  1. It is the NCL customer service advising us we have to check-in before we can leave our luggage with the porters.  Her exact words were " we are directed to tell you, you must check-in before leaving you luggage with the porters." the word "directed" in her reply seem to indicate we could leave our luggage, but she could not confirm it.

  2. We have cruised over 20 times with Carnival, Royal Carribean most recently one year ago, and twice with NCL (many years ago).  We have always dropped our luggage with the porters, tipped them and parked our car, or went sightseeing till our boarding time. We are cruising the POA in a month and planned to drop our luggage at pier #2 in Honolulu and then do the Arizonia Memorial prior to boarding the ship.  NCL is telling us we have to check-in before we can drop our luggage.  Can a few of you comment on the correct info? or is NCL just quoting Protocol?

A couple in our group sailing on the Pride of America does not fly out of Honolulu until Saturday night at 11:32pm after debarking.  I'm guessing NCL will make them debark around 11:00am that morning. They are reluctant to rent a vehicle, so they are considering shopping and sightseeing until they taxi to the airport around 3 hours before their flight departs.  Does anyone have an idea what they could do with their luggage until they taxi to the airport?

    Here's our quote from Go808:

    Aloha,

Thank you for your request. Yes, we can provide transportation between Cruise Port and drop you off at car rental by the airport.  The cost is $50.00.

If you would like to make a booking with GO808Express, please reply with the following information:

Time you would like to be picked up from Cruise Port.

Thanks @ERNLYN for the information! Since it's only a few dollars more than the Uber we would need for 4 of us with luggage, we decided to do the private vehicle, since you so highly recommended them! Don't worry, I won't blame you if something goes wrong. LOL! Some cruisers have reported that Uber drivers have been denied access inside the port area, so we don't want to chance it!

We are going with 808 may be a little more but I like the RSVP to assure a p/u on time. Thanks to the person who refered us to Go808, and thx to Princeton for their info.

Sounds well worth it! Haven't got our quote yet. I was going to have our nephew pick us up but this sounds much better to me and easier for him! He will be arriving Honolulu the day before us and has never been to Hawaii, so will not know his way around. We both rented a vehicle since there will be 9 of us total. Will let you and others know what our quote is, as well.

    Sounds good.

Good, we can compare quotes! We arrive to Honolulu port from Celebrity Solstice on Sunday, October 1st.

Hello Sal, we are debarking from NCL Pride of America on Saturday Sept 16th.  Here is Go808's reply.

    Thank you for your inquiry.

The requested quotes for your transfer as follows. (Quotes does not include gratuity to your driver)

From Cruise port to Honolulu airport:

     2 passengers - $40.00

    4 passengers - $50.00

    8 passengers - $95.00

Reservation requests will be based on availability at time of reservation submission.

    Not too steep.

Well, crap! Our cruise ends in Honolulu in October and we are also needing transportation from the cruise port to the airport to pick up our rental car. I have just assumed that there would be plenty of transportation available as we exit the cruise terminal or am I wrong? Hope someone can advise.

I feel your pain! We are having the same problem.  Hawaii probably has this set up this way to "share the wealth" so to speak between the shuttles and taxis. I just ran a dummy booking with SPEEDISHUTTLE, for 2,4, and 8 passengers from port to airport. Respectively $40.00/$81.00/$143.00 incl tax and fees.  Not as cheap as a cab, they got us, what are you going to do!  Hope this gives you some insight,

Don't know the earliest, but two weeks ago, we dropped luggage off around 10 am and were not the first.

Thank you mskaufman for your reply.  Interested to know if anyone knows of earlier drop offs?

  10. Would like to drop off luggage at "pier #2" with the porter prior to boarding then go sightseeing.  Can anyone advise what is the earliest you can drop off luggage and leave port?

  11. TlJcruiser, So sorry Iam so dense,

Brewster was referring to Lanai Airport which is on another island.  To which island or islands are you referring to regarding

    The $20.00 cab ride?

    The "car rental shuttle"?

    The Avis/Budget shuttle?

Which island did you use Discount Hawaii Car Rental?

We just got back.  Rented a car from Budget.  They have a shuttle (shares with Avis) that picks up right at the pier however the NCL rep at the pier directed us to a cab and said Budget does not pick up at the pier.  Had we continued walking the way we were headed (past the NCL employee) we would have exited the building and seen the sign that said car rental shuttle.  Instead, he directed us to exit to the left where there were waiting cabs.  No problem getting one, but it was fairly early.  I think we were off by 8:15ish.  The cab ride was $20 to the airport.  Once at Budget they told us they run a regular shuttle and that we would be able to take it back to the ship when we returned the car.  We kept the car overnight and just parked on the street as did many many others.  It is a short walk, less than 10 minutes and my mom has knee issues and walks slow.  Had it been just myself and my daughter it would have been less than 5 minute walk.  We left super early the next day to get to a Napoli Coast boat tour about an hour away and had no issues with anything.  Returned the car after the boat tour and took the Budget/Avis shuttle back to the pier where we were dropped off right at the door that we should have exited the morning before!  Super easy!  On Maui we rented a car for the two days from Turo and they dropped it off across from the pier for us.  We parked overnight at the Maui Seaside Hotel for $26 and walked back to the ship.  It was a longer walk but flat and easy.  If you have any questions just ask while it is still fresh on my mind 🙂. I had some trouble finding information on POA planning prior to going.

"The cab ride was $20 to the airport. " so, the cab from pier to Kahului Airport was $20.00 not $45.00?

Appreciate all the great advice I've come upon here. I'm trying to plan out my itinerary for my POA cruise in 2024. I'm also seeing how difficult it is to get to and from the airport to rent a car for the day. Thinking of renting a car at AVIS in the morning (since they still have the shuttle to and from the port from what I can tell). Since the POA is docked for one night at the pier, how hard is it to drop the car off at night say 9 PM in the evening back at Avis at the Lanai airport and either getting the AVIS Shuttle (if it runs at that time) back to port where the POA resides (or obtaining a cab/Uber). Being a realist, I doubt the Lanai airport is that busy in the evening so transportation back to the ship is a concern. On one hand I am reading stories about how hard it is to get a cab. On the other hand, with the POA in town, I would think the cabs would be in this part of town (by the pier/airport). If anybody has any experience or insight (positive or negative) on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I too am trying to consider transportation for Maui.  You mentioned dropping off the car at the "LANAI AIRPORT", I thought the POA docks at Kahului near the Kahului Airport?

  14. Give me "Liberty," or.... give me the "Skyline."

Sailed on Carnival and Royal and know they advise you on your "sail & Sign" card a specific MDR.  What is NCL's procedure?  Are you able to choose either Liberty or Skyline any night or do they select your MDR?
