Mostly the pools should be open when in port, I can't remember a cruise where the main pool was closed. I've had times where the smaller pools have been closed while in port, but never the main one.
-
We had a similar situation when we got back from our cruise. We rented a car (not sure if thats an option) and went to the Orlando area attractions. Celebration is a great area. Just drop off car at MCO.
Also they offered flight check on the cruise for 20 I believe.

New Year's Eve was crazy. Can't believe how many people were on Lido deck and how many champagne glasses were being handed out. Not sure about the speeding back but the ride out on Dec 26th was quite bumpy the first few days.
Great cruise though.
Yea IDK, all I know is that if we did the speed we where doing on the way back up to Port Canaveral we could of easily made it to Amber Cove and St. Thomas on time. I'm glad we didn't though, LOL!
-
Oh god... the free drinks on New Years was not a good idea... I don't even get how some of the kids got drinks, when me being 21 wasn't even offered by the waiters going around... I even got served virgin drinks when I clearly gave them my sail and sign card to, makes no sense... anyway I thought the cruise was great. Jamie is excellent. But what was with the speeding back to PC the last night... we where doing like 22 knots and bouncing all over the place.

The ship seems to be holding up well. I am slightly worried about crowds but we have one of the two captains suites so we will just stay on our verandah if worse comes to worse lol.
-
What do I have is a loaded question. Usually everything on the buffet. Lol.
-
Thanks. Feel free to ask questions along the way. I got pics of most areas except the Spa, Camp Carnival and not enough pics of the upper Serenity Deck.
Great! I will have a whole list for you soon. Lol!
Thanks again.

Can't wait to read! We are sailing in December and I wanna learn everything possible. :)

My family and I are so interested in the cabana bungalo style rooms to rent... anyone know how to get one? I don't see it listed under excursions.

I am glad to hear this. Flying has gotten so expensive, especially for a family of four. This port will be drivable for us. I hope they get at least the Conquest sized ship in there. I also hope the itinerary will be a variety. Maybe alternate from western and eastern. I never understand why the ports like Galveston and New Orleans do not offer more eastern choices (besides just to the bahamas). Jmo
I don't believe it is really possible to reach Eastern Caribbean cruise ports in just 7 days from Galveston and New Orleans, they would need to be much longer cruises, which although Carnival is trying to get into, most people still prefer the shorter 5-7 night cruises. Maybe with Amber Cove more cruises are possible but nothing to far in the Eastern like St. Thomas, San Juan or St. Maarten.
I bet you will see 5-7 night cruises to Mobile, most being Western with a few to like Key West, Nassau, Freeport, Amber Cove.

How does the Elation compare to the Fascination.
Puerto Rico is having all sorts of problems. Maybe this is the last stop before Fascination is sold?
What type of problems? Doesn't make sense. All other cruise lines seem to be doing pretty well there. That sorta doesn't make sense.

Going to San Juan initially
Still don't get that... a fascination ship in San Juan, limited balconies, mostly ocean-view very interesting Carnival. Are they not selling well?
-
No idea what it could be... Marine Traffic has the ship arriving at 4:30 in the morning... not sure how accurate that is. Could be that they are doing lifeboat tests. Also possible that they are just trying to spread out boarding, which is common for Carnival and other cruise lines. Enjoy your cruise!

What is the order of your priorities? Knowing that will help with feedback but based on itinerary alone, AOS is the best. What RCL ship were you on? What Carnival ships have you been on? What are the ages of your children?
Hi thanks for responding so quickly. We have no real priority just keeping busy. We were on Enchantment of the Seas. For Carnival we have been on the Miracle, Sensation, Triumph and Destiny. I'll be 21 brother would be 17 parents early 50s.
Just wondering if you have been on either of the two other cruise lines you're considering -- Carnival & NCL?LuLu
Yup both. Enjoyed all honesty just having been in Haven we fear going back to Carnival is like going from a Hyatt to a motel.
Thanks for the suggestions!
Happy Holidays!

