  1. Women generally have much more leeway in regard to dress code and I have seen some shockers over the years. Flip flops for formal nights!! It’s worth remembering though that aboard ship a sort of dictatorship exists and it is possible if any passenger refuses to comply with the dress code, in theory they could be removed by security, though I have never seen this happen thankfully.

And you will never see it happen because the cruise line wants to make money amd by doing that they will loose Customers and they don’t want that.

In other note wow flips flops on a formal it’s too much. :o

    o

If Cunard allowed people to wear what they want, at dinner they would lose lots of regular passengers who love and enjoy the formal times.:D

  2. She is not the Queen Mary 2. Standard of dress is disappointing. If you are on Cunard you should be prepared to make some effort to follow the dress code.

Having a great time and will do a review when we return.

I think Cunard could do a bit more to inform passengers about the dress code, when sending out info about the tours, luggage labels etc, why not put a letter reminding passengers what the dress code is?;p

  3. We have just booked our first Cunard cruise and would appreciate some help with a couple of questions;

Soda Package - I can see if mentioned in the FAQ section but when I log into the Voyage Personaliser I can't see any way to purchase. Is it a case of phoning to purchase like the Wine packages?

Wine Package- Am thinking of purchasing this for my mum. She has a favourite wine, which luckily is listed in the wine package. If I buy the package, is it the same as other cruise lines, can she order the same bottle of wine every night?

Shops on board - My teenage daughter is delighted to hear there is a Michael Kors shop onboard. Can anyone advise if it the usual bags/purses/watches or if they also sell the clothes line too?

What other shops are onboard? Anything else that may appeal to a teenager with money burning a hole in her pocket? :D

Pricing -not a question, more an observation. We've cruised a fair bit and always assumed that Cunard would be waaaay out of our price range but we've actually found it pretty reasonable, indeed cheaper that the Disney/NCL alternatives that we were looking at. Appreciate no port fees for a transatlantic but still delighted by the cost. If we like it we'll be booking again for next years space week cruise.

You are permitted to take some drink on ship when boarding , your mum would be able to have a little drink of her fav wine in her stateroom any time.;p

  4. What if (I’d imagine this is the case) most people are booked via Cunard fare and there’s more wanting early seating than can be accommodated? Having to accept it may not be possible to have a chosen seating sometimes is part of the Britannia deal, if you want a guarantee of being able to eat at a certain time, you book Club or the Grills.

I agree about the Grills, but I think you would get a shock how many take the saver fare.

  5. Well what was the outcome , have they sailed yet ?

Hopefully it's a computer glitch. As you too have sailed with Cunard you know what the procedure is, more often than not the Maitre d' will try and sort it out within a day or two.

I'm afraid to say, even booking the 'Cunard fare' is not always a full guarantee for the benefits of our dining requests.

At the end of the day, it is all down to how far in advance a guest/customer has made their booking. ;)

I do think if a person paying the Cunard fare, even booking a week before the sail date they should be given a table the sitting they want over the a person who book their cheaper fare.

  6. The amounts Cunard will miss out on are very small.

Example: we pay deposit of £100,00 on credit Card (minimum under law) @ 1.5%, with deposit balance on debit card. Final balance on debit card.

£1.50 is not a great loss to Cunard.

If you pay the balance by debit card, why not pay the deposit the same way? For such a small amount.

  7. The Yanks in our household have long chuckled at the "smart jeans" term in the Cunard literature. We think of the adjective "smart" as applied to clothing as something said in the UK, and generally not a part of American English. Cute, quaint, and corny.

BTW, Levis, both black and blue, are a constant part of my wardrobe. I wear them frequently during the day on QM2 with no disapproving glances from either Miss Manners or Hyacinth Bucket. And I do carefully adhere to the dress code after 6:00.

When looking at your cruise history, I notice you have done most days on ships, which I think would require some sort of dress code. I have never owned a pair of jeans not my style, nor can I understand how anybody can go for a evening meal wearing jeans. I have no problem with people wearing jeans, but they have a time and place to be worn.

