  1. Hi all...and thanks for your replies.

We used UberX after we dropped our rental car off at the Avis rental office just after 11am. A Hyundai pick us up within 5 mins right at the door. All our luggage was able to fit easily in the trunk, 2 normal size suitcases and 4 average size duffle type carry ons. All four of us fit comfortably for the ride to long beach port from lax. Traffic was good and we arrived just before noon. Very easy and a great ride and transaction.

On the return we again requested a UberX...a nice lady picked us up in less than 3 mins right at port. This was a smaller car but all our luggage again fit with no problems. It was a great ride back to the lax Avis rental agency to pick up our car for more time in LA.

Both our Uber experiences was great! Both trips was $26 each so we paid $52 round trip where shuttle and carnival charges well over $130 round trip for the 4 of us.

Just letting everyone know our UberX experience worked out well for the 4 of us with luggage. But if you're 6'5 and have 3 or more large suitcases then you may want to go with the UberXL.

  2. It's a big gamble to assume that an UberX car will have room for 8 suitcases and 4 carry-ons in additional to the 4 passengers. If I were you I would just assume I needed an UberXL.

The UberX minimum is only a car big enough for the driver and 4 passengers, which can mean a pretty small car.

I don't think I said 8 suitcases? I get that. I was just asking because I'm not familiar with the different sizes of uber cars since I've never used them.

I was just wondering for 2 Children/ 2 adults with 2 suitcases. I have a smaller car and can make do with all of us and 2 bags with our small carry ons which are small duffle type bags not roll ons .... Just asking how strict the uber drivers are or what kind of vehicle I should expect for the uberx price range, and if anyone's been turned away at the airport. Thanks All!

  3. Good Morning:

I posted this question a while ago and barely got a couple of general responses. Just checking again to see if anyone else has had some personal experiences with requesting an UberX. We are traveling from LAX airport to the Port of Long Beach.

I have never used Uber, but heard good things. My question is when requesting, can I order an UberX for my family of 4 (2 adults,2 children 10&12yrs old) with 2 suitcases and small carryons each. Has anyone done this with a similar amount of people and baggage? Have you ever been turned away to order different car?

I just don't want a golf cart sized vehicle arriving and we have to cancel and I get charged and or have to wait on another vehicle , but I don't want to pay unnecessarily for the bigger car if we can make do.

This forum is for asking questions....I did search...but I'm looking for some more specifics that I did not find.

I don't need any negative comments please...Some people get all up in arms when you ask questions that may have been asked previously. Just if you have used uberx in any city for your family of 4 with luggage just reply if it worked out for you. If you haven't or have no experience with my issue, just keep it scrolling. Thanks

  4. I was wondering the same....We leave this month and I have a 12 and 10 year old....they offer pricing for children so I would assume its not a problem.

There doesn't seem to be much to do in Ensenada so I figure the bus ride and site seeing should be a good way to use up time in port and We get to taste some wines in the meanwhile.

We didn't wan't to stay on the ship in port or spend all day looking in small trinket shops. So, we're looking forward too it.

  5. Great questions...I travel end of this month and can't wait for people to reply. We didn't opt for the FTTF so I'm curious to the boarding process without it....On here you see tons of reply with it. I have been looking for other info especially without FTTF what time is best to go to port, especially when the rooms would be ready and or we don't have to sit around for hour. Thanks for posting the question I'll be watching for replies.

  6. Did you notice the lines or amount of people checking in without the faster to the fun? Just wondering how chaotic it is without it? I'm still up in the air about purchasing it...$50 can purchase some more drinks ;)

On formal night is there an up charge for the steak and lobster? or was that just for the nights it wasn't formal night?

Thanks for the review we leave and a couple weeks, can't wait!

  7. I honestly was wondering the same thing....I had been hearing a lot about John's blogs, I went looking as saw it was never updated. Then I started following him on Facebook and he does post a lot there.

  8. We will be cruising into Catalina Island next month and I have been looking at the websites offering rental golf carts.

I was considering reserving a golf cart online, but a had a few questions hopefully someone can give me some input.

Do you feel that reserving is necessary? I see lots of people who have traveled this port many times on these feeds & I was wondering how easy is it to just go up to the rental stand and get a cart without reserving?

This would be late May, on a Tuesday...I understand it depends on other ships being in port and demand that day. But just wondering on average is it pretty easy to get a rental golf cart the same day in Catalina Island or is it best to reserve online? Most website state that if you prebook you will get an extra hour. So that may be a reason to book online. Has anyone gotten the extra hour and not pre-booked?

