  1. We were on the Aug 2-9 Golden Princess cruise from Seattle...the weather was cool but nice except for Ketchikan where it rained (drizzle) all day.

Only needed warm coats, with turtle neck under it, gloves and hat in Glacier bay.. it was foggy when we started but the sun came out and it was beautiful .

Just be sure to dress in layers so you can take some off as it warms up...also bring rain poncho and spray shoes with water repellant as others have suggested.

This was our second Alaskan cruise and only on our first cruise (land portion) did we have heavy downpoors and this was in Denali waiting for train to Fairbanks.

    Think we got lucky.

The best advice we got was don't let the weather ruin your cruise...Alaska is beautiful even in the rain.

  2. We have the same accessible cabin booked for both weeks ( the only one that shows as booked). I would prefer to only use 2 FCC on this cruise not 4.

Our TA is going to call on Tuesday, if that does not work I will call. From past experiences with Princess every agent reacts differently.

Thanks again for your input, it helps to know others have dealt with this issue before.

  3. I am hoping this comment was directed at Princess. You really don't want "me" to give ukulele lessons, hula lessons, and on board entertainment. Star passengers are lucky, they will have Dave Cole early 2015. He can do everything and more (including the hula lessons).

So haapy Dave Cole might be on our Feb 27 cruise from Sf on the Star...But we would love to have you on board to enrich our Hawaiian experience Renee...

  4. I appreciate everyone's input...I just sent an email to our TA (she is a good one) asking her to check with Princess again.

As for the mini-bar and wine tasting x2...I can't drink due to medication and my husband drinks very little so this is not a factor for us...we are Elite already so very little witll change for us either way. Except for using 4 future cruise credits for the B2B.

We always book this far in advance so we get the accessible cabin we prefer.

This really surprised me that the web site shows all the balcony accessible cabins but the one we booked available on the B2B and none available on the 14 day. Just seemed discriminatory to me.

  5. I tried to book an accessible cabin on a 14 day Caribbean Adventure on the Emerald Princess for Feb. 2016 (thru my TA) and was told that none were available..but if we booked two seperate weeks they were. Somehow this does not seem right. When I check the 14 day cruise the accessible balcony cabins are sold...but individually they are all available except the one I have booked.

The two seperate 7 day cruises cost more combined than the 14 day cruise, I loose internet minutes, and Military benifits and stock credit are less...is this Princess' way to make more money...don't think its right. Many non accessible cabins are available to book for the 14 day cruise...Seems like discrimination against someone that needs an accessible cabin.

I hope Princess reads CC and will answer my question.

  6. My family group of 25 just returned 3 weeks ago from our Alaskan cruise on the Golden Princess..there was a mix of dress in the dining room from formal to nice jeans and a button down white shirt ( no tie or jacket). No one said anything .

My husband wore dress pants, white shirt and tie ( that's as dressed up as he wanted to get,

Your friend will be fine, Alaska is much less formal especially with all the children on board.

It is a wonderful cruise enjoy

  7. August is a great time to go on the Golden, we (25 members of my family) just returned form our cruise in the Golden. 2 weeks ago. Loved the ship, wonderful crew, very good food and good weather..only rained in Ketchikan and was cold in glacier bay. If you have any questions I would be happy to try and answer them

  8. We reached Elite on our last cruise but have never been on the Emerald Princess before...we just booked a b2b In 2016. I have a quesiton about Traditional dining...which dining room do they use for Traditional 6 PM dinner. Hoping it is one of the dining rooms off the atrium and not all the way in the back of the ship.

On the Grand/Golden they use 1/2 of the any-time dining room for Traditional early seating besides the aft dining room.

    Thanks...

  9. We just returned from the Golden..we were a family group of 22, we had early dining. some night due to tours in Alaska some would be too late to eat at one of our 3 tables...we always told our waiter or the Head Waiter so that others could be seated at our emply table. This also worked if some in our group wanted a speciality restaurant. It just seemed like a common courtesy. It worked well. We were in the Donatello dining room which is 1/2 traditional and 1/2 any time for first seating.

