Was interested in finding out how easy it would be to rent a car for the day in Santorini. I am interested in visiting Oia and the Santo Winery as well as wandering Fira. If anyone has any suggestions that would be great:) We figured renting a car would be the easiest way to see everything we want but if public transportation is easy enough we wouldn't mind that either. We will be there late august so we figured it would probably be very busy.
Thanks for any advice :D
this post s an interesting read on Santorini..

we have reserved an ATV.

so what if anyone is 18 or 78.. it's their balcony and if they want to catch a nice breeze what business is it of anyone else? if you can see them by peeking around or handing over your balcony just mind your own business.

last time I was in RVN I wore the same 'outfit' for a week or more including the same boots. you better hope your boat has industrial a/c,. get the sunscreen with the bug repellent in it and use more than you think you need. unless of course you go during monsoon season then you have a whoe different set of challenges.

We applied for our passports on May 1 and received them on May 10th without paying for expedited service. Mine was a renewal and The Hubbs' was his first application.
The only glitch was that his original birht certificate wasn't good enough because it did not have his parents' names on it. He was able to get a new BC same day at a different government office.
seems to me that would be worthless.. how do you even get one without your parents name on it?

Good stuff. I'm not intimately familiar with those two cameras, but from what I understand the Panasonic has an HDR mode which could be a killer feature. The key weakness with any digital camera these days is dynamic range, and that's what HDR tries to address.
thanks, I don't expect to get anything close to the quality of your pictures.. just hoping for solid snapshots.

awesome post and pictures.. I have bookmarked this and your other DIY tours. We are planning to purchase a new P&S for the trip and wondered if you had an opinion comparing the Panasonic Lumix ZS20 vs the Canon PowerShot SX260? We really need something that will go into a shirt pocket or purse.
We have already reserved an ATV from Markos and I'm working on getting the wife to ride the mules up.
thanks for any help.. Mike & Sally

And yet the countries that we can travel to on a closed loop cruise still do not require us to have passports. Guess the US isn't the only out of date country;)
no, these countries would be poorer than they already are if they tampered with the tourist industry they want tourist money more than they care about a passport.
-
again odd man out.. I'm looking forward to no email/internet for 12 days.

don't care if anyone has one or not.. but, if interested in spreading the impact. get each person one for their birthday.

My daughters are adopted, and they are requesting original birth certificates from their birth country. I can't even imagine what it might take to make that happen, but I'm pretty certain it won't happen by our travel date even if it's possible.
There is a Federal Law called the Child Citizenship Act that pertains to our situation. There is even a section about it under the passport section of the State Department's website, that states exactly what you need to apply for a passport for your child. We have provided all of the information they need. They absolutely do not need an original foreign birth certificate, and I have no idea why they are asking for it. It could only possibly pertain if they are under the mistaken assumption that they are our biological children that happened to be born outside of the U.S. I would have thought the certified adoption decrees included with our paperwork would have cleared that up.... but who knows?
simply get your facts together and contact your congressmen or senator. they will resolve it quickly.

Kind of OT: I know everyone still refer to khaki pants as "Dockers". Dockers as a brand don't exist anymore. Levi Strauss ditched it. Some of our younger people here may not know what we are referring to with that slang. Maybe we can come up with another common name...
Dockers are still available in Canada. Quite popular.
Huh?
this news may comes as a surprise to the Docker folks.

JC Penny
Macy
Khols
Amazon
Zappo
Walmart
on and on..
BTW, khaki is a color that is generally associated with chino style pants (probably left over from the military referring to their khaki colored summer uniform as 'Khaki's')

you're 18.. relax and enjoy yourself. clean, neat, well fitting are more important then style or price. shine your shoes, press your shirt and pants, throw on a tie and you will be fine.
-
when not with the wife I generally take the stairs to avoid fat women who wear too much perfume and/or screaming kids whose parents think they are so cute.
-
You all realize you're responding to a thread thats more than 4 years old?
no, I was responding to the several posters ahead of my post from today. but thanks for your concern.

We cruised on the Freedom, and the balcony dividers are translucent. They are also easily peeked around. Little kids are notorious for being peeker-arounders, and their parents probably don't want them getting an eyeful.
I second the no-sun thing. Balconies are in shade most of the time. We didn't have a "suit optional" area on that ship either.
Cameras can be anywhere... I just figure "an hour to avoid tan lines, forever on YouTube." NOT worth it! :D
Your best bet if you like nude or seminude sunbathing is probably to find a clothing-optional beach at a port of call. :)
then I suggest the kiddies parents monitor their activities. I think you are safe sun bathing however you want just so long as you don't smoke a cigar. that will really cause folks to get their undies in a wedge. I would question why folks are leaning over or peeking around to see what someone else is doing on their balconey.
-
if you want to use the stairs use the stairs.. if folks want to wait for the elevator why would it be a concern of yours? also, anyone bold enough to try to correct/educate someone else's kids should mind their own business. the husband evidently has better manners the the poster who thought it was her duty to correct children not her own.
really people.. it's a cruise, relax and enjoy.

the same folks who cry it's $120 for a passport will wizz that and more away on booze the first day. again it doesn't impact my cruise but frankly I wouldn't go back to Mexico on your dime. The Caribbean was fine a couple of times but out of the tourist area the tin shacks reminded me of sites I saw during my time in RVN.
as far as the big brother thing.. they isn't a thing they don't know about you whether or not you have a passport.
-
$120 currently is not an excessive cost to anyone considering a cruise. do whatever makes you happy. but, if the case should arise where you would need one please don't play the 'dumb/I didn't know' card. whether or not anyone has a passport or not won't affect my flight/cruise one way or the other.
-
without knowing how tall you are or what color your hair is it's hard to know but but number 2 style and color but 'jersey' ?

You never had an Airport Security Screener look at your passport and ask if you,had a drivers license?
never. I use to fly many many miles back before retiring.
-
For passengers returning on a close loop cruise, the BC+DL combo is equally valid as a passport.
I think most are in agreement on that.. and hopefully everyone is in agreement about the need for a passport for a Med cruise, etc. I believe the wizzing contest involves if someone would need one if they had to bail out of a closed loop cruise and fly home. IMHO it would certainly cut down on red-tape and expense. Yeah, I know about the Carnival cruise deal which I think was probably handled at a much higher level then a single/couple having to bail and fly home. Not much national PR involved in that. If you feel lucky go for it.. chances are hugely in your favor. Again, there are certain documents everyone should have stashed at home whether they plan to cruise or not. One being a certified copy of your and your kids BC. Your original SS card or a replacement issued by the SS folks. If were in the military your should have a certified copy of your DD214. Death certificates of anyone closely related.