I'm also worried about #1 carts being sold out, and #2 not being able to tender off the ship at the specified time I reserve and losing the reservation or being late to the reservation time.

Thanks for any info you can provide regarding rental carts in Catalina Island.

  9. We are taking a Carnival Cruise and are considering going on an excursion to a couple of wineries in Ensenda Mexico.

I see they do not have age limits and they do offer kid pricing, so I would assume that children are welcome, but all the reviews I've read never mention children. Mine are 10 & 12 & well behaved, but I don't want it to be awkward.

Please let me know if you have ever brought children on one of these winery tours...or seen children during your tours. I just didn't want other cruise passengers or the winery having a problem with children on the tour.

Stupid question probably...but will the children be able to partake in the snacks i.e. cheese, bread and pizza that may be provided? I would think so being that it's still costing approx $40.00 per child. Thanks for any and all replies :)

  11. With a little planning, you can get all the perks of FTTF without any expense.

Don't waste your money on it.

How do you go about getting the benefit ...while not paying for FTTF? I'm curious? Sailing out of Long Beach in May and don't really know what to expect...I hate lines:(

  12. I have been searching CC for some answers on taking Uber from the Lax airport to the Long Beach cruise terminal.

My traveling party will be 2 adults and 2 children age 10&12 plus 2 large suitcases and we each have small carryon bags.

Has anyone used regular Uberx traveling with 4 people and luggage?

Trying to figure out if I can get away using the regular uberx or should I request a uberxl (more money :/) to travel from Lax to Port of Long Beach.

    Thanks

  13. Thanks for the update...I sure hope they make an accommodation for my girls on the Inspiration...I never thought they would until I read your post....But hey they just might to allow them to stay together. I have an 10 turning 11 the next month after our cruise & 11 (turning 12 year old by sail time) . I would like them both in Circle C. We'll see

  14. So, we take off on Monday March 21. I was finally assigned a cabin:

    M245 (6B)

I am a bit disappointed, but I'm not sure if this is warranted. Any thoughts about this location?

Also, my travel agent said this would fit my family of four. The kids are 8 and 11. I see some cabins have two bunks - but this only has one. Not sure this will fit our family?

Does anybody have any thoughts, based on their past cruises on Inspiration? :)

Regardless, we will make it work - but I wanted to know if anybody can explain a bit more about this cabin location - and how four people fit in this sort of configuration?

    http://i882.photobucket.com/albums/ac30/cgomes3/Carnival%20Inspiration/DSC00796.jpg

I tried to post a link to a pic of the cabin configuration. Or you can just google Carnival inspiration trundle cabin for pics.

Our family of four have used these configuration. My children are 11 & 10. Our next cruise we are on the Inspiration cabin m217. We prefer aft cabins..less motion and closer to the food/pools :)

  15. I tend to get motion sickness as do my kids. We have been using a product called Motion-eze. It is a small glass bottle of liquid, oil-like. We purchased at Walmart under $6 and the small bottle last my family of 3 the whole cruise.

You just place a few drops behind your ear. You can place it before you start feeling queazy or as soon as you start feeling queazy and it still seems to work.

Our latest cruises have been on deck 9 & deck 7. Defiantly more motion the higher you go and the forward cabin cause me more sickness then the middle. HTH.

  16. Question:

If we chose to walk into town you said its about 1 mile. Can we then catch a tour bus to La Bufadora? Also you said your day was about 4 hours- Approx how long was the ride to La Bufadora and how much time did the tour spend there?

    Thanks

Can't wait to hear what your thought of the main dining room food and News Guys Burgers & Mexican spot.

  17. I'd like to apologize for "abandoning" the live review. We got back from our day in Ensenada (last Wednesday) to no wifi. Once it was reestablished, I couldn't log back in to Cruise Critic. This was with the "middle" plan which cost $30 I believe. It was pretty frustrating to say the least because I was really enjoying updating everyone.

I don't have the other Fun Times, but the ones that were posted the week before our cruise is literally identical, so at least that's covered.

I'll try to answer any questions you guys might have, as well as give my review of Guy's, the ship in general, as well as other stuff I find important to review.

That said, we enjoyed our trip so much despite the little hiccups, we're canceling our Royal Caribbean cruise for December and rebooking Inspiration for either late August or mid September.

Great! Welcome back! Thanks for updating us...glad you had a good time overall.
