  1. HAL also attracts an older clientele, may want to consider them as well. Or do what we do and try to avoid sailings when school is out if it's possible.

Yes, we do that too... Holidays especially tend to have a lot of kids as younger parents have less vacation time so they take advantage of paid days off while the kids are out of school.

  2. You have pretty much described what Celebrity already represents. The lack of bells and whistles generally draws a more mature crowd. We rarely see children on the Celebrity cruises. Could count them on one hand.

Agreed. Which is why we are booking some cruises with Celebrity now.

However, I do agree with the OP. I would think this would be a good thing for RCI to at least try it on one of the older ships to see if they could also serve that segment. I would certainly book an adult only cruise with RCI or Celebrity in a heartbeat.

Even though Celebrity caters to a more adult crowd, they still allow kids. We have two long cruises booked with Celebrity and I would be very happy if I could count all the kids on one hand!! (Nothing against kids - been there, done it - I love my cell phone too but I put in the safe during the cruise) Sometimes it's just nice to get away....

  3. The lines I’m referring to are the likes of: Regent, Crystal, Oceania, Viking, Seaborn, Silversea, etc…

For some odd reason that question popped into my mind. I’m curious to hear from those who splurged on a luxury line after many cruises with RCCL. What was your impression? Was it worth it? What was it like? Was it a dream come true, a disaster, or a “Glad I did that but don’t need to do it again”?

I would consider it in the future for a special occasion.

    Thanks in advance, Dan

Thanks for asking this question Dan. I'm wondering the same thing. I would like to splurge at least once but would like some feedback as well. (If I was rolling in dough, I would just give it a try). LOL

  4. You create your own from a variety of ingredients and dressings

    Yum

And it's not a serve yourself buffet so you don't have to worry about people tainting the ingredients. You just point to what you want them to include (and how much) and they will toss it for you. If I'm not in the mood for a salad, I sometimes go up there just to get some prosciutto and feta (which they usually have)......

  5. We cruise almost every year in early December. As far as progress toward decorating, it has varied as to how early they start and how long it takes to finish. Always very nice. During several B2B's we've seen them start by simply putting out all the pointsetias and progressing day by day to a full blown beautifal display. Watched several huge gingerbread houses be slowly built over a week's time. Some ships huge and some ships modest. I suppose it depends on the talent on board at the time.

  6. You have to be solo in a suite to get 3 points per night.

OK, I hope I'm not "stirring the pot". Seems to me that logic would tell you that you should get 4 points.

    Logic:

2 people at 2 points each = 4 points for the cabin total

Therefore one person paying for 2 should get 4 (in my mind anyway - LOL)

(Although those with over 340 points only pay 1.5 the single amount)

  7. Maybe I missed it but I didn't see any D+ seating in theater.... I'm D+ and was only sailing in a JS.

Interesting. We were on the Oasis and although the seating said "Reserved for Pinnacle and Suite Guests", we were told by the person guarding the section that it also included Diamond+ folks. We've sailed twice on Oasis now and that's always been the case. No sign but D+ included. Theater, Aqua Theater etc...

I don't know if this is true on all ships.

  8. Welcome ? Please:

The person has been a member since 2010.

Other than tips and towel hogs, drink pkgs are a constant topic on CC.

Please indeed. The OP only has 321 posts during that time. Hardly a regular user. I thought these threads were supposed to be friendly. I think it was a legit question and besides, the threads are supposed to be fun and social.

  9. Sign in to your profile page. Change one thing. (like gender or birthday). Sign out. Sign back in. Change it back. Sign out. Sign back in. It should have the correct points.

Let us know if that works for you.

    :)

LOL. That worked. So I guess I don't get an extra crystal block......

I didn't even have to sign out. I just saved the "new" information and hit refresh on the browser.

    Thanks for the tip.

    Cheers

  10. We had 209 points prior to our Oasis cruise last month. We got our crystal block for hitting 210 points while on the cruise.

After the cruise, Crown & Anchor showed 0 points for a few weeks and now it's "updated" at 209 points. I wonder if we'll get another crystal block on our next cruise?? We'd be OK with that since we have no chance at making Pinnacle anyway... Kinda like "Whose Line Is It Anyway" where the points don't matter. LOL.

  11. Last year we went on Navigator of the Seas, and to our surprise there was a large ZUMBA group on it. It seemed like hundreds of Zumba instructors and fitness folks were on the pool deck each morning doing Zumba. My wife and I really enjoyed it and got into some of the public activities. This was the first time we noticed a large specialty group on a normal sailing. Are there any boards out there to see if an upcoming cruise has any particular theme / groups coming? Thanks.

We were on a cruise recently where we had a large group of quilters. It was crazy! Drunken elderly women partying to the wee hours of the morning keeping the rest of the cruisers awake. It must have been string break! Odd, but I heard they brought their brothers with them but I never saw them. The music was loud too as it was said they brought singers with them. They were so funny that they kept me in stitches. :')clear.png?emoji-tearsjoy-1678clear.png?emoji-tearsjoy-1678

  12. Long time RCI and now in recent years Celebrity cruiser. Here are the differences and my opinions of them in general.

    RCI:

    More families / kids

More attractions - rock climbing wall, Aqua theater, Ice rink, zip line, flow rider, etc.

    Overall better entertainment

    Livelier ship

    Celebrity:

Better food - Buffet in particular far better

    More of a "cruise" experience

    Better attention to customer

Better enforcement of adult ages is Solarium / chair hogging

Both are very good, but we have shifted more to Celebrity in recent years.

    Hope this helps.

Agree 100%. We just took a Celebrity cruise last year and booked two more. We also booked another RCI Oasis cruise. We like both but RCI kids ratio seems to be going up and we are getting older :-) so we are leaning more toward Celebrity now.