  10. We were just stayed at the Maxwell July 8 before our cruise on the Golden Princess. It is a lovely hotel, the staff was excellent. Great quiet room. They had a shuttle to the ship ( pier 91) for $7.00. They have a free shuttle to local attractions during the day. Loved the afternoon pineapple cupcakes in the lobby.

Would definitely stay there again when in Seattle.

  11. We just returned last Saturday from our Golden Princess (RT Seattle) cruise. I took the suggestion to sprayed our gym shoes with Camp Dry (found in the shoe department of Walmart)

It worked great...I use a wheel chair or scooter and my feet are exposed but they stayed dry in the rain. ...We had brief rain in Glacier Bay and misty rain in Ketechacan.

No need to buy special shoes.

  12. We just returned on the Golden Princess last Saturday...We never saw a bug except for one fly in Skywalkers...took bug spray but it never left our cabin. No bugs were seen on any of ur tours either.

    You should be fine.

  13. Hello all, my DH can walk for a short distance and can climb a few stairs. On the cruise ship he will be using his scooter but we would like to see whales in Juneau. Harv & Marvs website suggest that he would not be a good fit for their tours. Does anyone else have ideas. He can go without his scooter if he doesn't have to walk far.

Thanks for any help you can give us.

We just returned late Saturday from the Golden Princess Alaskan cruise...we used Orca Enterprises in Juneau...they were so nice and very accessible. I use a wheelchair and my husband uses a rollator...they have an accessible van and they agreed to pick us up across the street from the pier in a parking lot...the pier area is private for the busses) they then drove us to their office about 2 blocks away so our son could check in for us...we were a party of 14...you get a discount if you have 10 or more.

They drove us to the ship there is a long pier with a steep ramp and then a ramp to get on the boat. No problem with my wheelchair...they even have a scooter to borrow that can take you to and from the boat (whcih my husband used)

They had water, juice, hot chocolate and crackers, smoked salmon and cheese for snacks.

The crew was great, wish we saw more whales (we saw Orca's) but it was not a great day for whale watching...no one on the ship saw a lot that day. We saw others on our own at the entrance to Glacier Bay.

I would recommend them if you have a mobility problem.

  14. We are scheduled next Monday..hope it's up and running. Also hope all those that were injured are better now.

I will post if the tour from the Golden Princess goes off as planed, we did this train several years ago and loved it

  15. It's a cruise. Looking for shore tours that accommodate handicapped at stop in Colon. (Didn't plan on walking to the canal:p)

Thanks for the laugh of the day. Wish I could help been thru the canal 4 times but never to Colon. I use a w/c for tours and can walk short distances, I did not find any totally accessible tours at any stop. Sorry

  16. I am facing that now, i have a few herniated disk, and had to use a scooter in the store for the first time, and looking to use a wheel chair on our up coming cruise. The looks you get, i felt everyone's eyes on me, accusing looks, its so hard.

Just consider your wheelchair your throne!..I look perfectly fine but I am an above the knee amputee and large stores are just too big for me to walk around in with my prosthesis..not to mention standing in a long line...just smile..no one knows anything about you and you probably wont see them again in your liftime...

you can definitely take a folding w/c along and infact someone from princess will push you to your cabin...Princess really tried to make it easy and fun for those with mobility problems.. Not sure of your cruise line but all lines do the same.

We are going on the WPR in Skagway in the accessible car and taking the Orca Enterprise's whale watching tour (which is also accessible )in Juneau.

Hope you have a great cruise and good luck with your surgery after the cruise.

We leave in a week and we cant wait.

Marieze we are on the same cruise with you.. I think I read on CC that only the punches that are left can be used on another cruise..the brewed coffee part is only good for the cruise it was purchased on. Maybe another CC member can say so for sure.

    Petlover,

Loved your review we are a three generation family/ friends group of 25 going for a family reunion Getting excited too.
