We did this a few years ago.  Bus to Red Hook, boat to St John. taxi to Trunk Bay. It probably took an hour each way.  It was easy and beautiful.  I loved.  We are going again and February and we will do the same thing.  We snorkeled at Trunk Bay.  Easily the most beautiful beach I've ever been to.

Considering this option. Can you give me an idea of cost for the transport? Did you arrange in advance?  Do you remember how expensive the snorkeling was (equipment)?

  2. Appreciate the answers. I am looking to snorkeling in St. Thomas, also. I am a beginner.  I don't mind a private excursion, but since I am going solo, would prefer not to just cab to the beach but an organized trip.  I've done kayak, hike, and snorkel and it was enjoyable but the snorkeling was my favorite so I am looking for a more focused trip.  That was a small group, too, which I've read some of the ship snorkel trips are like "cattle calls". My cruise is not until Feb, so I'm still looking.

  3. I always budget this into the price of the cruise, pre-pay and don't think of it again. IMO it shouldn't be optional.  I always add a little extra to steward and dining and the amount usually depends on what I have left in cash.  I know that I am not skimping anyone since they have the prepaid already. That said I will probably pre-pay my February cruise before Dec 1 but then wait and pay my Sept 2019 cruise tips after that trip.  The amount of increase is small enough for me not to notice too much, but then I am not paying for 3, 4 or more people either.

  4. I was a little disappointed by this announcement or maybe I missed something. J.H. built this up on his page and the announcement really hams it up, too. Isn't it just another ship refurbishment of which we just got the announcement for the Triumph/Sunrise a few months ago?  Maybe they are going to send it to a port that has limited options or something.  I just don't see the big deal.

  5. I am enjoying your review. I am cruising solo in February and again out of NY next September (on the Sunrise). For those reading along that have solo'd are you automatically seated alone in MDR? Because I would really like to be seated with others or with other solo travelers especially. My first cruise was solo but a singles cruise so I let a lot of people to hang with.

Also, I love cemeteries. Was this one in San Juan near the fort? Walking distance from the port or did you go on a car tour?

    Thanks,

  6. I took the bus once from Miami and checked in at the airport. We waited in line (inside) an hour to check in but then went straight onboard once transported to port. Once we were checked in we didn't wait long for transport. I personally like the assurance of knowing it's taken care of (and paid for). It stresses me out to have to depend on details at the last minute. I have always taken Carnival transport to the airport (when flying).

  7. I think it depends on the personalities and your individual children. My son wouldn't consider doing any of the clubs growing up because he is a bit introverted and enjoys the company of adults or his own self. My daughter went the first night, met some people to hang out with, and never did any of the organized activities. By the time my daughter was 15, I felt comfortable letting her roam the ship alone (but I did enforce a curfew.) We always ate dinner together and did excursions together, though.

  8. It's worth mentioning that they do not refund OBC that is not money you paid in. For Example, if you are awarded OBC as a shareholder or as a bonus from your booking or TA. I have refunded excursions after sailing and had OBC left at the end of the cruise and got a check in the mail within a week.
