  1. I am cruising the Reflection next week and I for sure want to take advantage of the onboard booking program as the best way to remedy post-cruise depression is to book another! Does anyone know if the 123GO is available while on board? And are there any added benefits to booking it while on board?

  2. Yes, that's exactly why we chose that tour. First tenders, right to where buses are waiting. Up to winery first, then to Oia and the to Fira. Also nice commentary about Santorini by the guide on our bus. Less hassle than trying on own. We had dinner in a wonderful restaurant in Fia overlooking the water.

Thanks so much for the review, I'm on this same cruise this Monday. This tour you're referring to isn't by chance the "Village of Oia and Santorini Island" tour is it?

  3. Anyone have thoughts to share about Ephesus and the best way to transport my 5 yo and 1 yo?

Ephesus in April via Crystal's med cruise.

I'm wondering if anyone has used or seen someone using a stroller in Ephesus.

The ruins we've been to include all of Egypt, and Rome. So all I can compare it with is that. Egypt I would have found very easy to use a light stroller (except the sand). Rome ruins would have been tricky with all the steps. I suppose if the stroller itself was the cheap light umbrella type it would be easy enough to carry.

We also have several backpack carriers and slings for the baby. He's very happy in them and it would work for a couple hours...after that my back hurts too much.

I'm thinking for this port maybe bring one very light stroller than can easily be folding and slung over hubby's shoulder, but taken out for restaurants, walking, etc...my 5 yo is petite and still loves to nap for hours in her stroller. The baby I can put in the backpack.

(for other ports on this itinerary I'm probably going to go to that specific port's board...definitely have similar questions about Athens.)

Any tips welcome...except leaving the kids on board. Not interested in that. :)

    Thanks!

I know this post is super old, but I am curious how it worked out with you and the stroller at Ephesus? I will be there the end of next week and I have the same issue....1 year old and Ephesus probably don't mix so I wonder how this will work out!

  4. When we sail on main line cruises (HAL, RCL, Celebrity and Princess) my husband wears a sports jacket on our flights, along with a nice pair of slacks and dress shoes. That's his "go to" for the more formal nights and he is usually better dressed than most men in the dining room. If we are on one of the higher end cruise lines, he will usually bring a tuxedo, and then space is truly at a premium (not to mention the prices) but we adjust and use their onboard laundry facilities to bridge the gap.

That said - a pair of jeans, a pair of khakis, a couple of pairs of shorts, a couple of t-shirts, a couple of nice oxford shirts, a couple of polo shirts, and work out clothes. And, of course, underwear, hankies, socks, sneakers, sandals.

As I have mentioned to friends, other guests don't remember what you wore on a cruise, and you won't either once you get home. It's about the journey, not being a fashion statement, although we don't wear jeans in the dining room.

    Enjoy your July Cruise.

This is great info. I'm on the Reflection next week and I'll wear my suit on the plane per your advice!

My wife is annoyed by this however. She likes to be dressed very relaxed on the flight and now she feels she needs to step it up as I'll be suited up!! Haha.

  5. I can't speak for any experience with celebrity, I'm cruising them for the first time in 2 weeks. But I have cruised NCL and people have been making that same accusation about them ever since they came out with freestyle cruising. I haven't seen any evidence of that with them despite the suggestions it exists. But I do love a good conspiracy theory...

I'll report back on my thoughts of your theory after my trip.

  6. It appears that X blew out much of their high end inventory (cc, aq & suites) for the next two years by offering the 123 all-inclusive promo over the winter. Then they took the same approach with balconies. As inventory shrank prices shot up. I booked 4 future cruises last Nov. Current prices are all up by 30%+.

The 2/17 Mardi Gras sailing that baldercash cites is a unique opportunity that sold out quickly. I was fortunate to have booked it the day it listed. $2200 then in cc for a c2, I see that a regular balcony 2d today is over $3300.

The way to play the game now seems to be: book early, book often, and if a better deal comes along later just cancel and rebook.

You are spot on. X blew through sales with the 123GO. And I love your technique. Book early, book often, cancel and rebook.

There's also the risky technique if you don't mind gambling, wait till the extreme last second.

  7. We are docked in Mykonos right now, on the Celebrity Reflection. Celebrity provided free shuttle buses from the dock to the edge of town. There were many of them, never had to wait for one.

Awesome info!! That's also cool that you're on Cruise Critic helping other cruisers WHILE on a cruise...thanks! I'll be on your same itinerary in 4 weeks. Will you be posting a review?

  8. Don't get dragged into paying high prices for a ship transfer. The shuttle boat is just outside the ship dock, really good value and takes you to the town centre. The streets are fine for a stroller and there is a little beach there, nothing fancy but it can get jellyfish so take care

The little one will love seeking out the pelican or watching the cats hang around the sea front fish cleaning stand looking for bits

Thanks so much for your experienced advice. Really appreciate it!

  9. Junior will be much less problematic in Mykonos than other places I can think of.

No worries, do your own thing.

    JB :)

Thanks so much for the tip! Appreciate it.

  10. I will have a 1 year old with me. Do you think this will be an issue? Usually I don't book tours for places like this but having the little one with me is making me think twice. Thoughts?

  11. I went to the site and created a test booking and found the price (in euros) much less than what I paid (even converting the euros to dollars) for the same class. Question is, can a US citizen book through this site and if so, if it is paid with a credit card, would the conversion rate still be less than booking in the US? How would this work?

I am an American but I don't live in the US. I have booked cruises on websites in 3 different countries but in order to get that rate, you must have a credit card in that country. The rates are tailor made to whatever countries site you are on. This does however work for airlines sometimes. You can switch the country and get a lower rate but in my experience, it doesn't work with cruise lines (& I've tried several times).

In regards to the exchange rate, if you have a credit card with no foreign fees, you will get near to the advertised forex rate.

  12. The shuttle that was provided by Princess, that was free? I will be on the Celebrity Reflection in June and I am hoping to just walk around the town as we will have a 1 year old with us. I wonder if Celebrity will have a shuttle?

Do you think if they don't have a shuttle, the walk is too long?

This review is excellent! Thank you for taking the time to do this!

  13. I will echo what Euro-cruiser advised in his 2012 post. Nothing has changed. Although it might be possible to purchase a ticket in advance, experience and wisdom dictates that this is not a very good idea. There are several companies that operate the hydrofoil/jetboats to Capri and their tickets ARE NO interchangeable. Since schedules are always subject to change (and even cancellation due to weather/sea conditions) and one cannot know excactly when they will be able to get to the ferry complex it just makes sense to buy your ticket when you arrive at the ferry complex. This allows you to check the current schedule and buy a ticket on the next boat....regardless of which company is operating that boat. Otherwise, you might find yourself waiting around at the ferry complex for more then an hour why you wait for your particular company's next boat.

    Hank

Thanks Hank. I was trying to save time waiting to buy a ticket as I know it will be busy but it seems that many think this isn't a good idea. So I guess I'll just go there and hopefully the line isn't terrible.

    Thanks!