  8.;p

I have always wanted to take a cruise on one of the Queens. My late husband was Scottish, and we made many trips to the UK over the years, loving all things British. He passed away before we could get on a cruise.

I have since remarried, and my new husband is also a great traveler. We have been all over, but never on a Queen. Why? We couldn't agree. I wanted a TA, and he was totally opposed. He did not want to spend 6 days on a ship, as he says " not seeing anything". We have done several cruises, Alaska on NCL, Panama canal on HAL, and most recently Norway's Fjords on the Koningsdam. Finally, we have found a compromise.

We have booked the QV for a Baltic on 7/16/2019. We are in QG 5190, a wraparound on the stern. There are 3 sea days, so I will be happy. We also have many ports to visit, so he will be happy.

So, tell me what to expect on Cunard. We don't need water slides and rock walls, and enjoy just being on the ship and all of the great ports. We both wore uniforms to work, so we really like to dress up. No problem there, although the tux is kind of scary for him. We may do a black suit with fancy accessories. We love different kinds of food, and learning about things. Thanks in advance for any advice. Can't wait!

I am thinking you now live across the pond, with the cruises you have taken and the the date you are going on your Q.V. cruise is the American way i.e. month first then the day, plus hubby not keen on a Tux. I am sure you will find it a wonderful adventure My wife and I love the Q.V. it is our fav ship, we have done over 50 cruises with Cunard and are doing the Baltic again in Aug 2018 the staff are so helpful nothing is to much trouble for them to help if you have any problems. The Baltic Cruise is great many good ports of call. Just enjoy.

  9. Compensation ?? Because you got sick ? I find this concept beyond absurd. People get sick, at home, on vacation, on planes, in hotels, at Disneyland, in Times Square, at the Eiffel tower ~~~~~~~ everywhere.

    And ?? somehow ??? compensation should come from S O M E W H E R E ????????

Many people have taken a virus on board ship, and have not known, a virus can take days to develope. At check in we are given a health form to fill in, do we always tell the truth when filling the form in? This form is a legal document a could be used against the people who have not been truthful. Always easy to blame some other person.🤑

  10. Why not wear a tux? if you feel relaxed, and makes you feel good, I also think it looks smarter than somebody in a ordinary jacket with no tie. I hope the day never comes on Cunard when people just choose the dress they think is good enough. I think some men would arrive in shorts, jeans and base ball cap. It s amazing how many people who travel with Cunard just for the dress code, at least it looks like these people have made a effort to look smart.

  11. The coach company Cunard hire to transport people from Lancashire to Southampton, all have seat belts fitted, and the driver always asks the passengers to use them, if they do not use them and the coach is involved in a traffic accident I would assume they would not be covered for any claims that may be needed.

  12. At one time you could purchase a cans of coke, but no longer, only bottles at inflated prices, cans of Pepsi can still be obtained on ship.I was told by a waiter, Carnival could not agree on the price they wanted to pay Pepsi Cola for the cans. I am only saying what I was told, only Carnival will know the true story.

  13. Yes but its when you add up the $100 here and the 15% there and just that transfer cost etc they can actually quickly end up costing a 1/4 or so of your holiday cost. Usually though those of us who are aware of such things actually live every day like that (& such careful budgeting is rewarded with being able to take a trip on a Queen or whatever "luxury" we choose). I realise that these days I do have a bit more leeway in being able to say "ok we'll just get a taxi" or "if we have to pay for an extra bag so be it" but old habits die hard & it was taking care of the pennies that got me to this point so I'd never knock anyone trying to do the same :)

Forgive me if I am wrong, but you sound just like me, a senior citizen, I also looked after the pennies, we had in days gone by, and now we can go on cruises.;p

  14. Shocking behaviour but the question is whether this was a one off and as a result of too much alcohol. A reprimand and warning would seem reasonable. One would argue that a ban from being served any more alcohol would also seem appropriate.

I don't believe she should be kicked off the ship but then I wasn't there to witness the incident.

I wonder what would you have done if you ran a small hotel, and this persons action upset other guest?
