  1. I received an email from Silversea today saying that the first landing on the embarkment day has now been canceled and that this provides passengers an afternoon to rest and enjoy the ship. I wonder if there was some issue with this landing? (Bahia Sullivan)We are sailing on the 19th of April. Perhaps others will also be affected.

  2. I found this wonderful information regarding the "wet season". It was found on this webpage.

    http://galapagos2009.wordpress.com/practicalities/decisions-decisions-decisions/3/

"The term “wet” refers not so much to the constant precipitation but to the fact that the early settlers had to rely on rain for fresh water; they could more easily gather water from the thunderstorms and rain showers during this season. During the cool/dry season, the precipitation is typically light mists, which made water-gathering nearly impossible—hence, it was “dry.”

So although it may rain I have read that normally you receive a fair amount of sun. I would certainly stock up on sunscreen and bug repellant as wetter conditions do breed mosquitoes.

  3. Now, why do I suspect that HAL makes sure that email gets to everyone who is relatively new and might miss some well cruised people :D

Last August was out first cruise with HAL. We purchased future cruise deposits and when after we got home we did not receive any sort of offer either by e-mail or regular post.

  4. I was listening to a radio program last Sunday and the discussion as about a US citizen who was in Canada for a holiday in Nova Scotia (I believe). He hurt his knee, I believe and immediate surgery was necessary. He had it done and because he didn't have insurance paid around 2500. That included the surgery, the hospital stay etc. he got back home and saw his doctor who said that the work was fantastic. He checked out what the cost would have been in the US and found out that it would have been 20,000 plus. The world is a big place, with great universities that train expert doctors....

  5. We had 12 for open dining on our Alaska cruise last August. As we were in a Neptune suite (although no one else in our group was) we asked the concierge to arrange table(s) for us for the entire seven days at a specific time. We had two fabulous tables of 6, window side for all seven days. We would change up who we sat with whom and it worked so well. I have heard that normally you can book three days in advance but it never hurts to ask!

  6. When we were there in the month of June, my husband snorkled without a wetsuit. The penguins actually used his back as a diving platform which was very cool.

The water was way to cold for me, even with a wetsuit, but I am a wimp when it comes to water temps.

That is amazing! My DH made a comment about swimming with sea lions close by. Is there some danger in this?

  7. Such diverse opinions. This has given me a lot to think about. I imagine that I would miss my children terribly and by the time we might consider such a voyage there may be grandchildren. We have done 30 day vacations with our kids with us. I guess we will have to go away for longer periods to see how we and they cope.

  8. As I watch our CC friends embark on a World Cruise for 113 days, I wonder if I could do the same. My DH says he couldn't be on a cruise that long but I think I could. So my question is, Do you think you could be away for 113 days if money was no object or are of the mind similar to my husband and think that is way too long to be away from home?

  9. Thank you so much for your review. We sail in April and I am thankful that every month it seems to get better and better. My focus is the Islands and the amazing wildlife but we certainly appreciate nice accommodations and great food. We are feeling good about our cruise in four months.
