  1. Thank you for understanding! I had a nephew who had psychological problems all of his young life. One night, after an encounter with several neighborhood kids who repeatedly made fun of his odd behavior, he became increasingly despondent. His family tried to calm him down and called the paramedics for help. Before help arrived, he slipped passed his parents and climbed up on the roof, screaming that he couldn't deal with life anymore. As my sister and her husband begged for their son to come down, he jumped, just as the paramedics arrived. He died three days later from severe internal injuries suffered after hitting a retaining wall two stories down.

I know what it is like to lose someone to suicide, and have made peace with it. It was his decision to jump, no one else's. At the time, in the early 60s, there wasn't the understanding and support system available today to help emotionally unstable people cope with life, especially for young people. Although it was unfortunate that he took his own life, the prospects for his future was bleak.

Sorry for the depressing post. I just wanted to let people know that I am not a cynical, uncaring person.

Sometimes we read words that come off so cold and heartless, it's nice to know there is more to the story. That person has alcohol to blame for their stupid action and will sober up. Anyone thinking one kind of tragedy is less and not deserving of compassion because of the circumstance is something else in my book. I doubt there will ever peace to be found when a young life is lost. Sorry to hear about your nephew, can never be easy for the parents.

As a poster claimed, an employees jumping is not the same as an idiot, or another, not to stop and let them die, really? So ,one is going to end up less dead, one family is going to hurt less, one PARENT is going to mourn the loss of a child differently. The mental state of a nation needs to be checked if you ask me. She did not value her life, thanks to alcohol, and so many her seems not to value hers, let here die. Some of us are alive despite our less than perfect decision, a few really, really, really dumb ones. The drunk will sober up, the stupi might come to their senses, but the uncaring will show up and evaluate how things happened.

The lawsuit is crazy but no crazier then thinking one tragedy is different due to the circumstance.

  2. Spend some time on the Princess board. The Royal is getting very mixed reviews from the loyalists. It is a gorgeous ship no doubt.

I love mixed reviews. I am not seeking perfection. I need a beautiful ship, a more laid back vibe to keep my overactive butt in check, and quiet moments to remind us that we made it so far. Twenty years of marriage, 19 years survivor of double open heart surgeries and dh 16 years survivor of prostate cancer. We are 49+ and 55.

We could have done this at home because our vacation is an extension of our daily lives. We live every day to the fullest. Cancer and heart ailments give you an interesting perspective on living.

  3. You know that I'm going to be waiting for your return from the Royal Princess and looking for feedback! I wish that MY countdown clock said 29 days!! :o

I am really excited because it's new and different. Carnival is fun but I did not want it for my anniversary. I am on this massive attempt to take off enough pounds to get into a dress, I might have no right trying to fit in:D

  4. Applebee's has always been a miss for me and no Golden Corral in my next of the woods. I dress lovely at the end of day, because DH loves it, good or so-so food. I would love to find an Applebee's with Carnival mdr quality. My last cruise I packed 14 formal outfits.

  5. Can't stand the smell of smoke. That being said, I enjoy the smell of a fine cigar and/or pipe. The cruise lines should invest in a smoking lounge with the appropriate ventilation system. The old jazz club but with a great filtration system.

Are you enjoying this thread and the fun times as I move away? When cruising doesn't answer your vacation needs, move to land resorts. In Mexico you can get a good Cuban cigar. Yes, I have a pic somewhere :D

  6. I love how people complain about people smoking on balconies and the bad smell. As someone who enjoys a cigar after dinner, Carnival should build a dedicated Cigar bar where people can enjoy a stogie/cig and not allow smoking on balconies.

Princess and NCL have dedicated cigar bars.

That's my only real problem with Carnival. That and they don't enforce the dress code very well in the MDR.

Wrong thread, this is not a complaint thread:D:)

    Thanks for the times

    That you've given me

The memories are all on my drive

    And now that we've come

To the end of our cruise

    There's something

    I must share in pics

  7. The purpose of starting this thread is showing that although Carnival was not as great as my previous sailings, this one was fun and memorable. If these pics represent a bad cruise, then I take good times to a new level.

Given the opportunity, I don't wish to cruise every year and definitely not on the same line every time. I love Carnival for the fun, Princess for the elegance, and RCL for the ingenuity in design.

