbers. Prisons had asymptomatic positives.

    very high numbers, too.

And my least favorite reason: the looters, criminals, and protestors.

Hope none of them took it home to grandparents.

Hurts the cruise industry for sure

I’m going to ignore the part I really want to respond to in your post and simply comment that Florida’s positive percentage rate was almost 20% today compared to 5% a month ago. That’s not numbers going up because of more testing—that’s a percentage.

  3. We intend to cancel our Connie January 2021 sailing. Just trying to find the right option to switch to. Probably not going to lift and shift because I don’t want to sail Connie if she’s not getting the revolution upgrades. Looking at a december 2021 on edge instead. Figure we have a bit of time to figure it out still. But we’ll see.

Here is the next one starting on the 16th.  Pretty standard stuff.

    http://creative.rccl.com/Sales/Celebrity/General_Info/Special_Offers/CEL_June_Savings_Offer_Extension.pdf

It lists the 4 perks for suites separately from the two perk option below it. Do we think that means the 4 perks will be included with every suite booking or extra like it is during the current promo?

Mock booking yesterday (6/9). The gold banner above the suites that says “4 perks”—-it would seem like the 4 perks are included with a suite booking price listed, correct? Well, no. As you progress after choosing a suite, you have the opportunity to PAY for the 4 perks. I asked the Celebrity Captain’s Club booking agent and he explained the price shown on the cruise listing page is the “basic” price. Then why the 4 perks banner I asked? No explanation other than the reiteration that the price shown is the basic price. THEN TAKE THE 4 PERKS GOLD BANNER OFF THAT PAGE! Am I crazy or does it seem to you to be false advertising?

I had this same frustration yesterday! Thought I was going to book and then realized oh with the perks it’s exactly the same price as the day before so not a better promotion at all. I was like why on earth does it say 4 perks included and then charge me $700 for perks!

I find it so unfortunate that Celebrity has developed a reputation for inconsistent answers and front-line staff who simply don't have the necessary information (training?) to deal with the public. You should never have run into this problem, particularly when dealing with a supervisor.

Right! That’s the most frustrating part. If they had told me at the beginning that it wouldn’t work and why, I wouldn’t have been so frustrated. And then to get so many different answers just gets so annoying.

They are still working on getting my original reservation back.

Unfortunately, because there are so many elements to these programs, Celebrity has had to rely on an extensive and growing FAQ section to address all of the details. The Terms and Conditions cover off the major points and the FAQ sections adds some meat to the bones. As the T&C are quite stable while the details in the FAQ continue to evolve, I guess it makes some sense to do it this way. IIRC, in the initial iteration of the L&S guidelines, you couldn't even switch between S- and M-class ships, but that prohibition was dropped fairly quickly.

The supervisor i spoke with insisted that we had to stay in m class and couldn’t switch to s class either. We weren’t interested in that right now anyway but that’s what she swore was the policy. I don’t think she knew what she was talking about though because for the first 5 minutes she said it had to be the same exact ship then expanded to class but wouldn’t go past that.

She didn’t bring up the FAQs, just said I was misinterpreting the terms and conditions and insisted that itinerary included the specific ship.  They probably just need to add in there a couple terms but I’m not their lawyer.

Oh well...will probably end up cancelling altogether but going to wait at least closer to final payment to see what happens.

Those are the T&C's for Cruise with Confidence, not Lift & Shift. They are different programs.

It actually describes both in those terms, if you read them.

I mean it is what is—I booked what i did. I’m only annoyed that they are adding terms and conditions to what’s clearly on their site. If it had said ship class on there, I never would’ve even tried or thought I could. Now just trying to get us switched back to what we had before!

Unless they have changed since we tried to move this wouldn’t qualify.  The offer allows for changing between S & M class ships but not from a S or M class to a E class ( Edge & Apex).  We just had our deposit moved from our Connie booking to a Edge booking- no price protection.

Where is that info located? Their terms don’t say that anywhere...I’ve reread them over and over lol they specify other things about the similar itinerary so I don’t know why it wouldn’t specify that. Extra frustrating since Connie is likely not going to be updated now. Thanks for your experience info though!

  10. Hoping for some insight that I’m not getting from Celebrity with this issue.

Booked on Connie 1/4/21 to ABC Islands plus grand cayman and Puerto Rico (originally was labadee when we booked), 11 nights. Trying to switch to Edge which is also 11 nights to ABC islands and grand cayman but does Columbia instead of Puerto Rico. Based on my reading of the terms and conditions—including the fine print on their website, that should qualify. We were looking at the 12/13/21 or 1/23/22 sailings since those are both a year later +\- 4 weeks.

Initially they said it qualified but we got disconnected and when we got back on the phone the new person said we can’t do it. Now in the meantime, they’ve actually switched us to the new sailing but at the new, more expensive price. She kept saying the only two sailings that qualify are the two Connie sailings in January 2022 and said the edge ones weren’t in the time frame—when I explained they were, she just kept repeating that her chart said I was wrong.

