  1. Maybe NCL could consider some of those inside rooms near the suites as suite rooms ONLY when booked with another suite or something. Charge more and solve this problem for everyone. Only issue I can see is the in room dining if their is no table. So, don't allow that in the insides so you don't have a mess. I wonder how many of these rooms are booked for families/kids that are in suites?

  2. Some people just don't realize how loud it slams. Have you tried just poking your head around and asking them to try not to let it slam? I would do that before I gave up my balcony.

Had a family next to me couple cruises ago on FREEDOM that was bad, with little kids in and out all day and night. I just made them aware of the slamming and that pretty much took care of it.

I somewhat agree with you but I feel that carnival should either put a sign in the room or make an announcement to ask people not to let the doors slam. Or they should invest some money into closers that don't allow them to slam every time. I can see the door slamming once in a while if you have the cabin door open. But the slamming above us was so bad on our legend cruise that I am with the poster that said they got an oceanview room instead. We are on the paradise next month and got an OV and inside cabin. I just don't want to spend the money on a balcony and then have to be woken up at 530am by the door slamming above us. I thought it was children going in and out but my husband saw the couple one day and I guess it was an older couple. I really wasn't sure if they were directly above us or above us one room in front or back. The other 2 lines we have been on have sliding balcony doors, so it's not a problem.

  3. So if I'm reading this correctly. What you are saying is with or without NCL picking up the guests in Cozumel because this particular itinerary goes to Roatan and Belize City that it wouldn't be the modified process anyway? Therefore, passengers should be expecting longer delays at customs? Which would explain why my friends on a totally different line that never picked anyone up and have cruised many cruiselines and many ports stated "Tampa was a nightmare"

Sorry I haven't went to your link yet, I haven't had the time.

I wondered this too. And I wonder if this was always the case for those 2 ports or recently changed. Because we were on the Carnival Legend in Feb of this year and didn't have any issues going through customs. The itinerary we were on went to both Roatan and Belize City.

  4. This was my experience as well when I considered changing from a deluxe owners suite to a family suite on the Dawn. Still a suite, same guests but I would lose my OBC of $300 AND my deposit plus would be charged current pricing which overall meant it would save me $100 to switch...we decided to stay with our original suite.

Our PCC was awesome and explained everything to me, she encouraged me to take time to way the options and decide if the move was really what I wanted.

When you do a price drop the rules do state that you will receive the promotion from that date not the original booking. It is in the fine print of the terms and conditions, I was encouraged to read them to make an informed decision about switching cabins.

I'm sorry that whoever you spoke with did not take the time to explain everything to you and let you make the best decision for your party. Unfortunately it seems from your post that you've already made the changes and are unhappy with the results.

What I am unhappy with is that other people have kept the $300 credit when I was told I couldn't. But I do have a question about your situation. You said you lost your deposit. What does that mean? You forfeited it? Were you inside the penalty period? Was it refunded back to you?

  5. Yes the date will obviously change, it's more to do with accounting procedures.[/quote

That makes perfect sense to me then. So, let me ask you a hypothetical question. There is a promotion that you get $300 OBC for booking a suite more than 9 months in advance (which is what the NCL web page says under the suite listings). Let's say someone gives you a reservation that has 3 people booked in a SD suite on a February 23rd 7 night sailing with the reservation date in the upper right hand corner saying that the reservation was made on April 4th, 2013. Should they receive the $300 OBC?

  6. The same will happen if you call for a price reduction, people need to factor in their OBC before calling. POLICY is POLICY!

When they do a price adjustment, do they change the booking date to the day they do the adjustment?

That's the part also missing in my situation. I didn't get today's pricing & current $150 OBC that they are offering today. She told me the pricing was based on the original booking date or something.

  7. You should have quit while you were ahead...eight words in. Spin it any way you'd like, I'm simply explaining what happened. You aren't happy with what happened on the phone earlier, you don't like what you're hearing here, and you won't like what you'll hear when you call back.

Hopefully, you booked the people in the Inside into the suite as well so we all don't have to go thru the entire perks debate.

That is untrue. You are telling me what you think happened and I am giving you all the reasons why it didn't happen. It appears you are the unhappy one and the one refusing to see the facts here. My reservation was not cancelled as you keep telling me it was.

And I understand how the perks work. That isn't an issue and you are the one bringing it up to argue some more.

  8. The standard business practice is to CANCEL Reservation A and book Reservation B as a NEW reservation. While it may "look" like you are modifying a reservation, they do not treat it that way. If it was a modificaton, then prior terms would apply...Cancel and Re-Book is the standard and the reason why you end up with the current promoton terms.

There is no point in arguing on here but I know what my reservation says. It says the same booking number it said before I called today and it has the same original booking date on it. If I cancelled that reservation and booked a new one, shouldn't all of that have been changed to today's date and a completely new booking number? Also, wouldn't I have been issued a refund on that reservation and then had to pay for the new one? I have modified reservations on 2 different lines now and they were both modifications, NOT cancellations. And on the other line I was still entitled to the OBC for the reservation. And I specifically asked if that reservation was cancelled and a new one entered and was told no. Standard business practice would be to help your customers out when they decide to change rooms but stay on the same cruise. Not make it more difficult to do that. They already had a good chunk of my money. Why risk losing it all if we can't work together? Plus, now they will now probably sell the other suite to 2 or 3 people for a lot more than we had paid for it for 5 people.

