What are Bamboo sheets?
They are bedding sets made out of a mix of bamboo fiber and cotton. Most comfortable thing I've slept in in my entire life. !!! Downside is they don't last as long as only cotton

The duty free/tax free allowance of $800/1600 referred to in the quote applies to American residents that are returning to the US. The OP is Canadian, and assuming that they are returning to Canada, as I am sure you know, the Canadian limit applies. Canada does not provide any additional duty free/tax free limit for good purchased in St Thomas.
Yes, you are right ! Only the $800! But it's OK for me...

this applies to US Citizens, poster is Canadian
I don't understand your post????

I am asking myself the same question...

Am I right in saying Alaska cruise tend to to be sold out quite in advance? We took ours in 2007 and booked in June for the last cruise of the season (September) and choices was very low!!!
-
We cruise primarily out of FL, and live in Va. It is always my goal to not spend more than $850 on airfare- for all 5 of us. And 95% of the time I can do this .
Wow ! It would be a dream for me ! I hate paying a lot for airfare ! For our next cruise in March it will be $2200 for the three of us...and we travel 3h00 to get to Halifax to take the plane to San Juan... If I took tickets from Moncton it was $900 more!!!!!!!

I recently got off a cruise and went to both St. Maarten and St. Thomas. Both stores have the exact same pricing so I don’t think you should have an issue getting it from one store or the other. My sheets arrived home shortly after I got home and when I opened them I had a little snag on my pillow case when they were delivered which I was a worried about so I called the customer service and they were so helpful in replacing them. I sleep on these bamboo beauties every night and cant wait to go on another cruise just to get them again.
Just curious, did you pay a lot for them ?

I just clicked on the link on the main celebrity forum - https://secure.celebritycruises.com/cruisecritic/home.do
Nope, doesn't work ! ! !

Actually, the only restaurant that kids are not allowed to dine in is the upscale French one (e.g., Murano on S Class ships). They are welcome at all others.
Are you sure ? Because when I check the restaurant on the website most of them say 10 and up ! ! ! I'll look into it again...
-
I just wanted to point out that your 7 year old is welcome to dine with you at Qsine.
Oh didn't know that ! Good to know ! Thanks ! We might go on captain's night if my DH doesn't bring a suit and tie ! ! ! !

Well now, you all make me wonder about our choice ! We will both be 50 this spring and we have a 7 yrs old boy and we booked an X cruise out of San Juan for the March break. Our first cruise with Celebrity !
We chose Celebrity because we wanted more upscale, less rowdy atmosphère. We love great food, good wine, a nice scotch. We enjoy dancing when we have the chance (although it doesn't happen often) We are planning a couple excursions but we are mainly beach bums, lol, so it will be beach mostly !
We know the specialties restaurant do not accept kids under 10 but that's OK with us !
I hope there is at least a couple of kids his age ! But then again, he barely speaks English ! ! ! Last year we were seating at dinner table in MDR with a couple with a boy his age ! Perfect ! And they could speak French together, they became BFF ! Lol !
:-!

How's this for a last minute inquiry - it's 10:20 pm and we're getting picked up at 6:45 am to fly to Ft. Lauderdale for our Royal Princess cruise on Sunday! On to my question, lol.
We have a set of bamboo sheets ordered from Cariloha in Alaska this past May. Absolutely love them - I would happily toss all my other sheets if I could sleep on these every night, which of course, isn't very practical. So, we plan to purchase 3 sets on this cruise - 1 for us, 1 for MIL, 1 for a friend. We'll visit St. Thomas and then St. Maarten on this cruise. My thinking is that we might get a better deal in St. Thomas since I'm sure they're aware of itineraries and will know we're heading off to St. Maarten the next day to possibly spend our money there. Hubby thinks we might get a better deal in St. Maarten...I can't even remember his rationale for this at the moment ;) We do plan to take advantage of their free shipping so we don't have to add the weight of 3 sets of sheets to our luggage on the way home. So, given all of that, where would you buy the sheets - St. Thomas or St. Maarten? Or, does it really not matter as neither shop gives great deals?
Don't want to disappoint you but although they are wonderful to sleep in, bamboo sheets do not last ! They wear out very fast, too much for me anyway !!!