Am I missing something? The itineraries are virtually the same and it’s the same number of nights. Nothing in the terms say it has to be the same ship and at least on the RCCL boards, people were able to do it.

Currently on hold waiting for a supervisor but thought I’d check here for others experiences. I tried searching but nothing was coming up that I could find.

I don't know the Millennium class ships at all but I do know the on the Solstice ships the "retreat" sundeck is just the existing top deck (I think above the Sky View Lounge) it's already there but open to everyone now. And the "retreat lounge" is a re-decorated Micheal's club. I understand you are in a suite so these things are part of what you expect, but I'm not sure how much actual meat is there when you peel away the big marketing fluff.

Modern, renovated rooms and a private, suites only sundeck were big selling points for us when we booked our first celebrity cruise on Connie for next year. Most recent reviews I’ve read have said she is in desperate need of a renovation and I’m just not interested in spending as much as I currently am set to spend on a dated ship. I would’ve never booked a suite or possibly celebrity at all if it weren't going to be renovated. At this point, we’ll just wait and see what happens but if she’s not going to be redone by January, I can’t see myself going on it, as much as I was looking forward to it!

We booked this ship for February based on the revolution.  Really looking forward to the Retreat Sundeck, with four days at sea.  If they don't do the revolution, wondering if that will be considered a reason they will allow cancellation? (I booked non refundable deposit rate). I feel like it should be, it's not as advertised.

We are in the exact same situation but for January. Guess we just have to wait and see.

  13. I searched the boards and found gone caribe was highly recommended. I haven’t gone yet so I can’t help too much but gone caribe has wonderful reviews and they were quick to respond and help me plan my trip there.

  14. We will be going to Labadee and sailing in a sky suite on Connie and wondering if barefoot beach will be accessible for us. The only info I’ve found is for Royal it’s grand suites and above. Also any insight on how that area is?

Wondering if we should try and book a cabana or something or if that area is nice. We just want a nice beach with enough loungers and hopefully some shade. Oh and a bar close by! Looks like there will be two ships in port, if that makes a difference.

    Thanks!

Anxiously hoping its not to late for a last minute question about Coco Cay, how was it with 2 reimagined Voyager class ships ships visiting the same day.  On your first visit I think you were there with the Navagator (same size), your second visit you might have had the much smaller Empress- how crowded did it feel.  We are looking to book the Navigator and notice on all the dates we have to pick from its always in Coco Cay with the Mariner, how was it for Perfect Day in your mind?  I had read some people were wondering if lines would be long when an Oasis class visited but they carry far fewer passengers than 2 Voyager class with the extra cabins now.  Did anyone mention visiting the water park portion and finding it packed  I know that wasn't your focus but maybe in passing or friends onboard.  Appreciate any  feedback at all.  We also hope to do a B2B, one visit for the island and one for the water park- we have a 10 yr old who would love it.

So the pool was definitely more crowded with navigator and Mariner than it was with empress. The beaches and food areas seemed the same. Not sure if it was also the 3 night sailing vs the 4 night but the passengers at coco cay on the first one were way crazier—think mtv spring break from the early 2000s. But again, that was mainly at the pool. A bartender mentioned that the navigator sailings are just a bit crazier in general. Who knows if that’s true or not!

I found it easy to find loungers and short lines for food and drinks both days. I wouldn’t hesitate to do it again with two voyager ships!

Nobody we talked to had done the water park so I can’t speak to that. BUT I also didn’t hear people complaining about it when people watching or anything and if there’s one thing that’s true, people will find anything to complain about. Not sure if that’s helpful or not but I feel like I would have heard people complaining if it was a big problem!

Did you have lunch at any specialty restaurants on port days?  Someone had reported that with the UDP on the Mariner they were able to have lunch every day at a specialty restaurant and not just embarkation day

Yes, on Nassau day we did both times. Chops was open and playmakers. I don’t think Jamie’s was open. And Izumi definitely wasn’t. We ate at coco cay on those days so I’m not sure what was open. One day we came back early and had Johnny rockets too which was at like 2 or 3 and included in the udp.

Happy to hear you liked the Mariner...she was our very first ship we sailed on RCI (when she was brand new and doing 7 night cruises out of PC).  She is actually the ONLY ship that RCI has positioned at our local port as brand

    new.

Just curious about one thing...what was the reason to pick B2B (total 7 nights) on Mariner versus 7 night on Harmony?

We did it because my husbands office was going on the 3 night and we decided to add on the 4 night just for us. If prices were cheap enough like they were for this trip, I’d do it again. We loved having two days at coco cay too.

Thanks for the review and info on the dining plan. We’re sailing in April, and I’m happy to hear Chops was an option on embarkation day. Last time we sailed we were told I was reserved for Key passengers only.

Did you try any of the bar food in the Bamboo Room? I’m looking forward to seeing this venue when we sail.

They are doing the key chops meal in the mdr now so it’s open for lunch again on embarkation day! We didn’t end up trying any of the food at bamboo—we wanted to just never did for whatever reason. I think we were pretty much always full from something else. We only saw people ordering food from there once the whole time.
