  1. AHOY SHIPMATE,

HI MOJO,.......WE ALL AGREE It is very confusing, and I believe intentionally

done so. Military discount is less than 50 bucks, far less that the DELTA discount. I don't know about the other airlines, Most of them have recip. with Carnival employees. win some-lose some

  2. How does one call the upsell department?

We've been booking ES since it appeared and usually end up booking it (I think there were three or four cruises where we were too late). We only book at a rate we're comfortable paying and if the drops happen, they happen.

With our latest booking, we are glad to be ES, but we are probably going to look at other rates or wait 'til the last minute from now on. We initially booked 4Js for $1166--thanks to

ES and some fabulous GTY sales, we are now in GTY balconies for $1004 and have $120 in OBC. Carnival let us price match to the 30 hour sale last week as long as we gave up our cabins, so we did it. However, we have had a time getting price drops. As sales would change, I'd submit a price drop form at 12:02 am and receive a denial by 12:05. I'd always find myself on the phone with a CSR making the correction because the drop was indeed valid. Now, the agents can no longer adjust the price (as of October 1) and ES customers will be left fighting with the dept. that handles the drops via email. We also discovered that it is near impossible to "fight" denials with screenshots, at least as of late. My problems with the form and the department are not user error--I've been booking ES since it came out and used it for a hefty number of cruises, including several cabins for my wedding.

    AHOY SHIPMATE,

ONE DAY I was frustrated and called the booking number then asked for the UP SELL person who had called me previously and was connected. Once I called CUSTOMER SERVICE and eventually got connected. It has to be close to sailing date or they wont have anything to offer. Good Luck.

  3. AHOY SHIPMATES,

I used to think that I was fairly literate, but Carnival has led me to re-evaluate. I have averaged a 5 day cruise each month for the past 15 months on the Fascination /jax fla/about 15 min from my home . I qualify for sr. citizen, Military, past cruiser(platinum) and Fla resident., and book at the cheapest rate when I book which is anywhere from 8 months to 6 days early.

I then check prices DAILY and have only qualified for ONE price reduction and NO OBC's according to the lovely voiced ladies in their phone pools.....Booking MILITARY is probably the worst overall but it does allow cancellation at no cost. I have found that booking the cheapest OV and letting them choose my cabin has worked out best. I call the "UP SELL"

dept . about a week before sailing and end up with a nice balcony for a very GOOD price regardless of the posted prices.

  4. AHOY SHIPMATES,

I think most of the cruiselines have gone to the on line form. I receive mine from Carnival on the second day after the cruise. and it is thorough with plenty of space to write comments . They are read and fwded back to the ship. I have had Guest relations Manager thank me for comments made about a previous cruise when I return to the ship for another cruise.

If something "special", good or bad occurs, I drop a note to the front desk at the time and have had feedback immediately from the departments involved. It is refreshing to know that someone is listening. In this very competitive business they are trying to please.

    SEA YOU AT SEA.

  5. AHOY SHIPMATE,

CONGRATULATIONS. You are getting an early start You will stay busy with paperwork and a lot of MISinformation between now and Sailing. Get on the Roll call for the cruise on both Cruise critic and on the HAL website. Call the World Cruise desk at HAL and become FRIENDS with those people. Double verify info you receive from unknown well meaning people. SHOTS AND VISAS

can be the most confusing. Use a Passport/visa co. It is worth the $$. but shop around for the best one. HAL used to use ZAIER ? but they have changed their name . ( still good tho. )

One could write a book just on how to prepare for a World Cruise. We have done 5 in 15 yrs and no two are the same. (in prep). Take it slow but keep active.

  6. AHOY SHIPMATES,

If it aint really broke don't fix it. I've cruised a few times on various Lines and only once in over 1200 days at sea received a bill that wasn't mine. I noticed it the last day of cruise and showed the front desk. The signature wasn't mine and they were very nice about adjusting it . accidents happen.

What I like best about using the Credit Card is that sometimes you don't actually pay the bill for 2-3 months after the cruise depending on the time of month you cruised and date your CC co. bills you.

Don't create extra book keeping and getting extra people involved is not a good idea.

Happy sailing Sea you at sea some day.

  7. Personally I think people on here who want to list each and every one of the 1,345 cruises they've been on, along with their triple diamond platinum ytterbium status.... to be far more wanky than someone wearing their card on a lanyard around their neck for convenience.

    Each to their own though.

    AHOY SHIPMATE,

I'm surprised that your post wasn't in GREEN, but thats your choice.

Iv'e been fortunate to have been able to do a lot of cruising around the world several times and continue to meet new interesting people because they have read my profile and either were on the same cruise or want to do a similar cruise and have questions that I can answer for them.

CRUISE CRITIC is a great forum to accomplish this. Please feel free to reread my profile as often as you like. Have a nice day.

  8. I have been on 16 Royal Caribbean cruises and have never seen them given out free. I have seen them for sale in the gift shop.

    AHOY SHIPMATES.

On ALL CARNIVAL ships the CASINO slots tech. and the Future Cruise Consultants have them. Other Carnival owned ships have them in the Casino also.

  9. AHOY SHIPMATES,

THEY ARE FREE, I always ask for 2. Never use one.. They can be useful around the house or give them to kids when visiting.

Door key/Sign n sail card is kept in pocket in a money clip with cash for the CASINO

  10. Hi,

How did you like the Ryndam? We are looking at booking this week for March. Have they added the Dive In on the Lido?

    Thanks

    AHOY SHIPMATES,

IMHO the smaller ships like Ryndam are preferable to the monsters they are building these days. It's far from new but we've never had any problems.

I called HAL this morning and they DO NOT have anyone there today who could answer my question. HAL is selling the ship next year and are not doing any upgrades on it or the Statendam.

Sorry, I usually have the answers.

  11. AHOY SHIPMATES,

HAL is for older people but the STAFF is so friendly that it is always a pleasant trip. Medium price, average food but Very slow service.

CARNIVAL is LEAST expensive, Great STAFF, good food, good service, much younger passengers, average entertainment, and plenty of things to do.

HAL for long cruises.......Carnival for shorter ones.

PERSONAL OPINION....I wouldn't go on RCL again if they paid me.
