  1. In 3 weeks, my 4 year old will do his 7th Cruise. His first was the day he turned 6 months. Funny enough, on this sailing on the Vista we will have our 6 month old for the first time as well (she turns 6 months the day of the sailing too, just like her brother did. LOL)

Cruising with kids is no big deal at all. It’s a great vacation with kids because you don’t have to spend time worrying about lodging and transport. You wake up and you and the kids have been “driven” to a new destination while you slept.

The best two pieces of advice have already been given but I will repeat them as I’ve sailed 7 times with an infant/toddler and can attest. The ships have NOTHING for babies but a pack and play. You will need to pack everything. Figure out the daily diapers/formula/baby wipe needs and add 20% and pack that much times the amount of sailing days.

Secondly, don’t expect to do every on board activity or shore excursion. If you don’t expect much, you won’t be disappointed.

Cruising with little ones is a great time and not that big of a deal. You’ll be fine.

  2. You can board early but your room won't be ready so you have to keep any luggage items you carry on with you while you go to Lido to eat etc.

We buy fttf so we board and go straight to our room unpack and head to lunch.

We just got it for our Sept cruise. It used to be 49.99, it was 69.99 this time. We haven't cruised in awhile so must have went up.

Thanks for the heads up. FTTF is sold out so maybe I will change my time to later...

  3. Check-in time is part of your registration process -- names, payment method, etc. Check-in time will show up as part of that process about 4 t0 6 months prior to your cruise. It is the time you are scheduled to enter the terminal. It is not boarding time and has nothing to do with FTTF.

So I have the earliest time (11:30) and no FTTF. What time will I actually get to board?

  4. I would say Celebrity MDR food is still better than Carnival's' date=' but I wasn't disappointed at all with our dinners in the MDR on Vista. The breakfast and lunch options were head and shoulders above Celebrity's offerings and the MDR breakfast/brunch options were much better than our experience on the Reflection. MDR service was better on Celebrity, but you are paying a good bit more for that experience. We have found that Carnival offers us a good alternative to Celebrity, and allows us to sail more often.[/quote']

As someone who loved the Reflection and just booked the Vista, this is great to hear. Exactly what I would’ve guessed so I appreciate the confirmation.

  5. Totally agree. We love the little Vision class of ships, and dearly miss Enchantment.

Of course Majesty was supposed to have been sold, suddenly that sale was canceled, plus they bought back Empress. The guesses out there are that they bought them to be able to take advantage of the Cuba Market that is opening up. Cuban ports not set up at all to be able to take bigger ships yet.

Was my guess that RCI is simply "parking" Majesty here in PC until they can start up that Cuban market. Empress already scheduled.

Does not make any sense not to have a mid sized ship here in PC. Just once we thought we got lucky when Explorer started a stint of 9 night cruises...was great! But was only for one season, then nothing...even though those cruises were sold out for each cruise.

Now....we have this brand new terminal....but still only two ships. Biggest and smallest...not much choices there. NCL and Carnival have taken over the market pretty well since RCI fell asleep at the wheel. :(

Someone post please as soon as they're on sail! I've subscribed to the thread so my phone vibrates when you message!

I hope they let you go online too. I'd like some ability to look at options and not just book on the phone.

  6. Jason... I don't see cellular at sea. When I checked with my US carrier ( Verizon) online, the Splendida was not available. Other MSC and other lines have this.

Thanks for the update. Hopefully the ship phone calls aren't too exorbitant.

Hope you're enjoying the cruise!! See you Friday!

  7. On it this week. We have a UK sim and bought the surfer wifi package.

I forwarded my US phone/voicemail to Google Voice and can read the messages.

You will likely need to buy the streamer package on sea day to do VoIP to make call. I don't think your phone will ring at sea.

We have been getting phone and data signal close to shore about an hour before and after getting and leaving from port.

Where do you live (mobile so can't see your profile) and where have your phone rang on the other cruises? Line and location?

Hi Chinita, i will be joining you on Friday in Barcelona.

I live in Dubai. I've had what they call "Cellular at Sea" with Royal, Carnival, Celebrity, NCL....lot's of lines have it but I haven't seen if MSC does. If you turn on roaming, you should see a network called "Cellular at Sea" or something along those lines.

  8. HI all, I will be traveling on the MSC Splendida in 2 days. I just found out there may be a few phone calls I will need to make while I am on a Sea Day. I can't find any threads that discuss phone calls/cellular on board. I am not asking about mobile internet packages, I specifically would like to know if my mobile phone will ring at sea as it will on other cruise lines.

    Thanks!
