  1. I put a different spin on it.

Somebody who pays full price should get preference on seating times compared to somebody who purchases a single "booking" at a reduced price.

But if you are buying a package you are being rewarded for multiple bookings with preferential rates. This does not make your booking inferior to somebody who has only purchased one reservation.

  2. We are in port for a day and a bit in May on the Celebrity Silhouette.

On a previous cruise 6 years ago we stopped off at Copenhagen and it berthed at Langeline. We did our own thing and got a taxi to centre but strolled back and admired the views.

However, I note that our upcoming cruise is berthing at 332 Oceankaj. Looking at google maps this is not walkable, it is at least 4 miles to centre.

I calculate that it is a 2 mile walk just to get out of the dock complex.

So the question is do either the port or Celebrity provide a (free) shuttle to the dock exit? Or indeed do Celebrity run a shuttle to near the centre?.

  3. Do Celebrity not do downloadable PDF Port Guides anymore?

I am looking for the port guides on the Baltic Cruise, these are the 4 page guides they leave in your cabin each day.

Just want to do a bit of pre planning and they normally state the shuttle arrangements etc.

Have always downloaded in the past but cannot find them!

  4. I know this topic has been done to death.

Sailing the Silhouette for 14 days in Baltic in May, I cannot believe the cost of the wifi package which is £226 (290USD) unlimited for one device.

We sailed with Celebrity in the Med 2 years ago and just checked what we paid for the same package and it was £125 (160USD). This is nearly 100% increase when we all know that communication costs are falling.

I am a senior who will take an ipad for "housekeeping" purposes i.e., emails, bank transfers and sending the odd photo back home to the kids, barely 10 mins a day, probably 2 hours max for the whole cruise. This works out at circa £115 per hour (145 USD)  :classic_ohmy::classic_ohmy:

I do not want to spend precious shore time seeking free internet so what are my options? Can I pay as I go on board?

They will accommodate you please don't worry about it.  If you do not get assigned to SD before you get on the ship they will take care of you once you board and talk to the dining staff.  Go to the dining room as soon as you get on the ship.  They have changed my dining many times and I have never had any problems.

    thanks !

Since you know about time differences on your next sailing, you can make reservations in the MDR to accommodate accordingly. First night and second night, I would recommend that you make them 30 minutes before you want to eat because of the mad rush, usually IME.

    bon voyage

But that is the problem and as I said at the beginning of the thread, Select dining is full and I have been allocated a fixed time of 2045 each evening. Well that is how it stands at present!

If you can’t change, will a snack around 5:00 work, I know that’s what mum does if she has to eat late and it works great for her.

The added problem I have is the constant time changes. So we have a 14 day cruise from UK to Baltic and in relatively quick succession we will be +1, +2 and +3 for St P in Russia, back down to +2, +1 and 0.

We have done this cruise before and I remember in St Petersburg we had to be out for 0700 for the start of tours. This meant getting up at 0500 for breakfast and getting ready, but this was 0200 UK time which our bodies were used to a few days prior!

Now whilst our minds can adjust to this my sugar levels cannot and that is why I would like to constantly vary our evening meal times to compensate.

I am sure as everyone says that my concerns are unfounded and speaking to Celebrity again about this will get it sorted. I looked at the special needs forms as suggested but this seems geared to those with mobility issues.

    Thanks again for the comments

  8. I am type 2 and my worry is not about menus.

I have today booked a cruise on Silhouette for May this year ex Southampton. The cruise is virtually full and I got the last C2 concierge cabin left. We booked direct with Celebrity and was told that Select dining was not an option as it was oversubscribed and we were given a fixed time of 2045.

Now whilst eating that late does not in any way put me in danger it will not do my sugar levels much good either. My routine would see me eating circa 1930.

I accept the MDR is not the only venue but it is part of the cruise experience.

Does anybody know whether they would normally take pity on a diabetic and allow Select dining?

  9. We were on Reflection 25th April. The day before Bodrum I was at the tour booking desk for something else but asked about the museum because I tad seen this thread before we sailed.

The girl told me that they knew the museum was closed on a Monday but they were still selling the tour to visit. She assumed it was open for privately arranged tours but not for individuals just turning up.

  10. okay have spoken with Celebrity again and they confirm what has been mentioned on this thread i.e., you can only purchase 2 packages, unlimited daily or unlimited for the cruise duration. You cannot purchase a set number of minutes or purchase by the minute.

They also said that people who have already purchased internet packages under the old scheme will be emailed, have the package cancelled and money refunded. This seems harsh?

This is Celebrity UK so not sure on rules for elsewhere. It might also vary by ship, this info relates to Reflection.

  11. The older packages are not "sold out" but they are not available any more. With the new high speed internet they are re-pricing the whole deal, and yes, as of now, there is only either the unlimited or a one-day package for sale. But this is a moving target and it could change again.

Presumably though there must still be the option of buying by the minute based on usage?

I hope I will not be held to ransom i.e., "you want to use the internet on two separate days sir, that will be £204 sir" I thought Xcelerate was referring to the speed not the cost!

  12. EU roaming is now cheaper. Tether from your phone - we did this last year and only cost 15 euro. The nature of that cruise if that you will have access quite a lot of the time.

That was my original option but I am with O2 and T&C state you cannot tether outside UK.

  13. We are sailing Reflection 25th April out of Rome.

I will be taking IPAD and wanted to pre purchase minutes. I checked a few weeks ago and there were a number of packages available to purchase online i.e., daily packages, cruise duration packages or set number of minutes packages.

I was going to purchase 90 mins at circa 40UK£.

I went online this morning and logged into my cruise but the only package available was unlimited at 210UK£!!! Wow!!

As I don't want to pay that I rang UK Celebrity and asked to purchase, but they could only offer that 210UK£ package. I asked what had happened to the other packages and they said they had been sold out.

How can you sell out of internet? Which makes me think they have withdrawn to force you into the higher value packages.

I know that you can buy these things on-board but the reason for doing it online is to have it pre-set in the stateroom.

    Anybody facing the same problem?

  14. It is not a general strike?

The designation "general" does not mean this. 1st May is labour day in Italy, it is a national holiday.

My understanding of national holidays is that some things will be open and some wont, you will need to check websites of where you want to go.

Transport would probably be more like a Sunday timetable.

    Definitely no strike!

  15. Been to Europe many times.

Have an upcoming Greece and Italy cruise in June. Wouldn't hesitate to go to most of Europe right now, although admittedly I'm not crazy about the fact that my cruise starts in Istanbul. I've already been - and with the way things are at the moment - I'd prefer if it started somewhere else. However I'm not planning on cancelling - at least, not now.

As I write this I'm in my 40s - although I won't be able to say that tomorrow:D

    Mike

Mike, I see you are Chicago based.

I have just read that there have been 135 fatal shootings in the first 3 months of this year in Chicago.

Europe is not the only hotspot?