Success! It went through the first try yesterday - couldn't believe it! I was so surprised I just sat there and stared at the screen. LOL
OK where do you go to register, what path do you take ?

Self disembarkation on Summit's December 14 sailing started at 7am. The ship was cleared by customs by 6:30 that morning.

Yes, there are hotels in OSJ, but not nearly as many as over in the Condado/Ocean Park/Isla Verde area of San Juan.
I believe most of what's in OSJ are more "boutique" type hotels. I'm not sure how others would classify them. Then there is the Sheraton right at the pier that is one of the "chain" hotels. I've stayed there a couple times. It was ok. Nothing special.
I've also stayed at the El Convento, again what I would consider a "boutique" hotel. Dating back to the 1600's it was a convent that was recently converted to a hotel. It's absolutely beautiful. The decor is really nice and the rooftop pool area is very pretty. The only downside is it's a little on the pricey side. We definitely had a very pleasant stay there, though.
Thanks! I can't wait for this trip to happen... not used to book so much in advance!
-
LOTS of hotels, just look at Tripadvisor.com or look here in the ports of call section. We stayed a Villa Herencia in Old San Juan, and loved it!
Thanks, I'll look at those for sure!
;)

Enjoy your rental in OSJ. I've already booked mine for next January and I can't wait!
There must be some hotels in OSJ? We cannot take an extra 3 days pre-cruise (not enough vacation time GRRR) but we could spend an extra day for sure and I think it would be nice to be in OSJ... What do you think gang?
-
We love OSJ and wish Celebrity would bring back the 10-night cruises. We only did one and had a blast on the Millie.
NOOOOO!!! If they do 10-night cruises, we won't be able to go! For a 7-nights, going 2 days in advance and another one to come back we need 10-11 days right now... Can't take longer vacations!!!!
-
I don't mean to add more choices/confusion to your decision, but if you're looking for a kid friendly cruise that is a little more upscale than Carnival/NCL, but not as formal as Celebrity, what about Royal Caribbean?. My children have cruised with us since they were 7 and 9, and RC has always been a great choice for them, especially the newer, larger ships. We did a family cruise on Adventure of the Seas in 2006 and everyone had a great time.
LOL! No problem! I will look into it! :D

You did post this on the other cruiseline boards, right?
They are all good in my opinion and I've not had a bad cruise on any cruiseline yet.
Last week on Equinox 10 nighter I found many more bars than I expected, but they were not usually very busy except the martini bar. And I did not see one person in the nightclub. But as others mentioned, a 10 nighter usually has a more senior group of passengers (on other cruiselines as well).
Food is subjective and only you can decide what is "best" for you. I like Celebrity's food, but really like NCL's as well and have never had a bad meal on them. Carnival's is ok too; i can find something to eat but I won't likely rave about it unless it's from Mongolian Grill.
There were hardly any children on our Equinox 10 nighter; my nephew went to the kids club a couple times and maybe 8 kids were there.
For formal nights I wore a sun dress with a little jacket. Most people were dressed up.
I think Celebrity & Princess have more elegant decor than Carnival or NCL. But that doesn't matter too much to me; I'm on a ship and that's what matters. And we have found nice and not-so-nice people on every cruiseline.
Hope you have fun on whichever one you choose!
Thank you for the info!
Yes I did post on the other thread but did not get any replies...
I am a bit like you, the decor doesn't matter much for me. Same in a hotel room... is the bed comfy, am I enjoying the trip/cruise? That's what counts! And we make sure to bring our good sense of humour with us and leave the grumpiness at home!!!!;)

I sent a price-quote request to my TA yesterday... :):)