So next Christmas/New Years we are thinking of doing a cruise. We have pretty much narrowed it down between the Carnival Sunshine, Norwegian Escape and Royal Caribbean Adventure of the Seas. Carnival and Norwegian would do Eastern Caribbean cruises, the RCL would be a Southern Caribbean Cruise. I will lay out the pros and cons of each and itineraries as well.
However, the biggest problem for us is that on our last cruise we sailed on the Norwegian Breakaway in the Haven. We were definitely spoiled. Our fear is going from the Haven to the other ships rooms. What is your suggestion?
Sunshine: We would either have two suites (cheap enough for us) or one bigger suite (captains suite). I am just afraid going from Haven to Carnival we will be very disappointed. around $9,000.
Day 1: Port Canaveral, Florida- Depart 4:00PM
Day 2: Day at Sea
Day 3: Amber Cove, Dominican Republic 9:00AM Depart 4:00PM
Day 4: St. Thomas, U.S.V.I- Arrive 11:00AM Depart 7:00PM
Day 5: San Juan, Puerto Rico- Arrive 8:00AM Depart 4:00PM
Day 6: Grand Turk- Arrive 1:00PM Depart 7:00PM
Day 7: Day at Sea
Day 8: Port Canaveral, Florida- Arrive 8:00AM
Escape: Because NCL wants $20,000 for the Haven (are they nuts??) we couldn't do that. We would have to do either two mini suites or two balconies which is about $10,000. However, we still wouldn't be in Haven so will we be disappointed anyway?
Day 1: Depart Miami, Florida 4:00PM
Day 2: Day at Sea
Day 3: Day at Sea
Day 4: St. Thomas, U.S.V.I- Arrive 8:00AM Depart 6:00PM
Day 5: Tortola, B.V.I- Arrive 8:00AM Depart 4:00PM
Day 6: Day at Sea
Day 7: Nassau, Bahamas- 10:00AM Depart 6:00PM
Day 8: Arrive Miami, Florida 8:00AM
Adventure of the Seas: We have done 1 RCL cruise and hated it. I think cause the ship was small and it didn't seem to have a lot to do for us kids back then. However, that is my fear again. We could do two junior suites on AOS for about $9,000.
Day 1: San Juan, Puerto Rico- Depart 8:30
Day 2: St. Thomas- 8:00AM Depart 6:00PM
Day 3: St. Croix- 7:00AM Depart 6:00PM
Day 4: St. John’s, Antigua- 8:00AM Depart 5:00PM
Day 5: Castries, St. Lucia- Arrive 8:00AM Depart 5:00PM
Day 6: St. George’s, Grenada- Arrive 8:00AM Depart 5:00PM
Day 7: Day at Sea
Day 8: Arrive San Juan, Puerto Rico 6:00AM
Any thoughts... suggestions. Feedback. Anything to help convince me which one we should do. HELP!

There will come a day, sooner rather than later, where some of their homeports will simply have to go away because the ports can't support the size of the larger ships of today.
Thank you
Yea you are definitely right. Look we lost Tampa with long cruises because of lack of ships. I just think at this time it is not happening. Who knows maybe carnival will surprise me. Maybe under new management but it is tough a lot rely on these ships to make cruising cheaper which carnival is known for.

I just don't see Carnival putting a new ship in N/O or Galveston. I think that Carnival will put it in Florida or NY where all the new ships seem to go and move some ships around.
For the Fantasy leaving, I posted a thread a while back speculating that it was retiring or going to a sister cruise line in Europe but IDK... it seems that Carnival is key to having them because some of there markets wouldn't exist without them.
My guesses:
Fantasy leaves, Ecstasy takes place and another ship currently based in Miami, takes over route. (Very possible, why not?)
Fantasy stays, new ship based in Miami, Breeze to Galveston, Magic to Port Canaveral, Something to N/O.

It is the spirit or legend.
What a shame… there goes my stir the pot theory. ;):p
-
Anyone see this pic on twitter? Looks like a new type of ship to me… unless I’m nuts, please let me know! :roll eyes:
As far as I know the only ship to have the Green Thunder or whatever it is called are in Spirit and Legend. It may be one of those but IDK let’s just stir the pot.
Anyone wanna take a guess on pools and slides an stuff?

Lanie!
We just had her on the August 17th cruise to Bermuda. She was very nice but I don’t think she did anything over the top. Yet IDK since it was our first Haven stay. Maybe we didn’t take full advantage.

I'm not a Jet Blue flyer so I could be wrong, but with most airlines the term GATE CHECKING means they check the bag at the gate because the overhead space is full, but you do not pick it up at the gate at the end of that flight segments; you pick it up at baggage claim as you would a regular bag.
VALET CHECKING means it's a small commuter plane that generally doesn't have overheads big enough to accommodate rollaboard bags, even when the overheads are empty, so they check the bag at the gate AND you pick it up at the gate at the end of that flight segment.
I guess I mean claim at gate. You take it on the plane if there is no room you can ask a flight attendant and they will get a gate agent to check it and give you a claim at gate tag. I know they don't charge and it isn't a big deal. You should be fine

Interesting info on boarding. We are taking our first JetBlue flight in November from FLL to PIT. What happens if all the cabin space is used up? Do they then have to check the bags for a fee? We will be returning from an almost three week vacation and transatlantic cruise and we will have two roller bags. We will have checked the larger bags. If they gate check, that will be fine. I will pack my IPAD in my purse. My husband will have his camera. Just need to know. We are towards the front over the wings. We couldn't beat the price for a nonstop!

I'm a jetBlue guru. Love them. No worries about the bag. If you can't find a place for it they WILL gate check it for you no problem. You will claim it at the gate when you arrive.

Uh oh... any news on possible port changes? I assume there may be some with the late departure... if she ever departs.
-
No worry, none of your ports of call should require tendering. Grand Turk's dock is right near the major shopping areas which also has some great views of the ship. Aruba is always visible on Port Fever or the Port Aruba Webcam. I don't know about Curacao but from what I read it is right near the city center.
Can't get into my booking

That's good to hear! We just booked our cruise and I was able to do the online check-in for one cabin but not the other... and then I got nervous thinking I messed up. Glad to hear that it is an IT issue and it should be fixed soon.