  9. I've posted this on RV's thread but in case you missed it there.

Unless I am reading the terms and conditions incorrectly.

"Guests who cancel and rebook must accept this promotion's Terms and Conditions. Please note that the cancellation and rebooking process may impact guests who receive early booking Latitude Rewards points as the system looks at the Initial Date to calculate the 9 months or prior".

Therefore when you upgrade or switch your reservation they have to cancel your initial and rebook you under the new. As you can see it says the system only reads the new date. In order to get around this it would have to be entered manually by someone.

Call back and speak to a supervisor (who would have the authority to override the system). Good chance they will override it for you although it is part of their terms and conditions not to.

I will call back and speak to a supervisor tomorrow. My head was pounding after spending an hour on the phone today to change suites and add a room. And as I posted on the other thread, I did not CANCEL my booking. I modified it. It has the same booking number I received when I originally booked it in April 2013. It still has the same booking date of April 2013. And we are still in a SUITE. So, explain to me again why were aren't still entitled to the $300 OBC for booking a suite 9 months or more in advance?

  10. Unless I'm misunderstanding what the initial problem was and/or I'm reading this terms and conditions wrong, NCL does have it officially in writing. "Guests who cancel and rebook must accept this promotion's Terms and Conditions. Please note that the cancellation and rebooking process may impact guests who receive early booking Latitude Rewards points as the system looks at the Initial Date to calculate the 9 months or prior".

What it sounds like here is that NCL (2nd time around ;)) rethought the unhappiness of it's customer and manually reset the booking advance OBC to please their customer.

If I am understanding all this correctly then this is one area that cruise critic can be a big problem area because if NCL gives in to one passenger and they come on and say NCL did this for them. Then everyone thinks it's policy and should be able to get it as well. Companies usually do and should make exceptions on an individual basis. But that should be up to a supervisor not the call center people.

Although I'm really not sure why rv would have lost the suite OBC as well since the suite OBC does not rely on being booked that far out. That has me a little baffled. Think someone may have just screwed up there.

I assume their situation was like ours. We did not cancel, we modified our booking and changed suites. We have the same booking number, the same booking date of April 2013, yet they are telling us we aren't entitled to the $300 obc credit just like they told them. To me, that isn't right so it was fixed for them. I don't think they were asking for anything extra, just what they would have been entitled to with booking any suite more than 9mts in advance.

  11. After a long talk with NCL again today, they have made everything right with us!!! One individual made a mistake in the handling of this and I'm comfortable that NCL has corrected the situation.

Great job on NCL's part in rectifying the situation.

We are in a similar situation and wondered if you spoke to anyone specific? I also made a new thread on the particulars of our situation because I didn't want to hijack yours but I am equally disappointed with NCL right now.

  12. I am looking for information and/or advice. Here are the details.

We booked a 2bed suite 10 months out for 4 adults and 1 child. Final payment is due 12/10 and I called today to change to a family suite and inside cabin because we have 4 adults and I was worried about the bed setup. The price was only about $250 more but it gives us a bigger balcony in the suite and better bed setup. But I was told we don't get to keep the $300 OBC for booking a suite 9 months in advance. This doesn't make sense to me because we are still in a suite, and the reservation was not cancelled, it was modified. So, I think we should still get the $300 OBC. We did not book under the current promotion so we aren't trying to double up on anything. The woman I was talking to didn't really seem up to speed on everything and I know there's a lot to know. But, I wonder if I should either call back and talk to a supervisor or how to handle this?

  13. I just called them also regarding our upcoming Getaway cruise on May 3rd. According to NCL website, it does not state "ON SELECTED" cruises at all. However, when talking to "Lisa" at NCL, evidently it is just on selected cruises. Somewhat VERY misleading!

I agree it is very misleading and it would just be better if they put a link to the chart on the website. When I clicked the terms and conditions at the bottom all that came up was information on the current OBC offer.

  14. Any word from NCL?

I am on the phone now. Air credit doesn't apply to Dawn, only getaway, pearl, star, pride, etc. If it did apply, I would have to cancel and re-book, which i was prepared to do. Seems like more of a thing for european air. But in any case, we did switch suites from an 2 bed family suite to a family suite with balcony plus inside on deck 12 because I really wanted a bigger balcony and it will be nice to have 4 standard beds since we have 4 adults. Made our final payment and can't wait to sail the Dawn!

  15. Hi there. I am going to call NCL tomorrow but wondered if anyone had information or experience with the air credit promotion they have going on now. It says up to $1000 but I can't find any other information about it such as how much per person, etc. We were originally going to drive from Toledo to Tampa for our Feb cruise but if we can get a good deal on airfare, maybe we will fly. Also, if you get airfare through NCL, can you go to port early at all? Or just the day of? And can you get this under an existing reservation or do you have to rebook it under the promo? Just curious. Not sure if this would work for us or not because we would like to arrive early. Thanks for any information or experiences.
