  1. Thank you all so much. We have planned to just go down A1A but heard there was nothing to see but the fronts of hotels and lots of stop lights! I think I'll enjoy just being in Florida, the way our Washington weather has been.

We just want to see a bit of everything. We aren't shoppers; like nature, beaches, museums when there's time, different foods, and just seeing things we aren't used to seeing.

Your ideas are great- thanks again.

  2. Does this sound like it'll work?

We will be at Disney World a few days before we leave Ft Lauderdale on a cruise.

We have rented at car to pick up the morning of our last day in Orlando. We'll pick it up in the morning, drive to see Kennedy Space Center and spend the day, get a hotel in the Cocoa Beach area, then drive to Ft Lauderdale, taking our time and going the scenic route from there to our hotel in Ft Lauderdale that night and return the car. Probably Uber to the port the next morning.

Does that plan sound like it'll work? Too long? Too short? We've never seen Florida except from the airports.

  3. So, I can bring 4 bottles and pay the corkage for either 2 or all 4 to drink with dinner? That sounds reasonable as the wines on board are quite expensive. I think that will do it. Thank you.

If you carry on your one bottle of wine, must you drink it in your room or can you carry it around the ship and into the lido or dining room?

    Have often wondered...

  4. I suggest you take 1-2 pairs jeans, 1-2 pair dockers for dinners, a pair of shorts in case the weather is very warm, probably 4 polo shirts, and a dress shirt with long sleeves for gala nights- it's only a week! The jeans/ shorts are for on shore and the dockers for dinners in the dining room.

  5. We will be on Holland America 's Voyage of the Vikings in August, stopping in St Anthony's, Newfoundland. We would like to see L'Anse Aux Meadows archaeological site but I'm having no luck getting information on getting there. There seem to be no day trips or tours that I can find. Have any of you been there, and can you please advise us? Thanking you in advance.

  6. First time on HAL and I’m about to print my boarding pass plus everything else that goes along with it. That’s 22 pages for my husband and I. Do I really have to print out all these pages? My printer is old and slow, kind of like me!

    Thanks for your replies!

We only print the front page- just read through the rest online.

  7. Since we are on the subject of passport renewal, I heard somewhere that you can no longer get extra pages for your passport. I do not renew until 2019 but only have 3-4 pages left and will need more, and there's something about visa pages vs some other kind of pages too. Anyone know about this?

  8. First time cruise next year - Alaska rt from Vancouver...we're on Deck 5 on Nieuw Amsterdam - wondering if it's ok (ie. safe) to leave your balcony door open at night?? We have Explore 4 pkg. and I'm interested in more info on the "specialty glasses". I understand you have to order a drink in them under the $8 but do you specify you want a specialty glass and then just take it?? Are there any ports where you just wander around and don't get excursions? I know we want to do a float plane and a whale watching but other than that don't have any other plans. Any other don't miss excursions? We want to enjoy the ship as well as "must see" excursions. Thanks!!!

I can't recommend the Deadliest Catch tour enough!!! One of the best we've ever taken! In Ketchikan.

  9. Just wanted to make sure you know the eVisa is only valid for travel to specific airports, it cannot be used if arriving into India via a cruise ship.

Yes, thank you for the concern. We are flying into Delhi before boarding a ship in Singapore. Just sight seeing before our cruise.

  10. Thank you Keith, for the help. I finally have managed to pay for DH's India visa. I was afraid I'd have to go alone! ;)

In order to help others who may be having the same problem- the application is filled out correctly, the passport photo and copy of passport page are to all the many correct specifications, etc- the payment just won't go through-- here is my experience.

I tried many times to submit payment but it would just come back "not submitted". I cleared my cookies and browsing history as someone suggested and that didn't work either. I used my iPad, and that didn't work either. I had already notified the bank there were 2 charges coming through from Bank of India, but they said they were not refused, they just never even reached my bank. Anyway, after losing sleep but waking up to my evisa being accepted, I printed mine out and tried to send his payment again- failure!

So I took your suggestion, Keith and went in to my old desk top, put in the id number they'd given me and tried again. It went through!

So, to everyone having problems, try a different computer (as I said, my iPad didn't work), try different times of day (it was 8PM in India).

    good luck!

ps: after payment was accepted, I got my visa emailed to me the next day.

  11. This board has been so valuable during my trip planning, I hope someone has a suggestion for my problem. DH and I leave in 3 weeks and will travel to India in March. I applied for and had no trouble paying for my eVisa, but I can't get my husband's payment to go through. Any suggestions? I have cleared the cookies, and tried a different card. Thanks!

  12. Thank you , someotherguy, I've had my passport and photos re-sized, so that's done. The website won't even let me on until it is within the 34 day window, so I don't know what to expect there. Your one day experience getting the emailed visa was reassuring, though. Thank you.

  13. We will be arriving by air in Delhi on March 10, 2016 for a pre-cruise tour. Any information on applying for an eVisa would be appreciated. I am nervous because we leave Feb 24 and cannot apply until Feb 6. Is that truly enough time? We are USA citizens.

  14. Can anyone give me up-to-date information on how long it takes to apply/receive your eVisas for India? We will fly into Delhi March 10 for a pre-cruise visit. Their website says we can't apply until Feb 6 but we leave Feb 24 for another tour. Any info on the process would be appreciated. Is it really as easy as their website makes it sound? We just don't want to be late and not get to go.

  15. I have don a little home work on this' date=' We want to do the the 53 day trip in 2017 I can tell you that the Maasdam will be doing it in Sept.[/quote']

Are you talking about Easter Island here? I can't find any reference to Easter Island on HAL's website, but I have a very hard time negotiating their website...

Is the Maasdam going there in Sept 2017? Count me in if it is!
