  1. We actually boarded a cruise in September and had to get off before sailing.  So ours was not a "cancelled" cruise, the insurance coverage was "trip interruption".  Since we had boarded and "started" the cruise, I thought we might get the refundable OBC.  But, no, we did not.  We just got a "bill" from the medical department.  I wish we had ordered wine with lunch!

  2. I'm sure this has been addressed, but please enlighten me.  Going on a 10 day cruise out of Sydney.  There are no beverage packages, other than Premier,  nor is there option to purchase water on this cruise.  What's the deal in Australia?

    What ship are you on?

Recently there has been an additional discount for the loss of the (free) Platinum/Elite minutes if you purchase the unlimited once onboard.

$129 is still a great deal for 28 days though.

ColoCruiser, we are on the 28 day LAX-SYD on the Ruby.

We are looking at two sailings that are one day apart so both are at a good time and both itineraries look good.  One is on Ruby and the other is on Golden.  We’ve only done two Princess cruises both on the Island Princess so both ships are unknown to us and we don’t know how to pick between them.

We would appreciate hearing observations on how these ships differ and the pros and cons of each.  In particular, info on where there’s ballroom dancing and how much dancing is available on each ship will be great to get.

Many thx in advance for sharing your thoughts!

We chose the Ruby because of the slight difference in itineraries.  We'd rather go to Kauai than Hilo and since we are doing the cruise to Sydney, the Ruby has more time in NZ.  My sister chose the Golden on price.  Both ships have advantages.

  5. I had a similar situation.  I had a cruise that I had to cancel due to illness.  I had another cruise booked and I was going to use the cruise "credits" to pay for the other cruise.  Good thing I investigated.  Had I done so, and then had to cancel, EVEN THOUGH I had insured the second cruise, I would not have received anything back.  So I paid for the second cruise and fortunately got $$ back for the first cruise and didn't have to deal with the credits.  I first learned about this here on CC......saved me from an expensive lesson.

I think the concept of "brick and mortar" is no longer the same.

I use a real travel agent who lives across the country. She works from her house which allows her to work 7 days a week and even evenings. I call her or email her to book cruises. I have a personal relationship with her. She knows who I am when I call. I consider this the new brick and mortar. I don't use a website when I book.

Don't be afraid of those who work from home. My agent would run laps around our local agencies in volume (run laps over a lot of the large agencies also). The amount of cruises she alone books amazes me.

Even when I first started booking cruises many moons ago - I booked locally but never went there. I called and emailed her. Now I just use a specialist who works in another state.

I would never book direct because I like her prices better, I like that she has actually been on all the ships out there and has traveled extensively. You can't say that about booking direct. Many of those people have never cruised or traveled extensively. I also like that if I say "I am interested in this" - she can even offer another line that may have much better savings. She also offers an amazing insurance policy that I can book at final payment and cover pre-existing conditions. That is difficult to come by with out paying an arm and a leg.

Hi Coral....I'm quite sure we have the same agent.  You said it all.  Bottom line, no matter what price find out there, she is consistently 10% lower.  I usually communicate by email, but when I call, she and her associate know me by my first name.  Other "bene's" often show up.  Saves us a ton.

We were a little unhappy with CC dining last fall on the CB.   Every evening CC was full and several times we had to go back to the bar and wait.    The head waiter said they added more CC mini's - guess Princess thinks it is profitable for them.   They added a couple more tables on the other side of the aisle - in the MDR section.   It was busy every evening and the service slipped because they were rushing around.   We book full suites but after that experience, not sure I would go with CC mini's - would not be worth the extra cost.

This would make me extremely unhappy, since that is exactly the reason we would splurge for CC.  I am willing to pay the extra to be able to truly do anytime dining with the same waiters.
