Oops! sorry, forgot to answer your question about the Baths. If they're too crowded, head up the road towards Spanish Town where you'll find Spring Bay National Park beach. It's well marked; you can't miss it. There's a bit of a path through the woods to reach it. It's beautiful and serene and has the same huge boulders as you find in the Baths, though not with quite as much "wow" but then again what does? There are picnic tables and even some grills though no snack stands or restroom facilities. We did the Rio to Miami a year ago -- great cruise!!

 

As to Virgin Gorda, as Deirdre pointed out, you have to go early. It's very easy to get to in a group open air taxi, and if you'll go first thing, it won't be crowded at all. What happens is later on, visitors (cruise ships and otherwise) from Tortola arrive and it gets real busy. It's worth the effort to take an early tender, and then if things get too busy at The Baths, you could go to the quiet beach.

We're booked next Feb on the Rio to Miami cruise - one of the ports is Virgin Gorda -did the quiet beach you found near the Baths have a name?

So that I can better serve you, I want to make sure that I understand your source of confusion. Please let me know if I'm on target or steer me in the right direction - Thanks!

 

First, I have assumed that you're vacationing on the Azamara Journey's 13-night Discovering Vietnam & Thailand, January 21 - February 3, 2014. I'm confused about your report of finding an email stating that the AzAmazing Evening was cancelled and changed and confusion about the hotel that would be used.

 

Perhaps I'm off-target from a posting from "2fromTO" reporting receiving an email stating that the AzAmazing Evening, Feb 10,2014, Binh Qoi Village, HCMC - Journey, Feb 3, Singapore to Hong Kong had been cancelled. In a later report and after reading the email "more carefully," it seems the content was modified based on guest feedback. When the new copy was posted, it was first cancelled and then reinstated with the correct details.

 

I've checked our website and Land Discovery brochure for the January 21, 2014 voyage and have found the identical information describing the event that will occur on Thursday, January 30, 2014 in Bangkok:

 

Discovering Bangkok's Ancient City — 30-January, Bangkok

Celebrate a Thai festival at Dusit Maha Prasat Throne Hall in the Ancient City, a lush 200-acre site of splendidly reproduced temples, shrines, palaces and stupas. Throne Hall, the Ancient City’s crowning masterpiece, is the site of tonight’s Loi Krathong ceremony and entertainment. The Thai love their festivals, and this is a particularly lovely one as lotus-shaped containers (krathong) are launched over the water (loi), symbolizing release of negative emotions and behavior. Your evening also includes a variety of regional dances, such as the tricky and challenging bamboo dance, crafts demonstrations by local artisans, and Thai delicacies and desserts paired with local beers and Mai-Tais.

Thanks for following this up -The website error has now been corrected - the problem was with the online booking screen- the event was described as you have listed however when you clicked 'More Details' it was describing a different event taking place in Taipei

i see from the roll calls that a us guest had an email regarding cancellation of azamazing evening in bankok. I checked land discoveries and sure enought the evening has changed. I tried to check out the hotel we will be visiting with no luck! There are several gand hotels to choose from.

 

Really disappointed that i have had no official communication regarding this.

 

Does anyone have more info?

it appears to be a problem with the website -part of the description is referring to a evening that happens on the itinerary that goes to Taipei

 

i spoke to the uk call centre on thursday who were emailing miami requesting correct info be posted and it would take upto 48hrs to correct but it's still wrong this morning

 

Bill - could you please ask shore excursions for the correct details

Hi Bill,

We are booked on an upcoming cruise to Asia Jan 21 to Feb 3, 2014. The Azamazing Evening was originally scheduled for the second evening in Bangkok. However, when we checked today on the Azamara website we noticed that it has been moved up to the first evening in Bangkok which is Jan. 29. Not only that, the detail description of the event is actually for Taipei???:confused:

Since the ship is scheduled to dock at 2pm and the event is for 7pm, it doesn't really allow us much time and choice to plan any land tours or activities in between. Would appreciate your help in advising accurate date, time and description on this Azamazing Evening.

Can anyone who has been into Bangkok Klong Toey port with Azamara let us know if they provide shuttles into the centre of Bangkok. I think there is nearby MRT connections, but wondered if they drop you into the city. If they do provide shuttles can you let us know what time these run to/from.

In February the shuttles ran every half an hour to the Central World Shopping Plaza which is adjacent to the Siam BTS stop - you could also get off at the port gate

Also do you know when Hong Kong hotels for Jan 2014 will be loaded the Singapore hotels have been listed for quite a while