  8. Personally, if a person wants to end their own life, I feel that is their choice and I have no right to question why..

Maybe it did happen to someone close to her and it was/is unfathomable.....I didn't read her post as being unsympathetic.

Maybe and I guess these things affect us differently. All I have is questions to why? I hope it didn't because it not easy to live with.

As for the rest, I still it was clearly stated she had no sympathy for the person. I stated due to my less than brilliant acts, I tend to pass sympathy on easily. No need for the pot to call the kettle black. (no pun intended:D)

  9. Personally, if a person wants to end their own life, I feel that is their choice and I have no right to question why.

Oh my dear, from personally knowing teens who have made this decision, it's haunting. The act takes a part of you with them, so lets hope this is never someone you are close to.

Sympathy doesn't cost me anything, from someone who have had their fair share of not so brilliant moments. Before I learned to swim, at 43, I decided it was a good idea to jump into the pool. Ok, it was in the sahllow end and I am almost 6 ft tall but I panicked. I was cold sober so I didn't have alcohol to blame.

  10. I just got an email from Carnival - exclusive sale for California residents! I haven't opened it yet, and I'm pretty sure it's the same cruise that we are taking on Princess 2/1. Nice thing about Princess is that we get a $100 on board credit for military service. We've never ever received any on board credit with Carnival.

Yes, we got that too for our next cruise. I love Princess to really take it down a notch, chill, and appreciate every moment. Enjoying my first cup of coffee each morning on the aft deck. You are truly touched by the elegance and beauty. I chose not to do a free cruise on Princess because I wanted to savor the return for the Royal Princess. Since it has been a few years, let it be like the first time. Each of my trip is chosen for the occasion, which is rarely the cheapest one available. I don't choose Carnival because its cheap because I refused to sail the pink elephant known as the Splendor when it was on the west coast.

  11. There are many threads devoted to why Carnival has become a bad choice any 3, 5, 10 , 20 cruises. Some people sit around and wait for the boom or ax to drop, others keep sailing along with each new booking. Unless there is a great deal on Princess for Alaska, I can safely say I am done with Princess for awhile. Other lines, ships, and vacations to try. I am looking at NCL next.

Chances are I will return for this:

  12. Did you buy them at WalMart? :D LOL! BTW, I shop at WalMart but early in the morning when I know the brats are still in bed and Mom hasn't gotten out of her night gown yet. We have very limited shopping in the town I live in - rural.

I take my teen DD to Walmart and it adds up quickly with all the lotion and potions she needs.

Gowns shipped directly from CHINA:D I know if I don't place a order they are wondering what's going on.

Since I am not in the phase of life or reach a certain status to knock Walmart of China, its nice to look back and be reminded why the trips were memorable.

These are all taken on my lst Carnival cruise so clearly the chances did not seem to damped the trip as much as I had whined. It's nice to llok back before moving on or away.

  13. The cigarette smell coming from balconies and how Carnival has cheapened the cruise experience is what I don't miss. As they say, you get what you pay for and I don't want to pay for that. I don't miss the barker in the gift shop where people are jammed in there and elbowing to get to the trinkets made in China. I could have smashed that microphone down his throat - that's how obnoxious he was. I felt like I was in WalMart at Xmas, I couldn't get away from there fast enough.

My gowns were made in China and I was at Walmart during Xmas or the 60" big screen TV:eek:

My cruise on the Royal Princess is the same rate as the one I booked on Carnival, granted the Cove Balcony verses the inside. As for getting what you pay for, I will see in less than a month.

  14. After 6 Carnivals and lately 2 Princess, there is nothing I miss about Carnival. Stale cigarette stench? Don't miss. Rowdy guests? Don't miss. Old movies? Don't miss. Bad pizza? Don't miss. Sewer smell? Don't miss. 2 things I do miss: steel drum band and the old burgers and hot dogs.

Thank you. If we miss something then we know the time spend was worth it. This is about why Carnival is special, fun.

Someone might look at these pics and say the rowdy guests were she and her son:D We had fun and going through the pics reminded me of how much.

WE took the time to dress up, so far from Denny's casual.

  15. I am missing somethings already and I haven't sailed another line as yet. Now, for some Carnival is the cheaper line but for me it was the fun line that I would be willing to pay premium for. From my last cruise what I will miss leaving or when/if I return. I try not to do the same vacation or same line too often
