  1. welcome to my city in Sept.

Hotel right downtown are very expensive - probably one of the most expensive cities to live in within Canada.

I would recommend checking out the Wall Center on Burrard or Someplace a bit further from the pier. The hotels right near the pier can be $$$ but this is shoulder season so that could help.

If you are arriving later in the day prior to the cruise you could opt to stay in Richmond which is where the airport is located.

Taxis from the airport are on set prices now and it is $35 Cdn to the pier from the airport.

The most economical way to get downtown is via the Skytrain which is our metro system. It drops you right at the waterfront about two blocks from the pier.

Hi Vickie - Thanks for the info' about staying near the airport. I have thought of that like you mentioned if I arrive later in the day. Skytrain sounds great to get from the airport area to the port.

    Thanks again.

  2. I've had good luck the last 2 times we stayed in Vancouver using Priceline. You can select specific area(s) on the map you want to stay, what star level, and how much you want to spend. We've wound up within easy walking distance to the port

Great info'. Thanks so much. Will check out Priceline.

  3. Although not cheap the Pan Pacific is on top of the terminal at Canada Place where the ship will depart from. We love the views of the harbor and Vancouver is a beautiful city.

We just take the elevator right down to the ship. ;)

There are lots of hotel choices within a mile or 2 of the pier as well.

Hey Keith - thanks for the info'. I appreciate. Colorado is great. Used to live there.

  4. Am planning a possible last minute cruise from Vancouver to Los Angeles in mid Sept.

Would appreciate any information about hotel accommodations in the area near the port or elsewhere. Just flying in the day before and would like something hopefully near the port. I don't want to spend a huge amount of money but I am not cheap either.

Also would appreciate any advice on getting from the airport to the hotel/from the hotel to the port.

Thanks in advance. Happy sailing to all.

  5. Suit case under the bed. And you can even use that as a drawer for things you don't have to unpack like undies and socks etc.

On a side note, I like to bring along one of my digital alarm clocks from home. You don't have to learn how to operate the alarm on one in your cabin. Something from home is nice to have too.

  6. There will defiantly be something, really a matter of when. We have it on our bucket list to do a canal passage.

    Jimbo,

Canal cruise sounds good to me too, especially ending in my home port.

I am wondering will Miracle then stay in Tampa through April, then go somewhere else for the Summer season returning here in the Fall, or maybe stay here full time, or just do another reposition to another port in the Fall.

Or will she do just the charter and then move on in late Feb?

  7. Now, the plan is for it to open in February of 2016. So you will probably be going to Belize City instead.

Thanks for the update. Have been to Belize City and don't care to go back. The new port sounds like somewhere I would like to visit.

  8. Sailed Legend once in the Caribbean. Love this ship. Very nice layout and just the right size for me.

The ship was not as stable as most others I have been on. We had 8 foot swells one evening and there was a bit of rocking.

So take the sea sick preventatives just to make sure.

  9. I wouldn't think too many kids for a 12 nighter. This must be a repositioning cruise? I took Splendor last Fall from San Juan to Miami and didn't see a lot of children. I would think the time of year you travel would also affect that. I always cruise at off peak times so during the school year.

On that cruise I met an unusually large number of folks who were platinum and diamond level with Carnival. Very seasoned travelers who knew all the ins and outs of Carnival and cruising in general. I had a marvelous time and was quite interesting talking with them.

I have been on 5 Carnival cruises and 1 Celebrity. Celebrity has a very nice product and the best food of all 5 lines I have sailed. I would rate Carnival as a close number 2 for food in the MDR. The service is quite polished on Celebrity, but Carnival does a great job too.

Carnival makes me feel at home, and I have never had a bad cruise yet. Even a 4 nighter on Paradise was fantastic. The service is always friendly and quite helpful.

  10. They should offer a second cheers package (call it the cheers lite program) at $22.00/day in price for a qty of six (6) beer and/or wine only for those who would like to drink, but not get totally wasted.

Great idea, or have a lite program of 25.00/30.00 a day for 7 or 8 drinks, not just including beer and wine. Probably would make more money by leaving things as they are though.

  11. Prime Time Shuttle and Super Shuttle approx $16pp one way-LAX

    Taxi approx $60 (up to 4 people)-LAX

There are plenty of both outside the terminal upon arrival.

Great information. Thanks so much Keith. Thanks to the others for the information passed along too.

  12. Was just wondering the same thing just before I saw this thread.

Certain times of the year like post Thanksgiving there is a lot of capacity from Florida and the demand isn't there yet to keep up with the added capacity.

RCL has tightened up it's close in booking sales that other lines still do, which makes me wonder in low travel times of the year especially, how full their ships are.

  13. Carnival does a great job placing other solo travelers together in the MDR. I have sailed solo twice and have had a very nice time.

I would love if Carnival and the other lines too, would be more solo rate friendly, but I understand, there is the bottom line to consider in any business.

To get a better rate, I like to book fairly late before departure. The 2 solo cruises I have taken, one 17 days before departure and the other less than 2 weeks before, were incredible rates. These did not offer the solo rate, but were so low otherwise, that I was able to travel solo affordably.

Also, I have found that either the repositioning or the one way cruises offer much better rates for solos or non.
