  1. I used to drive truck in the 70s, and could drink just about any black coffee that I came across. I have since developed into a slight snobbery when it comes to coffee, but only at home. Since I retired I cut back on how much I drink, but two cups of Newman's Own Special Blend Kcups each morning is great. I can still revert back to my Truck driving days when I need to. In the unlikely case of really bad coffee, I will have to buy one each morning.

I actually started roasting my own for a while, but since I discovered a Kcup that satisfies, I can get by on a good cup that costs less than $0.50/cup.

  2. Most people I have talked to about cruises, when they have never been balk at cruises 7 days and longer. If you can get them all to agree to a 7 or 8 day, you are doing great. It seems like you know as much about cruising as you need to convince them. I don't understand what input you are looking for.

  3. click on "Rewards for Good" at the top, the click on "Step 3: Treat Yourself!" (View Rewards Catalog), then at the top of the page search "carnival".

All that's available right now are the $450/500 cards

Thanks. Now that I have found it and see that it can be used to pay for the cruise, Can it be used over the phone to pay for it through a TA or do you have to book direct with CCL?

  4. We had one of those wrap around balconies on the Miracle in January of 2006. I remember waking up every morning to get a fresh breath of air, only to greet the smell of cigarette butts littering the deck, put there from idiots throwing their butts off the end of the ship. That was the first and only time I have taken an aft balcony cabin.

Since then, they had a fire on another ship, caused by a thrown cigarette butt from above. It was on a port side balcony, but it still haunts me. Supposedly they changed smoking rules after that, but you can't fix stupid.

  5. Miracle in 2020 out of San Diego. Week long Mexican Riviera, then 15 day Hawaii, then Panama Canal Full Transit

Haven’t looked at the ports but MR and PC would probably only repeat one port.

That's a good one if you live near the beginning or the end, but if you have to fly at both ends it's not cost effective. A round trip from somewhere on the East Coast to Tampa is probably cheaper than flying from Tampa to Cali one way.

  6. I was looking at Carnival 14+ day cruises coming in the next couple years and I found something interesting.

September 29,2019 the Miracle leaves Tampa to go through the Panama Canal and arrives in LA on October 12. Also, on October 12, the Legend leaves LA for a trip through the Panama Canal and arrives in Tampa on October 27. That would be so cool if we could do those B2B and just get a RT airfare into Tampa. The only problem is they stop at many of the same ports along the way on both cruises. If they could eliminate the redundancy of the ports, they would probably get a lot more people jumping on the B2B aspect.

Has anybody made plans to do these two cruises?

  7. Thank you! Our trip isn't until January but we're driving in from Ohio morning of, so this information is extremely helpful in determining what time to leave!

You should check into a hotel that allows you to park your car during the cruise. The difference in costs should be minimal compared to parking at the port. They usually provide shuttles to the port. Then you can leave the day before and cut down on the chances of bad weather causing you to miss the ship.

  8. Its one coupon per cruise, and its also good for anything alcoholic.

That's a shame. The VIFP info makes it appear that you would get one every sea day. Now that I think about it, it probably did say "any" sea day. Gotta be a lawyer to deal with some of these "perks".

  9. If I had known about the B2B effect before I booked the Bermuda Cruise, I might have been tempted to go that route. It would have been much cheaper too, however, the B2B cruise would have had the same itinerary as the two previous cruises we had done. Better value for the increase in cost.

  10. We just got off the Pride on Sunday, where I played in the tournament.

Qualifying still works the same, where the top 7 scores get seats. In the final the top score gets to select which seat they want and so on down to the 7th. If you know the strategy here, then there is an advantage to have the highest score.

Qualifying rounds cost $25 for the first attempt and $15 for each retry, even if you retry in a later session.

Winner gets $500 and a certificate to enter a BJ tournament in November (this year) on The Breeze. The walk on entry fee is $500, with a rebuy of $400. With the prize structure I don't see anyone paying cash for a seat on the Breeze's big tourney. First pays 50K, second pays 15K. third pays 10K, and the next 50 get $150. The certificate is transferable, so I suppose you could sell it, but who would pay more than $100 for it, given the payouts? This is the second year for this tournament.

They use the Fun21 tables, and you can use the pairs bonus bets for up to 5 chips. You get 20 $100 chips to start with. My first attempt got me on the board with 3800, but that didn't last. on a later attempt I got 6300 and it held, but there were not a lot of players trying, so 6300 may not be a good number.

In my finals I got to the final hand with $2900 against two players, each with $1500 in chips. They bet all of them (no limit) and I bet $200. One of them got a blackjack and I was toast, but I held on against the other for second.

Much to my surprise, they also gave a certificate to second place. So we are considering going on the cruise. For that reason, I won't give away any strategies at this time!

  11. I think we drink too much coffee to get a single cup brewing machine. My sis has one and we love the coffee they fix, but we go through a whole 12 cup pot every day. We brew it and transfer it right to a thermos so it doesn't sit on the heat.

It could be that you are "drinking too much coffee". I probably was when I brewed a whole pot at a time, even if and when I ended up pouring some down the drain. Using K-cups, you would probably cut down on consumption. I did.

Most "experts" would agree that drining coffee in moderation is not bad for you, but excessive coffee drinking could be harmful.

How does that last pot of coffee taste out of each can versus the first pot when you open the can?

  13. Thanks for this great write-up on coffee. I am also a big K-Cup fan. My favorite blend is Green Mountain Breakfast Blend and the Donut Shop Medium Roast Decaf.

Question - Have you compared prices for K-Cups at different stores? I've checked a bunch of stores and it seems to me that Bed, Bath and Beyond have the best selection and prices.

I buy all my K-cups from coffeeforless dot com. Typical cost is less than 60 cents per cup. I buy enough for the free shipping and it comes within a day or two. Where you are, figure 2 days max. They are quick! I think is comes out of SE PA, so it's a quick jaunt down I-95.
