  1. I have never cruised before but reading numerous posts on ship photographers, I get the impression they take more tan one picture of us whilst we are on the ship?;) I say that with a sense of humour and certainly not as a criticism. It is possible they take a minimum of thirty such images and if this is the case, then we are possibly talking about 60,000 images every two weeks???

If that startling figure is correct and each image takes up a minimum of 5mb storage space, we are talking about big numbers?? I feel for those who want pictures, weeks, or months after a cruise, but I might be able to see both sides of this debate :o:o.

Actually, if we use your example, 60,000 images at 5mb works out to be less than 300gb of digital storage. That might seem a lot for your home computer, but for corporate data storage, that is a relatively small amount. Probably the biggest problem would be the transfering of the data from the ships computer to the company's headquarters, but that could easily be done while in port anywhere in the world.

When I checked with the Image Group last year, they indicated that it was possible to get photos after leaving the ship on some of the other cruise lines they service, but not on Cunard. However, I have no idea if this is the case now.

  2. It does appear that people who buy the (considerably more expensive) CD can legally copy the photos that they pay to unlock, but as budget minded person, a single photo at $25 is all we would normally buy. However, after my last experience with the photo ink, I will probably refrain from buying another in my future Cunard voyages.

Since each of the photos has a unique number on it, it still seem odd to me that the photo company does not keep the photo digital files on their computer system for at least a few weeks so that customers could buy addition copies when they get settled in back home.

  3. The photography vendor for the Cunard ships is The Image Group. They will not allow you to purchase photo of yourself after you leave the ship.

Cruise Line: Purchasing Photos After Your Cruise

Modified on: Thu, Nov 21, 2013 at 4:07 PM

If you are returning from a Cunard cruise and purchased a Get the Picture! disc online or during your cruise, you may purchase more credits online to unlock additional photos. Once you have finished unlocking the photos purchased in your package, please select "Buy More Photos" and follow the instructions to purchase additional unlock credits.

If you are returning from a Cunard Cruise and did not purchase a Get the Picture! disc, we are unable to offer photo sales once your cruise has ended.

One of the photos we purchased while on the QM2 was damaged by a raindrop before we got home (apparently they use water soluble photo ink). After contacting the Image Group, I scanned the photo into my Mac, corrected the damage and then took the file to our local Walgreen. They informed me that it was a copyrighted photo and I had to sign a form that stated that I took full legal responsibility for the copyright issuers.

  4. I'm not certain what would be defined as "alternative", but we had no problem getting caesar salads every night last March in the QE Britannia dining room even when it was not on the menu.

I don't agree that not having it specifically printed on the menu is unfair. Just consider it a hidden value for repeat passengers ;). After all, all you have to do is ask.

  5. Perhaps not for those people you call "buoys", either.

How do you know that they don't have a legitimate orthopedic problem that prevents them from moving around to suit you or to follow the rules of "floormanship?"

If you have not walked a mile in their prosthetic....

I can't speak for disabled dancers with prostehetics on ships, but we have several seniors in our local dance group who wear prostehetics and have no trouble following the rules of floormanship. Those who are unable to move in the line of dance simply move into the center of the floor where they can dance without blocking the floor to other dancers on the perimeter.

After crossing on the QE the end of March, we left our 'formal' bag with Cunard. It cost $65 for up to 30 days, and when we boarded the QM2

on April 26th, it was in our cabin by 2 p.m.

We went to the purser's desk on the second day QE to ask about the service (I had read about it here on this thread before departing) and they put our

name on a list. The night before disembarking, we went back to the purser's desk and they gave us a special tag for our bag. We left it outside our cabin

    that night.

It was well worth the $65, especially, since OBC covered it. :) We plan on using this service again next time we cross.

Warning: Some of the staff at the Purser's desk gave us different answers on what to do with our bag the last night. One said that we would have to go to the terminal and identify the bag after we disembarked. That would be impossible as we were self-embarking and would be off the ship before 7:30 a.m. to meet a friend. I knew that was not right from reading this thread, and, thankfully, had printed the thread and my husband took it to the purser's desk and showed them. The staff on duty at that time, said, the thread is correct and just leave the bag outside our door and no need to go to the terminal and identify the bag. It all worked out great...but Cunard should make sure that all staff at the purser's desk, are on the same page.

Very happy they provide this service.

    best regards,

    seasidegal

Thanks for your input. I just hope that the fact we will be staying on the ship for 2 more days after Southampton doesn't make any difference to Cunard.

  7. My wife and I are planning a TA on the QM2 from NY to Hamburg. We would like to be able to have Cunard store our formal suitcase in Southampton while we continue on to Hamburg and then return the suitcase to us when we return to Southampton for the return voyage 2 weeks later. I suppose we could disembark in Southampton with the suitcase and take a taxi to one of the storage facilities mentioned previously, but having Cunard handle it would certainly be more convenient. Has anyone had experience doing this?
