  1. And I bet you look sharp in them too! I just called Princess and the nice lady on the phone said exactly what was listed on their web page:

    Formal

When formal nights are held, please observe the dress code in the Traditional Dining and Anytime Dining venues for the enjoyment of all our guests.

    •
    • Evening gowns and cocktail dresses for women

    • Tuxedos, dinner jackets or dark suits with a tie for men

I did mention some of you kind folks were saying the opposite and she mentioned it pretty much comes down to how strict the maître d wants to enforce the rule. So I guess we're getting dressed up on our cruise as we're on vacation and really don't need the stress. Who knows maybe they'll formally change their formal dress code by the summer of 2019. One can hope anyway.

But with regards to what type of shoes to wear, I don't see that mentioned so I guess echo sandals and my boat shoes are good to go!

Was on the royal last month and there were men in polo shirts on formal night. I had a long sleeve shirt and bow tie and almost felt overdressed compared to some people. From my experiences also, even formal night isn’t so formal anymore.

  2. We were docked at havensight and just walked off the ship towards the gate out into the “port stores”. Only one way you can go. I think there was a sign for taxis. There were people there directing cruisers towards the right taxi for certain beaches/destinations.

  3. Which beach did you go to on the $15 tour?

I really wasn’t sure so I had to look at the map. It was mambo beach. There were several beach clubs there to get some food and lounger. Nobody ever came to collect any money for the chair so I’m not sure if they actually charge for them. Looking at the map there were a few places we could have walked to that were close.

  4. Rented a golf cart from Bonaire cruisers a couple weeks ago and we loved it. Got to see the island and did some amazing snorkeling at 1000 steps which is about 25 minutes from the port.

  5. What happened to tipping for above average service?? It is a persons JOB to serve food, clean rooms, do laundry, etc! Yes, workers on cruise ships work hard, so do I. I don’t expect tips for doing the job I’m being paid for. If go above the “call of duty”, then sure. Seems you can’t go anywhere without people expecting a tip just for doing their jobs.

  6. We were there the beginning of January. Taxi from the ship was $9 pp I think and we didn’t need water shoes. We walked along the whole beach and sand was great. Did some decent snorkeling and did see several big sheets of roofing metal and a sign out in the deeper water. The fish have settled in using them as cover.

  7. I cant find a tour that does everything I want to do:rolleyes:, lol. How important is the liquor factory visit if all I really want to do is buy some? Do they have it for sale in the port shops?? Is there a difference?

    Thanks, Gena

Apparently some of the products sold in the shops aren’t true Curacao made. We found a tour right across the floating bridge that was $15 a person that included the distillery where we received some free samples. It made some other stops and we had a beach stop where the people that wanted to could be picked up a couple hours later.

  8. We are just back from Bonaire and enjoyed the golf carts. We went south first enjoyed that portion of the island. The map provided was pretty easy to follow. We stopped a few times along the coral beaches, saw the salt plats, lots of flamingoes, 3 wild donkey, lizards, the bay beach where you can go windsurfing, then to town for lunch and then did the north route to 1000 steps. Looking back we would have spent less time at the other beaches and more time snorkeling at 1000 steps as that had the best snorkeling we have seen. Had some nice interactions with a couple sea turtles too.

  9. this sounds great! and if Bonaire is safe, im not worried aobut going off on my own, but how do you get snorkel gear?

We bought a set of snorkel gear off amazon for $25 awhile back and it has well paid for itself with not having to rent any gear since then.

  10. We did a jnj tour last year. We hiked up to mt qua qua and then went to the falls. Price was $40 each and interesting. The guide met us inside the shopping area right off the ship. There was another couple already there so we all followed the guide to a taxi stand to get a ride. No, he didn’t have his own vehicle. We all thought this was odd but proceeded. The taxi van dropped us off at the entrance to the park and we proceeded to hike up the 2.5 miles to the top of this “mountain”. The trail was a little sketchy at times but we all trekked on. Some great views above the island and the guide was very knowledgeable about his island. When we made our way down, we walked to the main touristy point near there with a few shops and lots of nutmeg shells on the ground. After a short rest and seeing all the other tours unload and load back up in their VANS, we continued to WALK the mile or 2 to the Annandale falls. After our swim he was able to flag someone down and we got a ride into town. We met up with Stan, one of the owners who gave us all a local beer. We paid him our agreed upon cost and headed back to the ship exhausted. I suppose it was our mistake for joining a couple half our age on a hike but it was definitely a memory to share.

  11. I'd recommend it to anyone. There are some tough climbs if you go through the "caves" though. I saw some adults having a tough time so I'm not sure how the little one would do. We didn't go with a group so we couple take our time and do lots of exploring. The place is fantastic because there were lots of little nooks to explore. Once you get to the beach area after the short hike from the drop off, you can choose to go through the whole path or just a little. For ME, it was one of coolest places I've been and the snorkeling was simply amazing. We brought our own snorkel set that we bought on amazon for $30 which we used just about every port. It's not something you see everyday.

  12. Even as a "free" restaurant, the Orchid Garden on the Gem is too expensive.

How is the complimentary orchid garden too expensive?? Are there Friday night and it was yummy. They have options for premium dishes but there are lots to choose from for free. Just make a reservation during busy times. ;)

  13. Just returned from the Ncl gem and had an ocean view room booked. Called a few days before the cruise and told them we were possibly wanting to book a balcony and asked what was available for upsell. We took the deck 11 aft mini suite for $200 pp. They had the room on corner which was ADA accessible which meant the room was bigger and had a bigger balcony. :). 06b454388a0e3df49c3ad66e41299833.jpgd1506e5818d4ab3b4d4ac1bfef9937b9.jpg

  14. So we just returned and I thought I'd throw my 2 cents in. We walked off the ship and asked for directions to the ferry to virgin gorda. Just walk down the street and make a left then a left at the stoplight. A lot of people were heading to the same spot so we couldn't miss it. Fare was $38 round trip from Tortola which included a taxi transfer to the baths. We caught the 9am ferry and they have them coming back at 12:40 and 3:30. We stayed all day, enjoyed some amazing snorkeling and then took the 3:30 ferry back to the ship. Walked onboard at around 4:30 after doing a little shopping by the pier. Didn't see anyone at all doing any kind of water taxi and the taxi ride wasn't long at all.
