  1. We are on Avalon Waterways April 13 Danube Dreams cruise. Our documents have been updated to indicate we will disembark in Passau not Deggendorf. We are planning on taking the train to Munich before flying out from Munich the following day.

Is this change probably set and O should go ahead and buy our train tix? Or should I just wait and buy them the day of travel?

And, does anyone know why our final port would have changed?

    Thank you

  2. I am trying to figure out how expensive am international call plan we will need for our avalon Danube cruise next month. We needs to be able to check in with our family.

Can anyone tell me how well the wifi works on Avalon Waterways ships? I'd like to be able to just use What's App for most of our conversations ....

    Thanks!

  3. CILCIANRQTS,

I was actually trying to avoid being too wordy, not rude in my question.🙂

In response to your question, I have added a lengthier explanation. I apologize in advance if you feel it still sounds like a rude American. That was not my intention. It may likely be an incorrect assumption, but I had thought I would be in a room filled mostly with Americans for the event I am inquiring about...

We were on an American cruise line cruise last summer and had packed clothes for what were advertised as Country club wear dinners to discover no one dressed up and our suitcases were half full of clothes for dinner we wore the first night only.

Not sure how where you're from dictates how you dress for various activities in other parts of the world...
  4. I live in a VERY casual town (Austin, TX) and actually do not own a pair of dressy slacks and my church/party/funeral dresses will most likely be too summery for April on the Danube.

I would rather not have to go buy clothes for this trip that I will probably not wear again and I am planning on bringing jeans and one skirt on our April Danube cruise unless I am advised otherwise.

Will it be acceptable to wear jeans to dinner most nights and the skirt to the welcome/goodbye dinners? I've tried searching posts but have not had good, recent results....

    Thanks!

  5. Thanks for replying!

Yes. Ours went to a smaller market than the Central Market but, while there, we tasted local cheeses and sausages. If the Avalon ship docks downtown the Central Market is a block away. If you are beginning or ending in Budapest and adding non-ship days, I also recommend the Jewish Heritage Tour we booked through Viator.

  6. Two questions about Avalon Danube cruise:

    1) what does a day look like?

Breakfas, Guided tour in the morning, lunch, free time, dinner, ?

    2) has anyone done the Budapest food and culture walking tour excursion? I was wondering if it was good enough to miss an afternoon of touring the city on our own (for first time visitors)?

    - and it leaves at 12:30 so I wasnt sure how that timing works with the rest of the day...

    Thanks!

  7. Jumping on Txsprmom's question...my husband and I are doing Avalon's 8 day Danube cruise starting in Budapest in April. I had just decided to choose the Cesky Krumlov excursion the day we dock in Linz, but now I'm second guessing again. I thought we cruised through the Wachau Valley the day the boat makes stops at Durnstein and Melk...but this sounds like that is not correct?

We tend to do things only once, so can someone inform me if in fact I should be choosing between seeing the Valley and Cesky Krumlov not CK or Linz?

Hope this makes sense! Thanks :)

  8. Thank you, kiwixmas!!!

    I'm very excited :):)

hi i would tell them in advance but on all food buffet (breakfast and lunch ) they put signs on side of the dish and have a letters which tells you what it contains . best though i found was enquire from chief what you can eat, i found that after a day they would see you coming and tell you what you could have , the waiter/ess were exllent after one day they knew you and I found i got really good service and advice most meals at night they would try to adapt for your diet but a couple of times they brought a total different meal. Also i found in the menu folder that everyone got each meal the last page was on what each meal contained regarding spices ,etc hope this helps cant fault avalon for there trying to adapt a meal .we are looking for another cruise with avalon they are so good !!!
  9. Thanks!

We arrive in Budapest at 8:40 am and have a transfer by Avalon from airport included. Im assuming we cannot get into our room that morning....

Has anyone else been in this situation? I want to do some sightseeing that day and am wondering how this will work since we arrive so early on embarkation day. One rep said we'd be taken to the ship and another said we would probably be taken to a meeting point for all guests to catch a shuttle to the ship that afternoon....

  10. Most weather websites seem to say low's in the 50's, highs in the 60's but if you look at last couple yrs the actual highs and lows in the cities along the Danube range from low 40's to low 70's....

I really want to pack light but not sure how to do it with such a wide range of temps...any suggestions?
