  1. We arrive in Budapest at 8:40 am and have a transfer by Avalon from airport included. Im assuming we cannot get into our room that morning....

Has anyone else been in this situation? I want to do some sightseeing that day and am wondering how this will work since we arrive so early on embarkation day. One rep said we'd be taken to the ship and another said we would probably be taken to a meeting point for all guests to catch a shuttle to the ship that afternoon....

  2. Wonderful! Thanks for replying!

    Hi GG,

    >.... the rep said I didn't need to request dairy-free or gluten free food....

Let Avalon know you need special attention. It helps them to prepare for you.

    Enjoy your cruise.

  3. So glad I just saw your post! I have several food allergies including dairy and I cannot eat gluten. We just booked a cruise on the Passion and the rep said I didn't need to request dairy-free or gluten free food but I might need to request soy milk or almond milk for my coffee. I was wondering if you can comment on this? Thanks!

Well be are back from this cruise it was great never been on river cruise before and the staff were beyond my expectations . after one day on board they knew what you liked ( being on gluten free diet ) chief even made pasta for me and brought to me himself very tasty. pity we have to travel so far to get to europe as we would be booking another cruise .
  4. Hi,

Can anyone who has cruised with Avalon tell me how well they actually manage food allergies? I noticed they have vegan options for every meal and was told GF would be available, also. I desperately need coffee on a daily basis and was also curious if anyone knows if I need to make a special request for soy or almond milk or if they will have it automatically?

    Thanks!

  5. Great! Thanks for the info!

You don't need hiking boots, for sure. Something with some padding in the sole is optimal as stones can be uncomfortable after a while. Sturdy, meaning it will give some support on uneven ground.

How much padding and support you need depends on how tough your feet are and how much walking you do on a normal basis. Chris often walks around in flats on low-mileage days, but for longer distance days she wears a pair of light Skechers or Puma sneakers.

  6. Thanks! Great suggestions for rain!

What time of year will you be traveling, and do you have any foot concerns? I don't wear sneakers except when exercising - for Europe in the cooler months (my normal travel) I prefer a goretex walking shoe (more ankle support than a regular running shoe type sneaker - goretex is great for those rainy days we always get) In the summer, I tend to wear dansko walking sandals with adjustable laces and a very thick sole. I also have some nice soft leather boots (pack much easier than a stiff leather boot) from Keen with a thick sole - I've sprayed silicone water-resistant spray and added my own insoles and they're great for walking in rainy/wet days too....
  7. Hi, I have several food allergies, including dairy protein, but cannot drink my 'required' ;)daily coffee black. Does anyone know if Avalon will follow through on a request to have almond or soy milk on board? If so, what department should I make sure I communicate with before leaving for the cruise?

    Thanks!
